Not sure where you live, but around here there are a lot of national parks and other tourist type places. They hire huge numbers for the summer months. Might be somewhere to try. Good luck!
You are definitely not alone. I've been searching for a job ever since I graduated last December. I took a crappy job that I hated and then I quit because I'm not about to go through life being THAT miserable. I'm fine with not liking my job but the extent of how miserable I was concerned me. So..I feel ya.
I've been finding more internships than I have been finding suitable jobs. You could try looking into some of those. Some of them are paid depending on the field. Also, use your resources and contacts! Email those professors and family friends. Chances are that they have contacts. Unfortunately, it seems that everybody that my contacts know do things that I have no interest in. lol
Good luck!!

What are some of the places you guys search for jobs? Industry specific boards? Monster? Newspaper?
i already work at a warehouse, been there for 5 years its getting old though, i need something new
I know I have posted this somewhere else, but not sure where, so I will repeat. My work often hires from a business/accounting group at 2 certain schools, either for the internships or for full time work. So, if there is some type of club at your school related to what you want to do when you grow up, join it. There are ties to people that hire in that field.

I did just apply for a summer work program at my school. If I get it, it will pay me $8,000 for the summer :)
I decided to start another blog..chronicling my days of unemployment and job searching!

The main thing is try to relax! I know it is hard, but the more you stress about it, the worse it is going to be. I like the honesty part best, but I don't know what type of interviewer he/she will be. Good Luck!

Take a little bit of time before the interview to think of possible interview questions that could be asked. Think about your strengths and your weaknesses. Also take a little bit of time to learn about the Y (background info) as well as think of a few questions pertaining to the job. I've heard from many hiring managers that they like when a prospective employee asks intelligent, relevant questions because it shows that they are truly interested. And like Tami said, try and relax! Nerves will show! Fake some confidence, girl! I'm not all about faking how you are feeling but in some instances you need to! :)
Good luck!!!

:( Sorry to hear that it didn't go as well as planned. Although, I thought I sucked at a few of the questions on my interview for a manager position and apparently I impressed them. So, it probably wasn't AS bad as you think it went. Did he say he would call you back?
Also, it sounds as though you might be great in a nursery school type setting. When I was in high school they had this really nice preschool that was infants up to like 4 year old kids and you didn't have to have a degree for it or anything. The people with the younger kids didn't have to plan as much activity to engage the kid as the ones with the 2-4 year old kids. Maybe something like that? I'm a whiz at searching for jobs (clearly not for myself though lol..I've found everyone else jobs) so I'd be happy to help.
Also, if you just want to get a babysitting job in the meantime, I would ask around your church or go to care.com & sittercity.com. My sister has been using those sites for the past 4 years and she gets calls all the time! And all of the people are really normal..not like creepy weirdos.

Awesome!! Just think of the Y as a practice run. This is the real deal! You will be fine!

For anyone in the Boston area, check out this job with a publishing company. I've worked with them before (ie them sending me books) and they are real nice and professional.
It's for an assistant to the director:

If anybody has questions about AmeriCorps, just ask (PMs are fine so we don't flood the board, unless a lot of people ask questions, then I'd likely make a single topic where we could discuss it).

My grandfather always said "I'd rather get a good nights sleep in a small house than no sleep in a big house".

Wow Jessica!! I would rather be in that situation than constantly worried my family is going to have a foreclosure and be thrown out of their house. Maybe my mom would get some sense....eventually....

I know a lot of people these days are living beyond their means and I don't know why they do. She should let you handle the finances! (:

I actually was fired from a job a few months ago (for a pretty dumb reason, and I was glad to be rid of the place). I recently was hired at the bookstore at my school (won't start til september), so I'll be working on campus. I would seriously suggest that if any of you are looking for a job while in college, start by looking at positions on campus. My sister worked in the same bookstore where I got hired and she loved it. Plus they work around your schedule!

I just rejected from another job. Boo. But I have another interview, pending on Wednesday at 1. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Guh. Waiting = death
