Great! Thank you for the suggestion. I'll have to check it out!

Mark Hmm..what's your favorite genre, Suzanne?

I always recommend The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. It's long though. There's also The Thirteenth Tale by Diane I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

More serious reads...The Reader, Song of Solomon.

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments What did you think of 'The Help', Mark? I also read the book in August! I loved it and the movie was great too :)

message 54: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments How is your reading going? I've been reading One Day for what feels like forever now! It's taking me so long to get through it...

message 55: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments I guess it didn't take you One Day to read :( haha!!!! I'm reading Take Me There and it's so insanely juvenile, but a quick read!

Mark Kristin wrote: "What did you think of 'The Help', Mark? I also read the book in August! I loved it and the movie was great too :)"

Kristin, sorry I didn't reply earlier. I really liked this book and the movie. It's not too often that you get really good books like this. The characters were great, the plot was new--not something rehashed.

I read it over a couple of days and I stayed up late reading it too. I remember laughing out loud in bed in some of the parts.

I really liked the actors that were cast in the book. I was expecting someone funnier for Minnie and for her to have a larger role in the movie. But overall, I still liked it.

message 57: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments It's true! Such a different story! I'm glad I picked it up :)

message 58: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments How's the reading going, bookworms?? I think I might get to 40! I have to get a move on a bit :-o

message 59: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments I'm about to finish another book tonight. I'm trying to catch up with my challenge! :)

message 60: by Mark (new)

Mark Hi, Kristin. I'm definitely not meeting the goal this year. We Abuilt and moved in to a new place this year, which has taken up so much time. But I'm almost to the point of being settled...SO ready to relax with a book!

message 61: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Wow! Good luck with everything :) Sounds like a busy year! I have been traveling lots for work which has given me some additional reading time :)

message 62: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Aww, I don't think we met our goal of 40 books this year! :( How about we shoot for 35 in 2012??

message 63: by Mark (last edited Jan 07, 2012 06:49AM) (new)

Mark Happy New Year! 35 sounds like a good number. I'm already off to a good start. I just finished reading The Sense of an Ending this morning. It had an unresolved and surprise ending. It's a short read. If you get a chance to read it, let me know. I'd like to talk about the ending with someone.

message 64: by Mark (new)

Mark Just finished Oliver Twist. I was surprised at how good it was. I expected it to be a more juvenile read, but it wasn't. Among the books I want to read this year, I'm trying to read about 10 or 11 of the Dickens novels that I've always wanted to read. So one down!

I see you're reading If There Be Thorns. I really wouldn't mind reading that series again, I just have so many other things I want to read too. Since I've already read them, they're on the back-burner. :(

message 65: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Great idea, Mark! I remember reading Great Expectations back in high school - I hear the movie is coming out in 2012!

If There Be Thorns is so crazy, but not as crazy as the first two! I can't seem to put these books down :-o

message 66: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Kristin,

It looks like you are doing great so far with your 2012 book challenge! When do you typically read? I usually read in the evenings after I wash the dinner dishes and before bed. :-P At my previous job, I was able to read during my lunch break because I had an hour. Now I only have a half hour so I'm not able to bring a book with me to work. :-/

message 67: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments During the week, I usually read on the train, during my lunch break at work, and during commercials when I watch my shows at night :) On the weekends, I'll read right when I wake up and stay in bed for an hour or two with a cup of tea :)

message 68: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments So, I'm thinking of reading something Titanic-related around April 15th. I've already read Fateful last year & now I'm thinking of possibly The Dressmaker: A Novel? :)

message 69: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Ooo sounds AWESOME! I can't wait to see the movie in IMAX haha

message 70: by Mark (new)

Mark I'm supposed to go see it this weekend. I have to admit I've never been able to sit through the whole thing. I might finally have to. :)

message 71: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments At this rate I might not be able to get to a Titanic book by April 15th. It's taking me FOREVER to get through the Lying Games #3. Definitely not the best book in the series. Afterward I'll probably read the 2nd Hunger Games book because my co-worker is loaning it to me on Kindle.

message 72: by Mark (new)

Mark So what would you rate the Hunger Games on a scale from 1-10? I'm debating whether I should get into them or not.

message 73: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments I avoided the Hunger Games for a long time because I just didn't think it was my "thing." I might have also been judging the book by its cover a little bit. Although I'm still not exactly sure it's my thing, I gave the 1st book 4 stars. Maybe a 6/10 though. I'll finish the series.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't tried it yet. My son and grandson finished all three.(:

message 75: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Mark, out of the 50 books I read in 2010, the first Hunger Games book was my favorite :)
The series was great, and the movie adaptation was amazing!

message 76: by Mark (new)

Mark Thanks for the feedback. I might pick it up once I'm done with some books on my list.

message 77: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Kristin,

Are you going to give 50 Shades of Grey a try? I've been debating because I heard it's pretty raunchy but everyone on my FB keeps saying good things!

message 78: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Yes, I am going to read it! Nicole says it gets better and less raunchy as the trilogy goes on lol!

message 79: by Kelsie (last edited Sep 05, 2012 09:59AM) (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments My fiance will be away this weekend, so that will probably allow me to catch up on my reading! Goodreads is telling me I'm 2 books behind on my challenge. Yikes!

message 80: by Mark (last edited Sep 05, 2012 10:02AM) (new)

Mark I'm way behind schedule. I don't think I'm going to be anywhere near my goal this year. I've been busy with work and studying for weeks to get a couple of certifications. If I pass, I can get back to reading soon after. If not...additional studying.

Kelsie, if you are 2 books behind, I must be like 5 behind lol!!

Moving made me fall behind :( I was on 1 book for a month!!

message 82: by Kelsie (last edited Sep 06, 2012 05:39AM) (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments I'm sure that when we finally get a house, I will fall really behind in my reading for awhile. :( Jeff is going away on a camping trip/bachelor party for his friend, so I'll have nothing else to do but read! :-P

message 83: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Kelsie- congrats on reaching the goal!!! I think I'll make it to 30!

message 84: by Kelsie (last edited Dec 06, 2012 01:14PM) (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Thanks, Kristin! :)

I hope you reach 30! It's been a busy year for us!!

message 85: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Kristin, when should we do our end of year book meme on LJ?

message 86: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Maybe last weekend of December !! Can't wait :)

message 87: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments 5 books short :(

Want to keep the goal at 35 for 2013?

Can't believe we've been doing this challenge for a few years :-D

message 88: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments I'm good with keeping the goal at 35! I'll see what I can do!

message 89: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments I edited our topic's title ;)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Aww, love it! Thanks!

message 91: by Mark (new)

Mark Happy New Year, ladies!

I did not do well in 2012, but I'm good with keeping the goal 35 for 2013. I'm already deep into three books, which I should finish soon. So I may reach 35 this year.

Happy reading!

message 92: by Mark (last edited Jan 09, 2013 09:58AM) (new)

Mark Did either of you ever read Danielle Trussoni's Angelology? It's a pretty good read and the sequel is coming out in March.

If you find yourself not sure what to read, I recommend this one. It starts out slow, but it picks up and made me want to go back and reread the beginning a little closer.

message 93: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Happy New Year!

No, I have not read Angelology! Sounds very interesting and different from anything I've ever read! I like that!

I really have to read 35+ books each year...I have 130 books on my bookshelves TO READ!!!!

message 94: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Hey Mark, I haven't read that either. I will have to check it out.

message 95: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments Kristin, have you been entering any Goodreads giveaways lately? I used to be so lucky with them... I think I won 6 books total... but I haven't won anything in 2 years! I'm always entering too. Maybe there is a limit of how many times you can win? Haha.

message 96: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments No, I haven't entered any of the giveaways lately! I took a peek a few weeks ago but didn't see anything that I definitely wanted to read!

I have 120+ books to read, so I've been trying not to collect anymore books right now haha!

message 97: by Mark (new)

Mark I'm in the same boat, Kristin. Recently, I had about 4 books going. I always used to strictly be a one-book-at-a-time reader, but I've been having to read things for a class I'm taking, plus reading for leisure, then when I'm on the elliptical machine when I want something not requiring too much mental effort, etc.... So I'll be finishing a couple more in the next few days, hopefully.

I'm finally getting to the end of A Tale of Two Cities. I always like the way Dickens ties everything up at the end. Although, when you're reading all those threads along the way, you're wondering why it's in there. Anyhow, I have three chapters left, but I can already guess how it's going to end. Have either of you read it?

message 98: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (happygolucky88) | 212 comments Wow, that's great, Mark! I tend to read 2 books at a time - usually one novel and either a Chicken Soup book or a book about a city haha. I am in the middle of a book about the Space Needle in Seattle. I started in November and I read a little here and there when I have a chance.

I had to read A Tale of Two Cities in high school as SUMMER reading :( I didn't enjoy it- I felt like it was spoiling my summer at the time haha.

message 99: by Kelsie (new)

Kelsie (gar0190) | 171 comments I have never read A Tale of Two Cities. Also, I tend to read 2 books at a time - a book and an audio book for the car.

message 100: by Mark (last edited Feb 20, 2013 10:09AM) (new)

Mark Kristin: I would have hated it too. :) It's only been recently that I got interested in him.

Kelsie: I just started listening to audio books in the car also. I'm in the car at least an hour for my commute, so it entertains me.

Would either of you be interested in reading something together and chatting about it on here?
