Stardust is a wonderful fairy tale like story that makes your feel like you are reading about the past with a few touches of the future. For those who enjoyed the movie and wonder about the book I would say give the book a read. There are differences between the two of course but the odd this I noticed is that it seems they added more to the movie then they took away from the original story. The book isnt as "quarky" as I found the movie but I enjoyed it all the same.

Just finished Jane Bites Back: A Novel by Michael Thomas Ford which I give four stars.
What if Jane Austen didn't die of illness in 1817, but instead was turned into a vampire and is now living in upstate NY and running her own bookstore? That's Jane Bites Back in a nutshell. Jane lives in a small town where no one knows she's a vampire. She runs the bookstore by day, feeds discretely at night and in her private time tries to get her current manuscript, Constance published. Suddenly her unlife is in turmoil, both good & bad. Yes, she finally has a publisher interested in Constance, but she's also being plagued by the unwanted attentions of her maker, Lord Byron.
I adored this book! It was a fun, lightweight read with a good amount of silliness. If you love both Jane Austen and vampires, it's a must read! Much better than the recent bestseller Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, in my opinion. A second in the series, Jane Goes Batty, is also in the works.

Carried on to the second book in the Cassie Palmer series, as I don't have the new Kresley Cole book yet and needed an author with a "C" surname. It was good and I look forward to discovering more.

Jaime, just note that I'm fairly forgiving. I think I still gave P&P&Zombies a 3 star. Although I really should have given it a 2 star. But I adore anything JA. Jane Bites Back was definitely better, but still not a fabulous book. Just a good bit of fun if you love PNR and JA. Which I do! :-) I need to get my hands on "Mr. Darcy, Vampyre" next.

Ok, ok, I admit it--I'm weak, weak, weak. I broke down and read my "author born the same year as you" book. Its a fantasy rather than a PNR--but it DOES have not one but TWO heas. :o) I gave the book 4 stars.

Now comes the hard part, the initial one. I am thinking that I'm going to have to use an author's first name for my first initial. Altho I realized that the Catherine Asaro actually fit THREE (ok 4 if you count the female one) categories. In addition to being born the same year I was--it was the first book of hers that I'd ever read--and her last name starts with the same initial as my first name. Altho, actually now that I THINK about it. . . Hey Yz--What are we counting as "first name?" :oP Ok, ok, I'm weird, I admit it, but I never ever, ever used my first name. (long story short, named for my Uncle Larry who died as a result of injuries received at Pearl Harbour--and am one of SEVEN of us with Laura/Larry names.) So, as soon as I got married, I dropped that like a hot potato and went to using my middle name and maiden name. Ok, so, I'm getting a little punch drunk here--been a long, long, LONG day, and I only slept for 4 hours last night--and 3 the night before. But I'm suffering with a cold/sore throat, and having trouble breathing when I'm laying down.

Just finished Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, Dhampir, Book 1) by Karen Chance which I give 4 stars. If you read the Cassandra Palmer series, you'll be happy to note that this is a spin-off of that series. While the main character is different and you probably can read this series without reading the Cassie series, I'm inclined to think that understanding this book is a lot easier if you read the Cassie series first. Because I'm feeling lazy, here's the blurb from the back of the book:
"Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half human, half vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. So far Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing.
Now Dory's vampire father has come back into her life. Her uncle Dracula (yes, THE Dracula), infamous even among vampires for his cruelty and murderous ways, has escaped his prison. And her father wants Dory to work with the gorgeous master vampire Louis-Cesare to put him back there.
Vampires and dhampirs are mortal enemies, and Dory prefers to work alone. But Dracula is the only thing on earth that truly scares her, so when Dory has to go up against him, she'll take all the help she can get . . . "
Karen Chance was my "second chance" author for this challenge because I gave up on the Cassandra Palmer series after the second book. While I like this series (so far) better than that one, there's still something missing. I like Dory and enjoyed the sexual tension between her & Louis-Cesare as well as her and a particularly interesting Fae that will go un-named for the time being and will probably pick up book #2 just to see what happens with those pairings. However, I don't like the world-building so much. A lot seems to be missing. Perhaps that's just because the reader is expected to have gotten it from the CP series? I also don't like the fight sequences that much. There seems to be too much happening without a good explanation of WHY it's happening. During one particular scene three parties of "bad guys" are all trying to kill Dory & the good guys. Not only does it get rather messy in the readers head (IMO), it's also just too convenient for the storyline that they all showed up at the same place at the same time.
Still, good story overall, with a kick-ass protagonist and good sexual tension.

There is an author born in 1981. I'm going to use him for my challenge too: Mark Charen Newton with Nights of Villjamur. One who died in 1981 is also acceptable by the way.

4. goodreads author - Gideon by Jacquelyn Frank
10. two authors - Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Shiver was fantastic. Great characters, excellent writing, a really cool take on werewolves. It will be hard to wait until mid-summer for the sequel. I highly recommend it.
Another great book from Elizabeth Vaughan. White Star continued right where Dagger-Star left off, but with different main characters. Vaughan does such a great job with mixing just the right amount of romance, magic, and adventure. I'm looking forward to her next book which she thoughfully and cleverly lets the reader know which characters will be the next books main characters. She continues to be my favorite author.
I was a little disappointed by Staked. There were some inconsistencies in the world that was created. Sometimes to the point of confusing the hell out of me. Lots of sarcasm and dry humor, which is good, decent characters and an okay plot. I'm sure I will read the sequel, but I'm not rushing out to buy it based on this book.
Well, I am glad that I gave the author of Angel of Mercy a second chance, but I won't be picking up the next book. I bought book 1 (Beg for Mercy) and this book at my library's used book sale last summer. After reading the first book at the beginning of the year, I had put it and this book aside to get rid of. I only spent a dollar total on them so I didn't really care if I hadn't read the second book. Now I can feel like I didn't waste any money, but I sort of wasted my time. I actually struggled to remember who was who and what had happened in the other book even though I read it 6 weeks ago. That says it all, the books are forgettable.
So, Karen Chance is totally my new favorite author and I wish Cassie was my BFF. I loved Touch the Dark, which I read last month, so I was hoping that Claimed By Shadow would be just as good, and it was fanatastic. I love all the characters and the whole world. I love the pace of these books. I'm so glad I bought the whole series and the spin offs so I can keep reading!
I enjoyed Fragile Eternity just as much as the first two in the series. This one ended with somewhat of a cliffhanger. I'm hoping the next book will make the characters more decisive. I'm getting a little tired of the who should I be with that seems to be catching in these books.
I really liked Vampire Academy and look forward to continuing the series. It was a quick and fun read and I liked all the characters. I'm always happy when the books I buy just because everyone on goodreads talks about them, end up being worth the money.
The Devil You Know was about as good as the first book in the series. I will be reading the third book because I own it, but I'm not rushing to pick it up or buy any more of this series. It was a fast, easy read, but I started to get sick of the main character. I was sort of getting sick of all the characters, actually. I better quit thinking about the book before I decide not to read the next one.

There is an author born in 1981. I'm going to use him for my challenge too: Mark Charen Newto..."
thanks for letting me know. Unfortunatly my library doesn't have his book and its £9 to buy the book. I think I'll pass on it just now. I've got lots to read anyway. :) Cheers anyway Mel!

Really enjoyed Tempest Rising. Nicole Peeler has created an interesting and amusing new world and I'm really looking forward to the next in the series.

Im sorry to say that the immortals series just doesnt make me jump up and down. Blue Moon, the second book in the series, was an ok read. It was quick and easy but pretty perdictable. My main issue with the series is the main character Ever. The girl needs to grow a brain. In this book, I was actually rooting for the "evil bad guy" cause if anyone was stupid enough to fall for his tricks, they deserve to lose. If you are looking for a quick, thought-less read, I would pick up the books but if you prefer a story with a complex plot you will not enjoy this book.

Dead to the World was AWESOME! The Sookie series just keeps getting better.
Kiss of Crimson was two stars up until the middle and then it turned into a four star book – I think I’ll try one more book of hers, but she’s definitely not a favorite.
X-Men:Dark Mirror was highly irritating as all your favorite mutants have switched bodies with mental hospital patients with no special abilities. The story is well-written, but I like the X-men BECAUSE of their superpowers – take those away and I was just overly frustrated the whole time. My husband even begged me to read something else ‘cause I was so grumpy while reading it.
The Lightning Thief was most excellent – very good book and excellent young adult writing.
No Rest for the Wicked was great fun – I love Kresley Cole and so far have thoroughly adored her heroines.
Dates from Hell was a good read depending on the author – the first story I did NOT like, but the 2nd & 4th were great fun.

9 books down! Just read Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. I've tried getting into this series once before, and I just have a hard time with it. The book took me about half of it to really get into the story. I wasn't too happy with the world building. I feel like I have lots of questions still! I did like some of the characters that were introduced, especially Curran. I think that he and the mystery behind who Kate really is are the two things that will make me try out book #2

Jamie...I was bummed out with Blue Moon, too. I enjoyed Evermore because it was a bit different than what I had been reading, but the sequel was a train wreck. I'm not sure I want to bother with book 3.
And yes...Rob Thurman is a woman :)
