Jennifer (fuzzybookworm) I noticed that we have similar tastes in books and was wondering if you have any reccomendations for non-fiction books. I am trying to include more non-fiction books in my reading. Have you read any "must reads" that were truly interesting? Thanks in advance.

message 67: by Helene (new)

Helene Gallaway (orion198) Jennifer,

I just joined a group on goodreads called Science and Inquiry and have seen some pretty interesting books mentioned. Maybe I'll see you on there one day?!

I think one of my favorite non-fiction books of all time was Fruitless Fall: The Collapse of the Honeybee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis . Absolutely fascinating!! I can also highly recommend anything written by Michael Pollan. He's great and I always learn something new from his books.

I also tend to browse the "new books" shelf at the library and just read whatever catches my eye. Good luck finding some good non-fiction!

Donna | 1350 comments A bit? Bit? I wept copiously.

message 71: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (fuzzybookworm) Thanks for the Reccomendation Helene! I added the book to my list already. I have been wanting to read something about the issues with the honeybee ever since an entire hive died in my friends backyard. It was so sad to see so many bees just covering the ground in her backyard like that. And I wil definitely check the author you reccomended. I am always looking for good authors.

message 72: by Helene (new)

Helene Gallaway (orion198) I hope you enjoy it. And if you come across any other interesting non-fiction reads, let me know!

message 78: by Kate (new)

Kate (kateksh) | 741 comments Heather, thanks -- I have both of those on the bookshelf next to my bed. Perhaps they will move up the list. To Heather and Helene, have you read Per Peterson's Out Stealing Horses? I loved it. His new one and the third Steig Larsen are competing for "next".

Helene Gallaway (orion198) #67. The Devil's Door (Catherine LeVendeur, #2) by Sharan Newman The Devil's Door

2 1/2 stars. Not bad, but not great, either. I felt the pace was a little slow and the array of characters too confusing. I'm sure I'll read more in the series after taking a break for a while.

Helene Gallaway (orion198) #73. Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

3 stars - this book wasn't as good as I expected it to be. The story was predictable throughout, with a main character I just didn't care for or connect with.

message 95: by Rose (new)

Rose (obsessedreader9) | 215 comments In Sarah's Key, I thought the contemporary characters were very tedious.
