Camille (sheseemsfunny) Hi, I'm Camille and I have to admit I joined another discussion before my introduction. I have always loved reading and plan to pass that on to my children. I set a goal of reading 20 books this year. I've read two and working on the third, so I'm in good shape. Its so nice to be able to come to a place and mingle with people who share the same love as me. Also, its cool to be able to meet and chat with writers I admire as well as adding to those I like. Thanks guys for making this so easy!!

message 606: by Lalalalaaa (new)

Lalalalaaa Well ok, the only thing I can think of to write about myself in introductions is that I suck at writing introductions. I really do. So! Let's skip the part about my life.

When it comes to books, I guess I'm pretty simple. You read because you want to be entertained. You want to be left with some kind of impression. And you want the story to give you something, even if it's just a bunch of laughs (or lots of nightmares if you're into scary stories, like I am). That doesn't mean the book has to be hard to get through just because the author is too intelligent for his audience (and I'm not just saying that because I don't speak English fluently) or politically correct or whatever. Sometimes I feel that people are just pretending to like a book or even force themselves to like it simply because they feel that they SHOULD. What's the point of that? If I wanted to be bored while reading, I'd just pick up my history book. And you don't see me doing that very often. Don't you dare blame it on my age - you know you hate boring books too.

That being said (is this the longest introduction ever, or what?), I like books with strong and memorable characters. Whiny, demanding and weak characters puts me off enough to burn an otherwise promising book (er.. I mean, sell them on ebay). And since I feel that I'm only getting started and know that this is going to turn into a novel-length rant (don't blame me, I just read Speak and wanted to kill myself despite all the good reviews), I'm going to stop now.

And this is why I hate introductions. Why can't I ever just say where I'm from and what the weather's like and how many pets I have (only one, a golden retriever, she's adorable)?! Anyway, although I doubt anyone got through this post, which is understandable since you've got lots of books on your to-read-list... I'm just going to say what I should've started with: I'm happy to be here!

Gloria Jackson (PlanetQueen72) Hi! I'm Gloria and I'm constantly busy. I am open to any suggestions about books and...well. Everything really. I talk a lot and it's mostly pointless rambling, which I guess is the result of being the youngest in a huge family. And I'm from Louisiana but I live in California.
And I guess that's all I can say really. :)

Judy Hodges Hi! I'm Judy from Pennsylvania. I'm a school librarian so I get to indulge my passion every day - only it's usually in the form of picture book read alouds for elementary students. I joined this group so I can interact with adult readers who share my love of books. If we keep having snow days I may actually get some reading done...

RAIN (rain_holt) I'm Civia well it depends on what i'm doing sometimes it RAIN. I'm from Washington and no not forks. teachers at school are always like come on people learn to read when we have a class book and i'll have already read it. they also figured out a long time ago that if you try and give me a reading long it is so much easier to just write down whatever book i read that month becuase normally the list equals over well at least a book a day at noramlly at least 300 pages for book...
I hate the color pink, i don't care what people think of me i speak french a little latin, know some greek, spanish, italian, russian and japanese (meaning i know the basics and can cus in those languages). my read list is like 1000 books a year, it's gotten to the at the library i have my own hold shelf when i check out books. i'm the youngest of 4 sisters and any art is our lives mine's mainly Literature and Music, sometimes drawing.

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon, Richelle Mead, P.C. Cast, L.J. Smith, Christopher Pike, and the list is so much longer.

Isolabella Hello everyone, I am new to Goodreads and just joined your group. I enjoy reading but finding time it is always difficult. At the moment I am reading A Bend In The Road by Nicholas Sparks. Have a wonderful day.......

message 613: by Joyce (new)

Joyce I have been lurking on Goodreads for quite awhile now & just decided to join some groups. I read mostly romance, women's fiction & biographies. I am retired now but I used to run a small town library in Alberta & also worked in the book selling industry for nearly 15 years. My older siblings taught me to read when I was 5 because they were sick of reading to me. By the time I was 10 I was reading my dad's westerns. Books have been my main interest all my life. I wish now that I had stayed in school & become a full fledged Llibrarian. I follow quite a few book blogs & book sites & goodreads has become one of my favs. I am slowly getting my books read updated. Some of my fav authors are Eileen Goudge, Deborah Smith, Lavyrle Spencer, Susan E. Phillips, Madeline Hunter, Barbara Delinsky, Julia Quinn......O never mind, it is too long to add them all here!!!

Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) One of the books they were giving away at American Librarians Association was Catcher, Caught about a 16 year old boy with leukemia who's just read The Catcher in the Rye. High school teachers are using it in their classes to bring Holden's issues about morality, friendship, family and grief into the 21st century. Galley Cat interviewed the author Honenberger and Forever Young Adult and Bookdads blog reviewed it, among others. Let me know what you think (it's my third novel, first with a big publisher). Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) Karen (with the stem cell transplant) I hope you're getting stronger every day. I did the cancer thing in 2009, a war, but am in a drug trial now and am amazed how good my life is. My third novel CATCHER, CAUGHT is getting tons of great coverage, Galley Cat interview, Bookdads blog and Forever young adult blog, NPR interview will post in March. In CATCHER, CAUGHT, 16 year Daniel has leukemia and he's just read The Catcher in the Rye. High school teachers are using it in their classes to bring Holden Caulfield's issues about morality, friendship, family and grief into the 21st century. Let me know what you think. I'll be leading the book discussion on The Iron King in March on Goodreads's group YA BOOK CLUB, a good group to join because they talk about the books in more depth than just what they like to read. onarock wrote: "hi everyone..my name is karen, and i love to read.......i had a stem cell transplant last year, and was not interested in reading until around christmas.....i was so excited to get back into it aga..."

Great premise for a book. I'll check out your website. At my author events, I usually hand out a list called "Under the Radar," books I think my readers may have missed that as a novelist I think are worth reading. My books deal with ordinary families with extraordinary problems. In the new novel, 16 year old Daniel Landon is diagnosed with leukemia the summer he reads The Catcher in the Rye. Galley Cat posted an interview and review, bookdads blog and Forever Young Adult reviews, and NPR interview will post in March. Let me know what you think.

message 624: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) More than halfway through The Iron King and it's getting hard to put down for the rivalry between Ash and Puck. If you had a little trouble with the slow beginning, push ahead. The movement between the real world and the fantasy gets very creative in the middle. We'll start the discussion on February 28 on the YA BOOK CLUB group. Fascinating for this author who usually reads about 'ordinary' people and not elvings and such.

message 625: by Malka (new)

Malka (malkaeshan) Hi.
I've been in the group awhile but just discovered this thread, so I may very well introduce myself formally, as it would only be the right and proper thing to do. :)

I love reading but I suppose I needn't have said that since the group's name IS "Books are my life"!!! but oh well. It was worth saying, seeing as they are.
I am so completely absolutely obsessed with books that I will ALWAYS have a book near me ALL the time, (except in the shower, for obvious reasons). I didn't use to like writing, but now I love it, except when I have to write essays for school, but I can't seem to find the time to do my own writing because I'm either in school, or doing my HW, or reading. Or sleeping. Or...always doing something i have to, for whatever reason, which prevents me from writing.
I'm from Yangon, Myanmar, but my ancestors are (all?) from the subcontinental region (Pakistan-India-Bangladesh)- that's where they lived before they migrated to Myanmar, but then later they went back to Pakistan, but i was born and raised in Myanmar (Burma), so I've always considered myself more Burmese than Pakistani or Indian. I have moved around a lot in the past 8-ish years, my last move being in 2008 when I moved to New Jersey, US. I have a rather large family- we're 5 children, myself included; my older sister, myself, my little sister, and my little brothers. I live with my extended family (grandparents, uncle, cousins) so there's always someone around. Which can get a little annoying sometimes.
This is another awfully long introduction, much like Peytavi's, whose I actually read, all the way through.
The book I last read was The Scorch Trials (its the second book in the series) and it's absolutely amazing. I've been convinced to read Delirium so that's on my currently-reading list.
And that was an awfully long introduction.
Very much like Peytavi, I'm going to end with what should have been my intro to my intro: Pleasure to meet 'cha all.

message 632: by Marie (new)

Marie (mariethea) Hello! I'm Marie, and (obviously) I'm a reader :) Since I found the internet, my reading tastes are a lot more scattered--it's difficult to count how many LJ posts you read as it is books.

My tastes are wide and varied, which means volunteering at the library is dangerous for my TBR list, but I continue there anyway! I also write, or try to, and I'd love to join a writer's group locally, if only their were one. I also aspire to be a part of the publishing industry, as an editor. In other words, I spend as much of my life with books as possible (while still having a life ;))

Lisa Consiglio-Wolff (jrzgirl_1967) | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Lisa and I have loved reading books as far back as I can remember. I currently reside in Wilmington, NC but I am originally from the Jersey Shore.

My Mom was the one who set me on the path to reading by taking me once a week to our fabulous library in the township I grew up in New Jersey.

I was hooked immediately when I discovered there were magical places I could travel too and fabulous characters with incredible stories to tell.

As I always say....reading is not a chore but a delightful escape and I am always shocked when I hear people say they don't like to read...that to me is like saying they don't like to breath or eat.

Reading is my existance!

I am never far from a book, carrying one with me always. I only wish there were more hours in the reading day.

I will read everything and anything and it is very rare when I don't like a novel or am disappointed in the ending.

So thanks to my Mom in heaven for opening a world to me filled with adventure whenever I open a book.
