6 down!
Up Next: The Outlaw Demon Wails. I'm excited to give Kim Harrison another try. Her Hollows series was what turned me on to paranormal/urban fantasy in the first place. But after so many books, the series started getting stale and a little annoying. So I'm hoping I can get back into it.

I’m sorry to say but: this was not good. Was this really Jeaniene Frost? What happened to the woman who wrote such a fresh and exciting book with Halfway to the Grave?
Granted: I wasn’t the biggest Night Huntress series fan. So many nice ideas but nothing really fleshed out (thin plot, flat secondaries, etc.) But I came into these spin off series expecting a PNR novel. The only thing important to me was a remotely believable plot and a likeable h/h couple. I got none of that.
The whole story was one huge plot hole and Denise deserves a new acronym: TFATL (Too F*cking Annoying To Live). Pardon my French but you’ll excuse me for it after you’ve read the book. Could she be any more stupid?
A First Drop of Crimson was a bunch of PNR clichés and a stupid heroine put together.
2,5 stars even seems too generous.

I'm working on book four, but I have accidentally read Moon Called by Patricia Briggs today. It's due back at the library soon and I waited about a month to get it. I don't know why, but I've started reading all the books on my list at the same time. I've read the first story from the Imago sequence and it's pretty terrifying. Nice to have a day off so I can just sit and read and chill.

Still having computer problems. Hubby is thinking that my computer is too old to run Win7, so he's talking about putting NT back on it.
My work for my classes is going much better than my reading is this month. Its been so snowy here (record snowfall for the year going all the way back to 1897, the first year they kept totals) with almost 53 inches of snow for the winter. So we've been digging out, getting dumped on, digging out, getting dumped on. . . Which is also taking a lot of time. Plus the hubby has been sick--and he is a lousy patient.
Still, I have managed to get 5 of my books read. And I am going to give Ward another chance, with Covet and see if it was just the weird stuff she did with BDB that put me off her.

10. With more than one Author Ladies Prefer Rogues by Janet Chapman, Sandra Hill et. Al.
I've actually read 2 books since my last posting, but since I didn't have the computer when I finished the first, they are both getting posted now.
Ladies Prefer Rogues was ok--it has 4 stories in it, all dealing with time traveling. 2 were good, 1 was ok, and 1 I yawned all the way through, but I DID read it anyway so that I could count the book.
The Cinderella Deal was a typical Jennifer Crusie book. Light, breezy and fun read. No real PN elements, but she was the only GR writer that I could find fast in my TBR pile, so I went with her. :o)

Queene of Light has is the start of a series that has possiblities. It was a simple read with some perdictable and unscene twist and turns. There was something I just cant put my finger on that has made me not love the book. I will give the second book a chance to see if i grow to love the series.

Well--first of all--I did like Covet better than the BDB books. However, my big complaint about it was--it was a 300page book that she beefed up to almost 450 pages. Part of it was repetition. But she also doesn't seem to be able to use only 1 word when 5 will do. I'm still not a HUGE fan--but I am willing to give book 2 of the Fallen Angels a try--just to see if the LENGTH of Covet had something to do with it being a "first book in a series syndrome". If you guys hadn't twisted my arm (shaking out sore arm) then I probably wouldn't have given her another chance. But I've decided that at least this series deserves yet another chance.

Just finished reading Hotter Than Hell, an anthology edited by Kim Harrison with the following stories:
○ Music Hath Charms - Tanya Huff - ★★★★
○ Minotaur in Stone - Marjorie M. Liu - ★★★
○ Demon Lover - Cheyenne McCray - ★★★★
○ Equinox - L.A. Banks - ★★★★
○ Ride a Dark Horse - Susan Krinard - ★★★★
○ To Die For - Kerri Arthur - ★★★★
○ Curse of the Dragon's Tears - Heidi Betts - ★★★★
○ Brother's Keeper - Lilith Saintcrow - ★★★★★
○ (Like A) Virgin of the Spring - Susan Sizemore & Denise Little - ★★★★
○ Life is the Teacher - Carrie Vaughn - ★★★
○ Moonlight Becomes You - Linda Winstead Jones - ★★★
○ Dirty Magic - Kim Harrison - ★★★
Overall, I'd have to give the anthology 4 stars. All the stories were pretty solid, but none of them were truly mind-blowingly awesome. I was a little surprised how much I liked the L.A. Banks story considering I absolutely despise her Vampire Huntress series. The only authors that were completely new to me were Kerri Arthur, Heidi Betts, and Susan Sizemore/Denise Little, although some of the other authors aren't ones I easily recognize and now realize I should be reading more of - especially Lilith Saintcrow. Looks like I should pick up her Valentine series since that's in what world "Brother's Keeper" takes place. Strangely enough, all of the 3 star authors above are ones whose regular series novels I frequently give 5 stars.

I am so happy I have finally gotten around to reading Stray. I had a hard time finding this book. For some reason certain bookstores stopped carrying. I think they are coming out with a new addition. I really enjoyed the main characters personality and realizations of herself and her family. It really struck home in a lot of ways. This isnt a book for those with a faint stomach but if you like a strong female character you will truely enjoy the read. I cant wait to start the next book in the series!

Shiver was fantastic. Great characters, excellent writing, a really cool take on werewolves. It will be hard to wait until mid-summer for the sequel. I highly recommend it.
Another great book from Elizabeth Vaughan. White Star continued right where Dagger-Star left off, but with different main characters. Vaughan does such a great job with mixing just the right amount of romance, magic, and adventure. I'm looking forward to her next book which she thoughfully and cleverly lets the reader know which characters will be the next books main characters. She continues to be my favorite author.
I was a little disappointed by Staked. There were some inconsistencies in the world that was created. Sometimes to the point of confusing the hell out of me. Lots of sarcasm and dry humor, which is good, decent characters and an okay plot. I'm sure I will read the sequel, but I'm not rushing out to buy it based on this book.
Well, I am glad that I gave the author of Angel of Mercy a second chance, but I won't be picking up the next book. I bought book 1 (Beg for Mercy) and this book at my library's used book sale last summer. After reading the first book at the beginning of the year, I had put it and this book aside to get rid of. I only spent a dollar total on them so I didn't really care if I hadn't read the second book. Now I can feel like I didn't waste any money, but I sort of wasted my time. I actually struggled to remember who was who and what had happened in the other book even though I read it 6 weeks ago. That says it all, the books are forgettable.
So, Karen Chance is totally my new favorite author and I wish Cassie was my BFF. I loved Touch the Dark, which I read last month, so I was hoping that Claimed By Shadow would be just as good, and it was fanatastic. I love all the characters and the whole world. I love the pace of these books. I'm so glad I bought the whole series and the spin offs so I can keep reading!
I enjoyed Fragile Eternity just as much as the first two in the series. This one ended with somewhat of a cliffhanger. I'm hoping the next book will make the characters more decisive. I'm getting a little tired of the who should I be with that seems to be catching in these books.
