If you (and anyone else really) is interested, I'll be posting an interview tomorrow on my blog with the writer of Jane Slayre, Sherri Erwin. I think you'll all love her responses to my questions, but more than that, you can feel free to leave questions on the post as Sherri will be popping by periodically throughout the day to respond to them!

I can, however, say that Jane Slayre was really done in a loving way. She doesn't just add things to be funny where they don't make sense, but she definitely adds something special to it. It's possible that you won't like it, but I'm all for the classics myself (have an MA in 19th C. lit). This was just a fun new take on it in my humble opinion.

Sherri is answering questions all day long, so come on by, leave a question in the comments, and she'll respond: Today only!

Today i am starting to the Dark Lover(haven't read the BDB series yet) so i am excited... I loved the Nightwalkers series too :) LOve chatting books and meeting new people..

Hey Sandi,
My name is April and it looks like we share a lot of the same tastes in reading - I love historical fiction, more about that later - we need to compare lists, I think.
But what caught my eye about your post right now is one of the books I'm reading right now:
The Challice by Phil Rickman (be aware, there are a lot of other books by the same title)
Anyway, I thought you might find this one interesting as it brings together both fantasy, history and mystery.
It's modern day Glasonbury and Avalon, fantasy/history of the area and pagan practices, etc, AND it is a bit of a ?murder (not totally sure whether we actually have a murder yet; as i'm 1/3 in).
So, I wouldn't classify The Challice as horror; put it is errie and mysterious; so maybe you'd like to give it a try?
Let me know if you do, okay?
And I'll through Phlippa Gregory and Margaret George out as two of my most favorite writers of historical fiction. Tell me some of yours, and maybe I;ll find some new ones to read.
Thanks,
April

Getting a little ahead of myself here - commenting on comments before giving a proper intro.
My name is April and I am a long-time, avid reader. Mostly fiction/literature, have read a lot of classics (recently Silas Marner), and some non-fiction too.
I've spent the last few years reading a lot of historical fiction; recently finished Wolf Hall), , and The Constant Princess); SciFi; have read a lot of Robert j Sawyer (especially Calculating God - loved it and am in the middle of his Parallex/homid series).
I also really enjoy audio books - this has easily added another two/books/week to my 'reading'.
I'm enjoying poking around in this labrythian Books Are My Life group - I'm in the middle of Breakably Yours. I hope I can find my way to the correct link when discussion starts on June 15th - I will accept whatever guidance anyone has to offer.
Thanks,
April

Clearly we share a lot of authors: I really ejoyed the Diana Gabaldon series and turned a lot of my friends on to her.
And a friend urged me to try carlos ruz zafon's Shadow and the Wind turned out to be one of my fave reads last year. It felt a little like South American magic realism (eg marquez 100 Years of Solitude X John Irving - The World According to Garp mash up ;-). The characters were so quirky but endearing. I'll have to look for the second title of his you mentioned. When I really like one book by an author, I'm always excited to check out their other work. I must have alredy been reading a lot of books last year when I read Shadow and the Wind. I'm adding it to my Check it Out list right now.
I didn't realize there is a historical fiction club - I'll go look for that too.
And seriously, check out Phillipa Gregory and Margaret George when you have a chance.
Off to bed to read.
G'night,
April

The Secret Book of Grazia de Rossi,
by Jaqueline Park
It's historical fiction of Renaissance Italy, and the main character is Grazia and she's the daughter of Jewish bankers (Christians were prohited from commiting usury/charging interest - so they left it to the jews).
Park worked on this book for ten years and she only has one other earlier one. And since she's written so little; you might miss this one and that would be a shame.
Let me know if you read it and what you thought, okay?
Now, i am definitely going to bed to read!

I LOVED these books!! 5 star for me..its a mystery, book about the love of books, got some romance...I would read the angels game first as it is the prequel but was written second..but it dosent matter which order. did you read in my profile "about me" I say "a room without books is like a body without a soul" quote from shadow of the wind! try the library if your not sure hope this helps :)

Some That I would suggest than are:
Those are probably the ones that fit best under the discription that you gave.

Anyway, I like reading angst/tragedy books. So, if any of you guys have any suggestions, please tell me.
I'm currently reading If I Stay by Gayle Forman and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Both books are good. But I must say, THe Book Thief is more interesting.

Becky, I have Hush Hush when you want to give it a try just let me know.
Alex, I have The Book Thief sitting on my shelf and am scared to start it. I keep hearing such mixed opions. Because of that it keeps getting put to the bottom of the pile.
