Right now I am reading two, James patterson Crossfire, and Iris Johanson's Dead Aim. I look forward to discussions with you.h

message 553: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Rick Riordan and the Goner series by Michael Grant. I'm currently reading Halo by Alexandra.

message 554: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (mimih) I am not sure what class they are. Romance mystery, fantasy or something else?

message 555: by [deleted user] (new)

Kinda sci-fi, supernatural, fantasy. I've heard that the Gone series is like Lord of thee Flies, it got high praise from Stephen King.

message 556: by Kate (new)

Kate (katsie2) Hi, my name is Kate. I bought a Nook, in July, 2010, and have not stopped reading! I am retired,...younger than the norm, and finally have the time to spend reading! I'm probably a little older than the usual group here,...58, but I love reading anything involving mysteries, and books with unexpected plot twists, and endings. I took a look at what this group is reading, and for the most part, I am interested in the same. I am hoping to find better reads, and suggestions for same, here :). P.S. I don't care if it takes months to read a series,...I am up for it! Ty. K.

message 557: by Annie (new)

Annie Hey Kate! I enjoy reading the same kind of books..but I love reading anything so big surprise LOL.

message 560: by Jaye (new)

Jaye Berry Hi there! I'm Jaye,I'm 19 years old & live in the states of USA. I love YA fantasy the best. Supernatural things are just awesome. Throw in some romance that isn't totally clique and sexed up and we're good. ;)

Besides reading, I love animals, photography, watching awesome tv shows, and playing tetris.

I would love any recommendations to add to my already too big to-read list thanks to joining this site. :)

message 561: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, my name is Kenny and I just joined GoodReads. I love to read and write. One of my favorite authors is Jude Deveraux and Stephen King has been a favorite as well ever since I was a kid. I actually had the opportunity to meet him when I was on the East Coast for doing a book signing. I would love to meet John Grisham as well as Jude Deveraux.

I am originally from California but moved to the sowy mountains of Utah just recently.

message 562: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hi, my name is sandra and I just joined Goodreads. I read just about anything that is fiction, you will all ways find me with a book, I go everywhere with one. Right now I'm into reading the parnormal romances and fantasy. So far my fav's are Patrica Briggs,Rachel Cain,Karen Marie Moning,Ilona Andrews,Jayne Ann Krentz and many more. Really looking forward to this group and what they can recommend.

message 563: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Sandra,. I am new too. What is a paranormal romance? I have never heard of that terminology. Is that like "The Time Travelers Wife" or is it something different? What are some titles that go into this genre that I could check out? Thanks.

message 564: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (yabookshelf) Hi Kenneth,

"The Time Traveler's Wife" is more sci-fi in my opinion. Paranormal romance usually involves some sort of non-human/shape-shifting/supernatural being, such as a vampire, werewolf, angel, ghost, immortal, etc., and there is a romantic storyline.

I've only read YA paranormal romances, but some that you might want to check out (if you're interested) are Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce, Unearthly by Cynthia Hand, The Jumbee by Pamela Keyes, or Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. Many of these novels are part of a series or a trilogy.

Hope you enjoy!
Melissa

And a history of modern art

message 575: by Susan (new)

Susan Mallery (susanmallery) Hi, TS! I mostly read (and write) romance and women's fiction, but I enjoy reading out of those genres from time to time. I just ordered Orson Scott Card's The Lost Gate, and Michael Connelly's The Reversal is sitting on my nightstand, up next.

message 576: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Card! Reading him has encouraged me to revisit older sci fi as well.

I have never read any Connelly - but I have already made a note to check him out. Thanks so much!

message 577: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Hanel Hello.

My name is Jerry Hanel, and I'm new to GoodReads. Just looking around to see what's out there. I am an author, but I love to read as well. I enjoy paranormal mysteries, thus that's also what I write. I like seeing the descriptions of non-human events causing turmoil, or coming to the aid of the main character.

I enjoy fantasy books, but I kind of burned out on those as a kid. Maybe one day I'll re-ignite that flame inside. Who knows.

I hope to meet alot of new, wonderful people here. Just thought I'd step in and say hello and introduce myself.

message 578: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Hanel Maryjo wrote: Amazon has FREE books?"

Yep! Sometimes. I'm an author, and I know several good independent authors that post free books occasionally. I've given out several free books of my own just to get the word out about it. You just have to keep your eyes open for them. It also helps to hang around author boards. When we post a free ebook, that's where we post first.

Check out: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php...

That's where I usually post first.

message 587: by Claire (new)

Claire (vladislava) Hi everyone! My name is Claire and I'm french. I have always loved books but my obsession grew worse when I discovered Goodreads!

I began to read novels in english one year ago, and I read so many of them that it feels awkward to read in my native language now :)

I especially like the YA genre, which is not really developped in France, even though french librarians slowly begin to use the term "YA".
Also, something nice with books in english is that they are way cheaper than books published in France, which means I can allow myself to buy many many more books now! ;)

I'm looking forward making friends on Goodreads and filling up my to-read shelves ^^

message 588: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Joel!

Bienvenue Claire!

message 590: by Ceil (new)

Ceil (ceilmary) Hi, my name is Ceil. I joined Goodreads a long time ago, but never really used it much. Now that I have LibraryThing working, I'm able to add my books easily! I'm currently reading: Otherland (Book 1), The Last Bookstore in America (Kindle), Pandora's Star (audio book). Just finished Simon Green's latest Nightside book, A Hard Day's Knight, and Jan Karon's Mitford series. I read a lot of fantasy, science fiction, murder mysteries, and just about anything else I have time for. I live in Upstate NY, it's really cold and snowy, so reading is what I do after work! And I ride a bus, so I get a couple of hours of audio books in a day.

message 597: by Karilee (new)

Karilee (nugs1973) Hey~My name is Kari. I'm a single mom of a 7 year old boy & a 5 year old girl. Life leaves little time for reading :) I mostly read fiction but am currently reading the book Dealth In A Praire House Frank Lloyd Wright and the Taliesin Murders by William R. Drennan. The story interests me but the book is hard for me to get through. I fall asleep reading at night & eventually give up & turn out the light. This could be the book or it could just be that my life is busy & my body needs sleep! I have added MANY books to my Books-To-Read list and am VERY excited about getting started. One thing I want this year is to MAKE time to read for pleasure. This is were I have chosen to start my quest! I'm glad to be here :)

mike jay (mikeaj) Hello everyone,
I'm MJ and live in Portland, OR. I had an account here at GoodReads once before but decided to start a fresh one with the New Year and just concentrate on my 2011 reading challenge. I'm still making out a list of what I actually want to read but have set a goal of 25. I'm on my fifth already this year, if I keep on at that pace I'll surely exceed it. I like the new widget they have to track challenges now.

l wanted to say hi before I lurk through the topics here and see where I can jump in. Looks like quite an active group!

Charles Keith Hardman (ckhardman) Hello. I am Charles and I have written two books. My first one No Lullaby for Tommy is already published and is available on line. It is in paperback and ebook format. My second book The Curse is about to be published. My publisher likes it so much that they are willing to publish and promote it for free if I presell 100 books. I could use a little help. Just google my first book and if you feel I am worthy let me know if you will purchase my next one. Thanks, Charles.
