This rings true - changing your name is a big deal. And it's annoying (and sometimes dangerous) to have to identify yourself with an old name that doesn't fit.
It is very nerve-wracking to have to identify with a birth name that doesn't fit. I haven't had the funds to legally change my name yet, so I was very nervous the other day when I went for a job interview and I had to explain to my potential employer why if I were to work there I wanted a different name on my name tag than is on my Id. Luckily, it didn't seem to be a problem.
