I really enjoyed it! Very different from my typical read. I'm not usually that much of a sci-fi fan, but it was interesting. You couldn't help but just be amazed at everything that they put Ender through.
My only real problem with books like this is the entire time I was reading I was trying to figure out exactly what the author was really trying to say, because I'm sure that he was using it as a metaphor for other things!
But I think it'll take me a while to really wrap my head around the whole thing and write a review of it!

Tracy--with PNR, PN, fantasy and sci-fi, its usually a good idea to read at least the second book in a series before totally writing the author/series off. Usually in these genres there is so much world building to do that the first book is more about THAT than about the actual "story" part. So I almost always wait til that second book--unless there is something about the writer/story that I find totally off-putting (cough BDB cough).

A good start to a new UF series. This one is about two brothers Cal and Niko who have lived a life on the run, trying to escape the ghost… or better: monsters from their past. But the monsters have caught up with them.
The book wasn’t an ‘on the edge of your seat’- kind of thing but very engaging nonetheless. And the dynamic between the brothers was heart warming.
A good read.

Not read:

Soulless was excellent – riotously funny alternate history Victorian paranormal romance, can’t wait for the second book!
The Digital Plague was very good – I’m still in love with Avery Cates but getting frustrated that no one he’s attracted to ever manages to live (or at least stay human) to the end of a book. I mean if anyone ever deserved some romance it’s Mr. Cates, but alas Somers seems determined to work the universe against him. Every new thing that went horribly wrong I kept thinking of that line from The Little Rascals where Alfalfa loses all hope and goes: “And the sky opened up and God said, ‘I hate you Alfalfa.’” So despite the mind-boggling number of fatalities, the book is funny in a totally twisted sort of way.

Ashley - Big Congratulations on finishing your first challenge!!!

I loved Soulless too. The cover made me pick it up but the book was so great it ended up being one of my favorite 2009 books.

4. goodreads author - Gideon by Jacquelyn Frank
Shiver was fantastic. Great characters, excellent writing, a really cool take on werewolves. It will be hard to wait until mid-summer for the sequel. I highly recommend it.
Another great book from Elizabeth Vaughan. White Star continued right where Dagger-Star left off, but with different main characters. Vaughan does such a great job with mixing just the right amount of romance, magic, and adventure. I'm looking forward to her next book which she thoughfully and cleverly lets the reader know which characters will be the next books main characters. She continues to be my favorite author.
I was a little disappointed by Staked. There were some inconsistencies in the world that was created. Sometimes to the point of confusing the hell out of me. Lots of sarcasm and dry humor, which is good, decent characters and an okay plot. I'm sure I will read the sequel, but I'm not rushing out to buy it based on this book.
Well, I am glad that I gave the author of Angel of Mercy a second chance, but I won't be picking up the next book. I bought book 1 (Beg for Mercy) and this book at my library's used book sale last summer. After reading the first book at the beginning of the year, I had put it and this book aside to get rid of. I only spent a dollar total on them so I didn't really care if I hadn't read the second book. Now I can feel like I didn't waste any money, but I sort of wasted my time. I actually struggled to remember who was who and what had happened in the other book even though I read it 6 weeks ago. That says it all, the books are forgettable.
So, Karen Chance is totally my new favorite author and I wish Cassie was my BFF. I loved Touch the Dark, which I read last month, so I was hoping that Claimed By Shadow would be just as good, and it was fanatastic. I love all the characters and the whole world. I love the pace of these books. I'm so glad I bought the whole series and the spin offs so I can keep reading!
I enjoyed Fragile Eternity just as much as the first two in the series. This one ended with somewhat of a cliffhanger. I'm hoping the next book will make the characters more decisive. I'm getting a little tired of the who should I be with that seems to be catching in these books.
I really liked Vampire Academy and look forward to continuing the series. It was a quick and fun read and I liked all the characters. I'm always happy when the books I buy just because everyone on goodreads talks about them, end up being worth the money.
The Devil You Know was about as good as the first book in the series. I will be reading the third book because I own it, but I'm not rushing to pick it up or buy any more of this series. It was a fast, easy read, but I started to get sick of the main character. I was sort of getting sick of all the characters, actually. I better quit thinking about the book before I decide not to read the next one.
After a very busy week with little time to read, I finally finished Beautiful Creatures. I liked it, but it wasn't hard to put down. I found I was distracted easily from reading it, so that doesn't score many stars with me. It was a great concept and plot, but maybe a bit long. I'll watch for more by these authors though, because for a first book, and a collaboration between two authors, it was decent.

Favorites this month were the Dresden books, Josh Lanyon, and Tobias Buckell.
I was most pleasantly surprised by the last. He was my choice for "born in the same year as."
Firstly, it's dreadlocked Caribbeans. In space. How great is that? I mean, there are other folks too, but this one character Pepper is wicked. Me gusta. He gets his own book later! Can't wait!
Crystal Rain is sort of sci-fi, sort of fantasy. The pacing is great. The mystery of the lead character's origins is slowly revealed through the course of the story; Buckell strikes a great balance between giving enough info to keep you invested, and holding back details for a big reveal. I'm definitely reading the next.
Thanks Yz! That's two months in a row you've got me to find new favorites!
