This was a cute start to the year. I started reading it at 5am on New Years Day just before the alcohol wore off and the hangover kicked in.

This was good, maybe not as good as the previous books but still good.

There was so much sex, which got in the way of the storyline, which was good except for the parts which resembled daytime soap love triangle drama.

I totally agree with you! This series is one of my all-time favorites, but sometimes Auel let the loving get out of hand. The Valley of Horses remains my favorite book of all. Is this your first time reading the books?

I started this book quite apprehensively. I was ready to quit when it got to parts quite similar to Twilight, the whole just tell us already and the we should stay away from each other crap. But I pushed on through, to much delight.

I really liked the twists and turns the story took and it's ways of not giving so much away. Although I did predict a lot of things from the prologue.

Then much to my dismay after only a slight glimpse of a revelation the book finished and said "The next book in the Fallen series by Lauren Kate September 2010."

I WANTED TO STAB SOME ONE!!!

WHY THE HELL CAN'T PEOPLE JUST WRITE A NOVEL, A STAND ALONE NOVEL, THAT ENDS AT THE LAST PAGE WITH FULLY GLORIFYING CLOSURE? I DON'T WANT TO BUY 3 MORE BOOKS TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL 2012 FOR THE END OF THE FREAKING STORY. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO BUY A BOOK, READ IT, BE FINISHED WITH THAT STORY AD MOVE THE HELL ON TO SOMETHING ELSE!!!!

Yeah this is my first time reading the series, I am enjoying. But I'm finding that I have to read other stuff in between each book, otherwise I just cannot deal with the epicness of it all.

Hahahaha! That's why I generally avoid series :0) I have a feeling you don't like those "To Be Continued" episodes on TV either eh?

It's not so bad on TV, because at least you only have to wait a week or a night minimum, none of that huge years of waiting around kind of stuff.

It's kind of funny really, because I didn't mind waiting around for Harry Potter. Some things are just worth waiting for.

City of Bones (Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

Basically this is a retelling of Star Wars, as far as I can tell this far into the series.

Valentine is the baddy (similar to Darth Vader) he's nice until some creature kills his dad.

Joceleyn (Padme Amidala) is married to Valetine - she leaves him cause he's evil incarnate.

Clary (Princess Leia is her daughter and has grown up blind to everything. She is unaware of her origins etc. She thinks her dad is some dead army guy.

Jace (Luke Skywalker) is this awesome hot shadow hunter. He and Clary have the hots for each other. Bahahaha.

Little do they know a Star Wars twist is around the bend. Turns out they are brother and sister. LAME.

Simon (may possibly be Hans Solo eventually) he is in love with Clary and is her BFF.

Apart from being a rip off of Star Wars it was quite an enjoyable book to read.

It's packed with action and betrayals and all that awesome garbage they put into books these days; Vampires, Werewolves/Lycanthropes, Fairies, Angels, Witches, Warlocks, you name it it's in it.

I'm starting to feel like a dirty under-achiever. Everyone else is smashing through books at power speeds, so it seems. I feel like I need to put life on hold to catch up with all these damn freak readers!!

Aww, you shouldn't worry about keeping up with other people. I've been stuck on reading the same book for two weeks and I'm barely halfway. Life keeps getting in the way and you can't stop it. It's early in the year so don't worry, there's still plenty of time :)

It's because I decided to go back to college/tafe, for 8hrs a day and still go to work. All my spare time is just gone. It hurts me that I can't just dedicate a day in the middle of the week to a book these days, it makes me want to bawl and throw tantrums.
I loathe change.

Ok, so with most Young Adult books I've read post Twilight. I've been very cynical. I think I even said about one of the previous books that it was reminiscent of Star Wars (in parts and not entirely original - it's not, but she makes up for that with awesomeness, in this book). I didn't make that up.

Very, very clever writing Ms Clare. You had me, then you lost me, then you pulled me right back in - ripped my heart out, then stuffed it right back in with a soaring sensation of euphoria, I could not have possibly dreamed of.

I love you. This very second, you are my favourite. Well at least 2nd favourite, I don't think I'm ready to demote Harry.

Well people in all seriousness - this book was absolutely fabulous. It was full suspense and action, lies, betrayal and all that good plot building stuff.

I really loved how this one ended, I think I could even personally just say that I'll consider the series over. After finishing that I am satisfied, I don't need more - even though I know there is more to come. An extra book and a prequel series.

However the thing I hate most about this book - is the Stephanie Meyer quote on the cover. This book is better than anything she could ever have dreamed of. It's a shame the publishers felt praise from her on the cover would sell the book.

It exceeded any expectations I had for a Paranormal Romance genre book in this 'climate'.

Amen

Elise P (elisep726) | 21 comments #9 Persuasion by Jane Austen

Persuasion (Penguin Red Classics) by Jane Austen

This book started really slowly - I understand the first few chapters are 'establishing chapters' but they are boring as hell.

After almost quitting, I ploughed through and actually enjoyed the rest of the book. It was a very slow burn type romance, but satisfying all the same.

This was probably the only Jane Austen book, in which I haven't seen the screen adaptation first. Maybe that's why I actually finished it, because unlike the others I did not know the ending.

Anne Elliot is probably one of the nicest characters I've ever read, I'd personally invite her over for a pot of tea and a biscuit any time. I love that she is not superficial and I love her consistency.

Poor Anne being persuaded rather poorly from a parental figure in the beginning, I'm glad it all worked out nicely in the end.

Good ol' Captain Wentworth, almost as silly, luckily coming to his senses and realising his severe retardation and pride issues and resolving his estrangement to Anne and rekindling his little love fire.
