Don't feel pressured about reviews. They don't have to be long, or examine all aspects of the poetry. You could look at a theme, diction, technique, imagery, form, word choice, or emotional effect. Or pick a poem you liked and talk about that. I don't care. But if something does or doesn't appeal to you, we'd be glad to know why (as far as you can tell).

Probably I don't have to say this, but try to be balanced in reviews. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's without worth. I can't imagine spending a day sitting around reading Gerald Manley Hopkins, but, well, no reflection on him. Still, don't dress up your reaction. If someone's poetry doesn't work for you, then so be it. You don't have to feel pressured to be insincere because so-and-so is the editor of Mega Poemetry Annual and you've been longing to have a piece accepted there. If you're uncomfortable, remove the book from your list.

Go forth and prosper.

Hi Steve,
This group is for books you read (or re-read) in 2010, so if the review is already up, it shouldn't be posted here. The group aims to get folks out to read new books. BUT if you re-read a book and want to revisit it, that's fine. I'm sure most of us read our favorite poetry books over and over again.
Happy New Year!
