Think we all do love the YA books and put some of our own fantasies in it :-)

message 562: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (pocketmermaid) | 38 comments Hi, I'm Jenna and I'm a 28 year old YA enthusiast. My favorite sub-genre is fairy tale retellings. I am still learning my way around Goodreads . . .

message 563: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Welcome Jenna! I adore fairytale retellings. My favorite right now is Wildwood Dancing (Wildwood, #1) by Juliet Marillier .

Jenna (pocketmermaid) | 38 comments Becca wrote: "Welcome Jenna! I adore fairytale retellings. My favorite right now is Wildwood Dancing (Wildwood, #1) by Juliet Marillier."

I've never heard of it! I've added it to my TBR. I see it's a retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princess," which is a fairy tale that doesn't get retold enough. I read Jessica Day George's retelling
Princess of the Midnight Ball and adored it.

message 565: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments It's actually a retelling of two different fairytales, but I'll let you discover the second for yourself. It's a really beautiful story. Well written and beautifully so.

message 566: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Welcome to the group Jenna, Lindsey, Stacey, and Ashley! Whew that's quite the roll call!

message 570: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Yay! I'm so excited for you Jenna! It is one of my favorite stories EVER.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Wow this is a really long post so I don't think I'm going to read it all.

My name is Cassi, just turned 25 a week or so ago. I'm from Kentucky (Southeastern, borderline Appalachian region). I work for Girl Scouts (professionally, not volunteering). I read YA, fantasy, and a little bit of sci-fi (and occasionally books that are none of the above but thats rare).

Random bits about myself: I hike, rock climb, cave, camp. I like to knit, scrapbook, do crafty-stuff. I garden. I lived in Switzerland volunteering at a Girl Scout world center for 3 months. I'm obsessed with my dog. I do both writing and photography. I have too many hobbies that I cannot possibly keep up with them all.

message 572: by Alan (new)

Alan (coachmt) | 72 comments Welcome Cassi... no worries about reading the thread... it's mostly just Team This, Team That, blah blah ; )

*checks for Peep and runs and hides*

message 573: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ha Alan! I know that Peep is scary isn't she? Welcome welcome Cassi! Switzerland sound like fun, reminds me of Sound of Music. "The Hills are Alive!" Wow. I had too much caffine today, sorry! p.s. I heart the Girl Scouts, I was a GS through 10th grade (geek alert) and worked at a GS camp during college.

message 574: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Did I step into the Twilight Zone or something? Since when am I the bad guy? I show nothing but love!

Don't listen to them Cassi, you'll see the truth soon enough. There are other members to watch out for. I'm not going to name names but at least one of them posted directly above me.

Welcome to the group Cassi :)

message 575: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments rofl@Peep! Welcome Cassi. You'll love it here.

message 576: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Welcome Jenna! I love fairy tale retellings too. My favorites are Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast, Ella Enchanted and The Goose Girl.

Welcome Cassi! I love YA and fantasy as well. :)

Hey, I resemble that remark!

message 578: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Heidi, what do you mean you resemble that remark? You look like that remark? :P

message 579: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Haven't you heard that before Chachic? Perhaps my lame humor does not translate in the Philippines. That's probably a good thing!

message 580: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Hahaha no, I've never heard it before! The humor probably got lost in translation.

message 581: by Heidi (new)

Heidi As I said Chachic, it is LAME humor, so no loss there :)

message 583: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) That was totally lame Heidi, and I totally got the joke. I don't know what that says about me - especially if I admit to laughing at it.

And thanks Alan!!

message 584: by Mirza (new)

Mirza (mirzaarhasan) I just joined 5 minutes before ... and i'm really glad that i'm not the only adult who is still young at heart.
I'm 24, female, and a college student, obsessed with reading.
I have my finals tomorrow and I'm still here ... !!

message 585: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Welcome Mirza! Good luck on your finals :)

message 589: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I've read Evening Class. I am a big Binchy fan :)

message 590: by Mirza (new)

Mirza (mirzaarhasan) Its great fun ... light chick-lits perfect for the summer.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi I actually started working for Girl Scouts at camp during college. I stayed in as a girl til the end of 6th grade when my troop broke up (and I did NOT want this to happen) but rejoined & worked at my childhood camp during college. Then someone mentioned World Centers and well...there was no stopping me then. I actually wish I'd been able to stay in longer becase Wider Ops (now Destinations) sound way awesome to me.

Hello to Mirza & Callie! Glad we could all introduce ourselves.

message 592: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi - I still hum GS camp songs from time to time. Actually my co-workers name is Joe and I always sing him a GS song about a Joe who works in a button factory and he just looks at me like I am insane (which I am :)

message 593: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Welcome Mirza and Callie!

message 594: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Welcome Nubes! Come and have some fun.

Those are some of my favorites too! Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast was actually the first retelling I ever read, way back when I actually was a YA! Aww, memories. I loved McKinley so much that I read Deerskin right after, which wasn't the most age-appropriate read for me ... but I survived it. ;)

Anybody know any good sites for free ebooks please?

message 598: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Mizra what reader do you usually use for ebooks? I get email updates from http://booksontheknob.blogspot.com/

She does a pretty good job at posting free books. I also subscribe to the the free AND bargain book threads over at the kindle boards.

message 599: by Mirza (new)
