Do you watch the show Castle? If not, you should! Richard Castle is a fictitious character/writer and Nikki Heat is based on Det. Kate Beckett on the show. I have them as my profile icon. :)

You know, I watch very little television...almost none..but I like Castle when I do get a chance to see it. And now I realize why your avatar was so familiar to me, Quynh!

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Hehe. I loooooove Castle, just as much as I love In Death! :)

Michelle | 2651 comments So who is the real Richard castle writing the books?

message 305: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I don't think it's known for sure...do you know, Quynh? This is what I found about it:

Castle is a fictional author in a fictional world, with an official website to promote real books about Nikki Heat and Derrick Storm, by secret writers,[4] rumored to include Tom Straw and Brad Parks. [5] Actor Nathan Fillion plays the role for book tours and signs autographs as Castle.

A real mystery to solve???

message 306: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2651 comments I think it's brilliant! Tv show author turned real published books

I've actually never seen the show! Should I finish reading the books before I watch an episode? Also, is it a series type of show where I need to watch it from the beginning? That's usually why I don't end up watching something. I don't like to start in the middle. I'm liking Nikki Heat's character a lot so far so I'm sure I'd get a kick out of the show!!

message 310: by Susan (new)

Susan Well well worth Michelle.

message 312: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I can't seem to find any new authors / books that I enjoy.

Obviously my fave authors are NR & JDR, but I also like Kristin Hannah, Emily Giffen, Tess Gerritsen, and Patricia Briggs. I don't really have a fave genre.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

message 313: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Aiesha, it's good to start at the beginning. You can see the progression of the characters and plots. I marathoned the first 3 seasons in 2 weeks. It's now an addiction/obsession. Some of the things in the show happens in the book. After all, Castle follows Beckett around so he can write the books. Try out the first season! Beckett from season 1 reminds me quite a bit of Eve actually.

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I'm not sure who writes the Nikki Heat books actually. I've yet to read them myself ;)

Have you read the KGI series by Maya Banks? Romance/Suspense with a little more sex than JDR or do you like a bit of PNR...Nancy Gideon's By Moonlight series is PNR but also Romance/Suspense...the heroine is much like Eve..the guy is a shifter..In either series, be sure to start with book 1...especially the Moonlight books..same main characters in all books so you must read in order. KGI can be read out of order but don't recommend it.

I did, but it's said rumored so still don't know for sure. :)

message 318: by Cate (new)

Cate (catemb) | 76 comments I have just started 2 new books: "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoevsky and "Naked" by David Sedaris (the latter was recommended by a friend).
I love Dostoevsky and "Crime and Punishment" is one of my favorite books ever!

I am also currently reading "The Scottish Prisoner" by Diana Gabaldon but I am struggling a little. I adore the "Outlander" series and have read them all many times but I don't care much about Lord John... At least in this one Jamie has a predominant role!

For some reason, I haven't been able to get into the Outlander series. It seems my friends either love them or hate them but I just haven't been hooked by them.

I'm on the love side, even though I've only finished the first book. Maybe it's because I'm fond of those long, winding emotional sagas.

message 321: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I love a long emotional book too, J., but just haven't been sucked in enough to keep reading. I'll definitely give it another shot.

For the first book, it took me a while to get into it as well. The first 50 pages or so were hard and I almost gave up at the time but I am so glad I persevered! It only gets better and better from there.

message 330: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Thanks for that info Catherine. I think that's been my problem then. I like a book to hook me in the first few pages so I stop before 50 pages if I'm not feeling it. Maybe I'll have time to pick it back up this winter...some long cold days to read!

message 331: by Cate (new)

Cate (catemb) | 76 comments It is worth the try! As I said, I really didn't care for the first 50 or so pages... However, once it got going, I read the first 5 books (there are now 7 out) within a few weeks (1000 pages or so each... lol). When I re-read the first one, I realized that the first 50 pages were in fact full of important info so I enjoyed them. :)

Haha I remember those days too, walking around the library, no clue what author/book I should read next. How the times have changed.

message 342: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Yes! Exactly...I used to read a book and then just wander around pulling books off the shelf, flipping through them...Wow..how times have changed! Even with Amazon & ereaders, before GR's, I often just "hunted" around for my next read...now it's "Which one of all these good recommendations to I jump into next?"

message 343: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Indeed, now the choices are harder to pick what to start next!

It was only four years ago that I was reading one book a month and often had no idea what books I should be reading. Then I found the In Death series and Troubleshooters, which led me to Shelfari and Goodreads. Now, here I sit with 3,000 books on my shelf and struggle to keep up with what I say I want to read!!!!

message 345: by Sandra (last edited Aug 27, 2013 06:42AM) (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Lol Same here, Jonetta. I get so many good recommendations daily that I find myself just hopping straight into one of them instead of going back to my tbr shelf. Then, I find myself forgetting about books on that shelf and why I wanted to read them. There's got to be a better way of keeping up with them...organizing would be a good start for me. Just haven't taken the time to do it.

I've read quite a few S.E.P. books and I really enjoy them.

I am trying to read The Valley of Horses (Earth's Children, #2) by Jean M. Auel . I read The Clan of the Cave Bear and REALLY enjoyed it; I'm hoping that I'll enjoy the 2nd in the series just as much.

Julia, I made it through the first four books of Auel's series and loved them. She just took too long to get the fifth one out and I never got to it.

message 350: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 1576 comments Clan of the Cave Bear has been on my TBR list for about 2 yrs. I know 2 people who read it, 1 loved it the other hated it. I'll get to it one of these days.
