Leslie How do you get the book list, pictures, line through when read, and date , etc etc on you're post for the January Book Challenge?

They all look so neat and I want to learn!

 ♥Lynn ♥ | 519 comments Above the box you write in, is the add book/author, click it and you can add the link the the book or author. The (some html is ok) link will allow you to learn to strike things out make bold and so on. It does take a while to learn. I am still learning. Make sure you go back to you last post and repost it with your updates, that way Mel and Yz can keep track of you count.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) To get the book link and/or bookcover pic, click on "add book/author" that is right above the comment box. Then you just do a search for the book and click either "link" or "cover" at the bottom, depending on which you want to post.

For the strike through, italics & bold you use html code, you enclose the part you want to add the formatting to within < > at the beginning and > at the end, with the code letter in the space I left.

Add an S for strikethrough, B for bold & I for italic. You can also click on the link "some html is ok" (in the right hand corner above the comment box) and it will show you the codes to use.

You can mess around with it and then click "preview" next to the "post" button to see how it will look when posted.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) And if you want to use the stars to rate books after you've read them, just copy them from someone else's post and paste them into yours--I know there is html code for them also, but when it works to just copy & paste, might as well do it the easy way. :)

Jason Bradley (slavetopassion) at the top of the comment box, there is a link that says 'add book/author. If you click on that link and search for the book you wish to add, then press the add button, it will add the code to your post. :)

html codes are needed to add lines through words. At the beginning of the portion you wish a line through put an s surrounded with the pointy brackets < >. At the end you put /s inside the pointy brackets to stop the line.

If you go to the page where you write a book review for a book you are reading, you can see more html codes on the right hand side of the page.

formatting tips

Goodreads allows some html formatting.

* well formed web urls automatically get turned into links
* link: <.a href="http://www.goodreads.com">my link text<./a>
* link to book: use the "add book/author" link or [.book: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone]
* link to author: use the "add book/author" link or [.author: J.K. Rowling]
* image: <.img src="http://www.goodreads.com/image..." width="40" height="100" alt="description"/> (Width must be 0-400, Height must be 0-1000, alt is a description of the image. All three are optional, but recommended.)
* bold text: <.b>...<./b>
* italic text: <.i>...<../i>
* underline text: <.u>...<./u>
* strike text: <.s>...<./s>
* indent text: <.pre>...<./pre>
* blockquote: <.blockquote>...<./blockquote>
* paragraph: <.p>...<./p>
* Note: tags must be properly nested, example:
OK <.i><.b>test<./b><./i>
Not OK <.i><.b>test<./i><./b>

Just take the period out from within the pointy brackets to have the correct code. :)

Debbie The Book Vixen (goodreadscomdebbiethebookvixen) way too technical for me :-)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) It's really super easy, once you do it a couple times you totally get the hang of it. It's nice when people put the clickable link for a book they're talking about--I always appreciate it so I don't have to open a new window and do a search for the book if it sounds interesting.

Thank you, because I was doing a cut and paste and lost all the book covers and strike text. Now coding I understand a little it has been a while.

Leslie So, (another stupid computer question)

can HTML codes be used on all sites that use HTML and are the codes the same for all.

If the site allows you to use html then yes, the codes are universal.
