I tried my best yesterday to ignore all the group emails that I was getting. I personally don't feel that group emails should be sent out unless the head moderator or a fellow moderator, after discussing an issue with the head moderator should send a group email out.

If people are participating on your group on a certain subject, must a group email be sent out to let people on your group know what's going on? Some people join groups and are lurkers.

I feel that if a moderator wants to get in touch with the lurkers, then email them personally.

I had to let two moderators know that they were sending out too much emails yesterday. I've told them that they can drive people away from their group like that. That's how I strongly feel. People will get tired of getting those emails. After a while they become tiresome and annoying. No moderator needs to seen out a group message every 30 minutes to an hour and about the same subject. Members don't need to know in email, when a member joined a book discussion, etc. That's obvious, when people check out new threads.

One of the moderator asked me if she shouldn't send out so many broadcasts and I've told her no she shouldn't.

The other moderator gotten offended by my friendly email and told me that I could leave her group, if I didn't like the emails, so I did.

I'm a firm believer in, I don't need to be in a group. A group needs people.

Chaeya | 454 comments I don't like group e-mails. I have one group that drives me batty because they'll send out like ten emails and I delete every one of them. I've begun deleting myself from certain writer's groups because it makes me feel the writers are too desperate to be heard. I'm so over it. A site consisting of 99% writers all screaming to be heard isn't really going to put you in any line for success to me.

A lot of group moderators send out email, whenever they start a new thread about something. That's not needed, unless it's important.

People knows how to come to a group they are on and see new threads or replies. Some people still get emails that will let them know when a certain thread they are following have new replies. The email doesn't send every reply, only a few, but when the person comes to that group, they can see all the new replies.

We have lurkers on here. I don't feel as a moderator that I need to send out emails to the group, to let the lurkers know that we have new topics or even the regulars know that so and so has participated in something.

new_user I agree, Arch. Continuous emails are annoying more often than not. It's just not realistic knowing that most of us are busy and don't need an extra chore in our lives. Reading through and deleting all those emails is one of them, and it would be common courtesy for a group moderator to realize this. I'm glad I haven't experienced this here on GR.

Every group that sends out nonstop emails, I will leave. I don't have time for all those emails. I know how to go to every group that I am on and read the new threads/replies. If I want to participate, I will. If not, I won't.

Jenn, do you have your Goodreads messages checked before you open them?

yeah, I was just kidding because all my friends nag me about deleting the things they send like videos and pictures from Lord knows where. I also never accept things from facebook like farmville crap or smiles or join groups or become fans of stuff.

The groups that I were on, were groups about books. I don't see why the moderators would send out messages. People are participating on the groups.

I took so much and then I had to say stop.

I know we have lurkers on here and I know that none of the moderators would send out messages to the group. Unless one day, a message has to be sent, but until then, we will not fill your message box with messages about topics, etc.
