For those who like these themes, why do you like it?
What are some good books with this theme.
Again, no judgments! It's just fiction. Not real life.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I like this theme because the captive is more at the mercy of the captor. There's just something I enjoy about that. The vulnerability, the Alpha Male at his finest.

But then, I'm ok with some not too kinky bondage stuff, too. *blushes and hides head in shame*

Also the humor that can come from this is really something.

i like this theme! Yes, I admit it! I don't know why I do but I do. Some of the novels I think qualify for this are as follows
The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen E Woodiwiss
Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey
Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey
Untouched by Anna Campbell
Lone Rider by Lauren Bach
Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare
Perfect by Judith McNaught
Cold As Ice by Anne Stuart

Bekah (bekah317) | 93 comments I love it too..i like the vulnerability factor as well..but it forces them to be together constantly. YOu know there won't be much time spent apart.. in regards to this theme, I also love it when the heroine escapes...only to be brought back again.

Royal Seduction by Jennifer Blake is one of my favs. its very yummy!

Ice Blue by Anne Stuart
Ice Storm by Anne Stuart
Smoke Screen: A Novel by Sandra Brown
Play Dirty by Sandra Brown
The Hostage by Susan Wiggs
Enslaved by Virginia Henley
Thief of Hearts by Teresa Medeiros
Velvet Angel by Jude Deveraux

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Danielle, you always come up with the best threads and questions, getting us to talk about things we might be embarrassed to ask outselves. Thank you and thank you ladies for all the book recommends!

Bekah (bekah317) | 93 comments Oooh, Velvet Angel is good too!

message 10: by new_user (last edited Feb 02, 2010 08:12PM) (new)

new_user Good topic! Don't be embarrassed, UM, I'm right there with you. ;)

I think part of it is the tension that's generated when the reader is not sure whether or not the hero is a danger or not, and the fact she's in his power is very compelling. Here are some really good ones with this theme:

Taken with the Enemy by Tia Fanning Claiming the Courtesan by Anna Campbell Once a Wolf (Historical Werewolf, #2) by Susan Krinard Sea Lord (Children of the Sea, #3) by Virginia Kantra

They are, from left to right, romantic suspense, historical romance, paranormal historical romance, and paranormal romance. They are all definitely captive/kidnap.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Another one is On a Highland Shore. The captive scene is towards the end and involves many women taken at once.

Thanks for joining this group and participating, ladies. I don't feel so weird with my taste for edgy, dangerous, scary heroes now!

I like the edge of danger in my romance. The unpredictability factor, as NU said. It takes me out of my mundane life and into an exciting world. There is an edge of untamed passion there, with this storyline. I love that intense, fiery, edge of your seat feeling with that kind of romance. Probably why I like the stalkerific heroes too.

Ooh. Sounds great. I will have to hit the ubs this weekend to find it. Thanks, NU!

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user Np! :)

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) I remembered a couple of highlander ones:

The Witch and the Warrior by Karyn Monk. The hero kidnaps the heroine who is reported to be a witch, in order to cure his dying son and claims he'll kill her if she fails.

Laird of the Mist by Paula Quinn. Hero kidnaps the heroine who is his arch-enemy's niece.

I'm sure there are many medieval ones with this theme, but my mind is stuck right now.

message 21: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Lol, I feel so at home here. :D I would normally be embarrassed to admit this as well, but I love the kidnap/captive/bondage theme too. The only problem is that when I'm reading it, I want to actually BE the heroine in distress, which can get a bit frustrating. Does anyone else feel this way too, or am I just weird?!?

I haven't had time to go through every thread yet, but I haven't seen this mentioned... has anyone read The Story of O? It might be a little intense for some, but I rather enjoyed it. :)

What about the heroine kidnapping the hero? Has anyone read a book like this?

You're not alone, Holly. I think I like the kind of un-PC storylines, just to be contrary. :)

Arch, I have read a few of these:

The Barefoot Princess and the story in
One Night With a Rogue by Christina Dodd have this theme.

I'll rack my brain and come up with more.

Thank you Danielle.

It would be nice to see the kidnapping role changed.

You already have a original fiction for bad boy stories. Should the stories be under there?

In the books that you all have read. Why was the heroine or hero captured or kidnapped?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Arch wrote: "In the books that you all have read. Why was the heroine or hero captured or kidnapped?"

***Spoiler***In On a Highland Shore, the Scottish Highland shores were being attacked by a ruthless Norseman/Viking, Nor Thorkelson. He had launched attack after attack reducing the numbers of Highlanders. One night, while many of the Highlander men were away, he went ashore with his men and took as many women as he could hostage from this village/town/castle. He got quite a few actually, and the older ones he and his men raped and slaughtered. Anyway, so he took dozens (if I recall right) of women to his 'lair' where the hero, who had devised a brilliant plan, went and rescued them.***END SPOILERS***

That's a spoiler for Taken by the Enemy. But for Claimed by the Courtesan, he wants her. In Once a Wolf, it's revenge. In Sea Lord, he needs her.
