Lobstergirl Can we make it easier to edit authors? Let's say I add a translator and an introduction-writer, then I notice a typo. I can't edit this simply. I have to delete the author and begin again. E.g. - I noticed that I typed "revise" instead of "revised" after Ludmilla Terkevich and I'd like to edit that without deleting her.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Lobster Girl I agree with you, but this is probably better added to the Feedback Group rather than the Librarians group

It has been previously brought up there, but Otis says the change is difficult to implement.

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments A quick and dirty fix for these issues is to use the up/down arrows to move the author up to the primary author position, at which time the description field becomes editable.
Then you save it, open it back up for editing, and use the arrow buttons to move the person back down to their rightful spot on the list.
Takes a few minutes, but can be worth it.

On a different note, can I ask what the term (Revise[d:] and Abridged Translation) is supposed to be for the book? Wouldn't that be covered by the term 'editor'?

If so, we generally don't enter the 'working' editors (or book designers or cover artists or typsetters, etc.) unless they are the cover as Editor of the volume.

Just wondering...

Thanks. That's a good, if dirty solution.

I think "Revised and Abridged Translation" is slightly different from "Editor" because it means she took the previous translator's translation and revised it and shortened it. This book doesn't have an editor in the normal sense, it has a translator, an introduction writer, and then a person who revised the translation. Sorry to be so wordy....

Ralph Gallagher | 200 comments I think it deletes itself, but I'm not positive.

Sandra | 31414 comments That's very weird. I went and had a look at the S. November author page, tried deleting it, (I think I was successful?), came back here and the original post has disappeared.

Very freaky. I would have assumed that the post should have stayed and the link been disabled, but what do I know?

M— | 60 comments Holy cow. I have accidentally deleted my message just before Ralph's #6. Um. Oops.

My message had been:

What should be done with empty author pages? I just finished reattribulating materials under the profile "S. November" to the profile "Sharyn November". As Sharyn November is a Goodreads Author, I could not merge the two profiles, and, while editing the individual materials does move them to the correct profile, this leaves the S. November profile behind, just now empty of content.

It seems wrong to leave the empty page like that. Can it be deleted? Will it be deleted automatically at the next caching cycle? Or is it okay empty as is?

Thanks for your advice, Ralph!

Sandra | 31414 comments No worries M, you had me worried though. I thought I'd done something really weird. Damn, it looks as though the S.November page is still there. Hopefully, Ralphs' right.
