Check out the library. Mine has the audiobooks.

Oh, good idea...I really hadn't thought about them having these books on audio! Thanks for the suggestion.

Always see me for cheap solutions:)

message 204: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2653 comments If I should get them in audiobooks nothing would get done to completion. I can see myself getting started and getting sidetracked by Eve

Good to know, Jonetta. I don't get anything done now if I get into a book...I'm thinking with audio I can at least be doing the housework, mowing the yard, or some mindless chore that doesn't require my mind to be focused. I'm calling the library!

I am so productive when I'm listening to my audiobooks. One day I ironed for over an hour and was a bit upset when I ran out of clothes to press. My husband loves it because I don't complain about cooking. And don't even get me started on the dusting and bathroom cleaning. Things just end up sparkling. These are all fairly mindless tasks so I get completely absorbed in the book.

Go for it!

message 207: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Exactly...that's what I'm talking about...mindless but necessary chores...I can totally see myself absorbed in an audio book cleaning the toilet! lol I checking it out for sure!

message 208: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments And while I am driving too. I am taking a 14 hour trip this month and for the first time am actually looking forward to it. I can get through at least 3 books by the time I get home lol

Oh, don't even get me started on road trips!!!! I can knock off two audiobooks on some of mine. I couldn't imagine doing a drive that long any more without my books.

message 210: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I know. Especially since there is a good couple of hours through the mountains with no radio reception. Last year I got soo tired of my CD's. I am now trying to figure out if I want to start at te beginning or just pick random favorites. Lol. NYTD is a long one.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15059 comments Mod
You cannot go wrong with either choice:)

message 212: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments This is true. I will be ready for a JDR break too. I have been on a Julia Quinn and Judith McNaught binge for the past few weeks.

message 213: by Gina (new)

Gina | 40 comments I am just finishing up "Sea Swept." I love this series too. Then, I'm going to start on another book. I'm not sure which one. I'm might read Agatha Christie's "The Hollow."

My hubby hates for me to read or use headphones as in ipod during our road trips...alas, no listening to audio books then for me. Most of my trips driving alone are short ones.

message 216: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Oh no, this is a trip all by myself. The first one in years without children or dogs.

message 217: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15059 comments Mod
Yes, Sandra, these are all solo trips for me, too. Whenever my husband travels with me, he drives and I read my ebooks:)

message 218: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Hmm Dawn...sounds kinda nice taking a trip like that...peace, quiet, audio books. I could totally get into that!

My hubby wants me to talk to him during our trips...we switch back and forth with the driving sometimes. He just wants my attention so I leave my ereader and ipod packed away.

My husband listens to jazz and classical music. Works for me!

message 220: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2653 comments Ladies I have a silly question. What does the voice sound like on audiobooks? Ive never listen to one. And I would be disappointed if the voice was just . . . Not right.

message 221: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Well, there is a bit of dissension on that issue. I love Susan Ericksen reading this series, but there are some of the characters I don't care for, Peabody being one. There are some who feel they have their own idea of the characters and do not listen to them. I would follow Jonetta's suggestion and borrow one before you make a purchase. There are a few in the middle of he series, which is where I understand she started, where the characters voices are not done well.

message 222: by Michelle (last edited Jul 05, 2013 03:51PM) (new)

Michelle | 2653 comments Thanx Dawn. Any idea where i cant borrow one? Is there perhaps a lending thing like with kindle books lendable?
Unfortunately my corner of the world is far behind when it comes to library and latest trends. :-((

message 223: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Voices are one reason I don't do many audio books. I, too, have the character's voice in my head and the reader on the audio can ruin it for me. However, if it means getting to read/hear a book while getting some chores done, I'll do it. I'll definitely look for Susan Ericksen...thanks for that info, Dawn.

message 224: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I believe most libraries have them. If yours does not, Audible.com sometimes has them on sale. I think Jonetta also put up a thread for discount sites tat may include audio. There is also a group on Goodreads committed just to all things audiobook.

message 225: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2653 comments Thanx. I'll check it out

Most libraries that offer digital lending (eBooks) have the audiobooks. It's just a matter of how much their budgets can bear. They're all operated by Overdrive (some exceptions where 3M is piloting their solution with Penguin in NY and Cleveland). You'll have to download the software either on your desktop or listening device (MP3, iPod, iPad).

They offer two formats: WMA and MP3. If it's in WMA, you have to download that software on your desktop and then transfer it to your device. I hate this format because it invariably misses a part and requires re-downloading and formats incorrectly a lot of the time. I prefer the MP3 format, even though it will transfer onto iTunes from your desktop as if it's music. You simply go in and change the option from music to audiobook and it's perfect. And, it transfers to your iTunes library and then you can add it to your devices. With WMA, you cannot put it in your library; it can only do a direct transfer to your device.

This is probably more than what you were looking for but if you go this route, it's important to know.

Michelle | 2653 comments No thats fine. Only problems is I'm in South Africa. I'll just have to buy one. iTunes South Africa is also extremely limited with what they have in stock. With everything.
Well I'll just have to make sure its Susan reading

Thanx for the info I'm sure it will come in handy in future . I'm so clueless with most techy stuff I appreciate any help offered bout any thing

If it's in English, it's Susan. Sorry about the above as it pertains to the US library system (and maybe Canada).

message 232: by Sheri (new)

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments I just finished the book "High Noon" by Nora Roberts...Talk about a great book. Now I just started Reading "Tribute" by Nora Roberts. Sounds like it to could be a great book. Then once I read this one I think it is about time to start rereading in death

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15059 comments Mod
I'm jealous. Could use a little Nora right now:)

message 234: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Oh, me too, Jonetta. Too little time for everything I need, want, and have to read. Oh, I loved Tribute. I've just finished reading The Siren (The Original Sinners, #1) by Tiffany Reisz ...talk about a book cover throwing you a curve...this cover doesn't begin to touch the dark, disturbing, haunting story in this book. I have so many emotions and will have to read the rest of the series but...hard to explain..I both loved it and hated it and the characters but couldn't put it down.
Moving on...I'm reading some books for challenges & reviews now...Hard Evidence, Cowgirl Up and Ride, No Mercy and The Angel plus an ARC for review and I've started Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb again as I'm starting the series over.

message 235: by Sheri (new)

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments there is just something about Nora Roberts writing style that draws in me in...There are many authors that just there style of writing will throw me off

message 236: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Yes, there is. Nora is the best at spinning a good romance/suspense story. Love all her books writing as Nora Roberts & JD Robb.

message 237: by Susan (new)

Susan I am amazed at how fast she writes these amazing books. She could give lessons!!

message 238: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samswindle) | 23 comments But if she gave lessons, then she wouldn't have as much time to write!! Then we wouldn't have as much to read!! What a quandary???!!! LOL!

Actually, she's got an institute named after her and writing workshops are on the agenda. So far, no word that she's leading any.

message 241: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samswindle) | 23 comments I've heard that now that you mention it. I think I could attend all the workshops in the world and never write like NR. Although I would like to try my hand at children's literature. My graduate degree is in education and literacy and my first love is history. I'd love to combine the two into historical children's literature that kids would love to read and would learn from at the same time. One day!!

For buying the complete set (that way you can listen to them more then once) try ioffer.com I got the whole series on there (at that time 30 books) for around $50. Or you can try audible.com as they offer several different monthly plans and when you don't have credits to use you can always but the books at a deep discount. I use both of those and have had good service with each.

Thanks for that info, Silver. Always love to get books at a bargain! I'll look at ioffer.com...sounds like they offer some good deals.

Samantha (samswindle) | 23 comments Reading "Born in Ice" and "The Witness" by Sandra Brown.
How do you get those cute book cover pics????

message 247: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15059 comments Mod
See "add book/cover" right above the comment box, to the right? Just click that, search for the book and when it displays. Select "add." Make sure you change it from "link" to "cover" which are the options at the bottom of the pop up box.
