Dhestiny, you don't have to do the polls if you don't want to. I suck at the code stuff. I can start the polls, if someone wants to add the picture codes. To be honest, I'm trying to get someone to do it, because with my crazy schedule, I'll always be behind on it. And I'm a terrible procrastinator. Let's be honest.

I've never did a poll on Goodreads, but I am sure that I can figure it out. What kind of poll do you want Danielle and UniquelyMoi. I can make sure the pictures comes out right.

Arch, to answer your question. The goal is to have a new cover boy each month.

My suggestion was to have members nominate five pictures each month, and those can be posted in a poll. The members can vote on the picture they want. The winner is the cover boy for the next month. That was the idea anyway.

So basically, we can take the cover boy thread and post it there or make a new one for each month. I appreciate any and all suggestions.

The poll is pretty simple. You click on polls on the group site. You type in the choices, and I guess you would add the code for the pictures. You can set it for an expiration day, and select all to send it to all the group members.

I can't even begin to understand the coding other than photobucket. I'll try it today and see if it accepts PB codes.

Danielle, where are the pictures coming from?

I went and looked at polling, and while it 'appears' that it would take pb codes, I'm not sure. There were a couple different code possibilities listed.

The drawback to use PB is that from time to time (Like with the picture of the guy with the salad bowl), they go through and remove images. Perhaps the publisher had it tagged for some reason. Once PB removes it from their server, the image is no longer available where ever I posted it.

So,that said.... I still don't know if PB would work with the polling. I wonder if I started a group and added just a couple of guinnea pigs...errrr... friends... I might be able to test it that way.

I'm sorry to let you down, Danielle. I thought PB would be a sound way of doing it.

How do you get them? I know how to save them, but then I always uploaded to PhotoBucket and used their coding, which is different from the coding you mentioned. Once the photo is on my computer, where should I upload it to, and where then would I find the code?

UniquelyMoi, go to your profile and upload the pictures there, just like you have uploaded your icon picture. I'm not sure as to how many pictures Goodreads will allow a person to upload. I guess when a person get to the max, Goodreads will send them a message letting them know that they can't upload anymore picture, unless they delete some.

As for codes, you will not need codes. I can walk you through the steps in how to add a picture to a reply. If you want to add it to a poll, I'll see if it'll let you do the same thing.

OOooh, ok. So GoodReads is the host rather than PhotoBucket. That should be safer. That way PB can't remove the images.

I know when I try to save them from here, it doesn't give a code, just the name of the picture. They would still have to be uploaded to the host, in this case Good Reads.

Arch, when I did a mock poll last night, I didn't notice a preview option, but I was more concerned with understanding the codes.

I have gone to my private group and tested the poll. The image is easy to add to the poll. All you have to do is save an image to your hard drive and upload it to the poll. There's an upload button there. So no html codes.

To the right of the group, click on poll and create a poll. You will see how the page is set up.

So, UniquelyMoi, I can't wait to see what you come up with for the poll. :)

I'll do a future one. On what subject, I don't know.

We can do it based on the ones that get the most nominations, then pick the five most nominated, and do the poll based on those. Does that make sense?

How many men will the voters have to chose from in the poll? And do the members have to only chose from the pictures of the men already in our Who Should Be Our Cover Guy thread or can they add another picture, if they want to choose a different person?

The deadline is Sunday what? Morning, Noon, Night? or Monday 12 a.m.? We all don't live in the same time zone?

Why am I asking all these questions? I want to do an attenion thread to get people to pick a man for the poll.

The pictures have to be in the Cover Boy thread which is why a few days ago I told them to post any additional pictures they wanted included so they could be voted on.

Danielle had the idea to give them a choice of 5. So the top 5 pictures will be the ones included in the offical poll.

As far as I was concerned, time was up for posting more pictures but if it helps give us more choices, I'm ok with that having more added to that thread, too.

I'm not trying to be demanding, just trying to make sure I have enough time to play with the polling thing, uploading the actual pictures, etc, so it turns out right.

I was under the impression, though I may be totally wrong, that this would be permanent. I'm worried that we won't have enough pictures to rotate monthly. Maybe change it quarterly? What do you think, Arch?

I think quarterly is good. See what Danielle says.

I like the picture that we already have for the group. It shows what the group is about.

But, lets see what Danielle say. She might want it monthly and we can do that, but we will have to see what date we will change the picture. How many days a picture will stay up for.

Early on I asked how long to leave them up before we vote and Danielle said mid Feb, which is why I'm setting the poll for Feb 15. I think monthly is too much, quarterly is better - or even biannually.

I like the one we already have, also.

If the poll starts on February 15th, when will the poll close and when will the picture be changed?

I would think the poll will last a week, and the picture changed on March 1st. That's my take on it, but it's all open to discussion.

I was/am more worried about getting the poll to look and work right than I was about the details, sorry.

Just tonight I got a poll from someone and there were no images, only links. Even within the poll itself which means if you click on a link to see the image, you're voting for an image without ever seeing it. That is the kind of mistake I've been worried about, but with your help I'll get through it and will know how to do it in the future.
