What is the scariest book that you ever read?

message 3: by Val (new)

Val (goodreadscomvalora_ixchel) | 7 comments An excellent book, fast read and very scary...

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

The movie was actually pretty scary. I remember the first time I watched. I didn't sleep that night, granted that was at least 15 years ago (or so).

message 5: by Val (new)

Val (goodreadscomvalora_ixchel) | 7 comments Read the book. Trust me, it's good. I had to sleep with my bathroom light on after I was done. I was okay the next day, but every little bump or noise just about made me jump out of my skin.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

That sounds like true talent! It will be added to my TBR never ending pile.

message 7: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pfaff (kl_pfaff) I've always wanted to read The Exorcist too. I just added it to my library list.

message 8: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 130 comments I have also wanted to read The Exorcist. This is one of those genres that is out of my comfort zone.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

This genre is also out of my comfort zone, I'm not a big scary movie person as well. I only have books TBR on my list for horror. This year I'll have to add a few read books.

message 10: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments I love watching horror movies (which no one ever takes me to see, so I don't see very many), but I don't read a lot of horror-based books. I would like to read and see The Exorcist though.

message 11: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) I want to red some horror books.recommendations, anyone?

message 12: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments The only ones I've got are the ones on here, sorry.

message 13: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 86 comments I would read horror, but I doubt it would have any effect on me. :\ Has anyone seen The Ring?

message 14: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments ??? Never heard of it.

message 15: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 86 comments BEST HORROR MOVIE OF ALL TIME

message 16: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments LOL, I'll have to look it up then. I like watching Horror movies, but no one else likes to so I never get to see most of them. Anyone seen The Happening? Would it be considered horror?

message 17: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 86 comments Awww!

message 18: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 86 comments And no, sorry!

message 19: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments Okay, just making sure. My mom thinks it is, and it sorta creeps me out, so in my perspective, it's horror! :)

message 20: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 03, 2010 08:42PM) (new)

Wow, The Ring was def a horror. I remember watching it the first time. Yup, I think I drove to my friends for a slumber party. LOL! Good times. My friend dragged me to the movies this summer to Watch Drag me to Hell. All the jump spots were obivious, however, I was (I think) the only jumper/screamer in the joint. I slept fine. What was up with the fixation on that womans mouth. I can't believe she didn't learn to keep her trap closed!!

message 21: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pfaff (kl_pfaff) I loved Let the Right One In!

message 22: by Nida (new)

Nida (thaigurl) | 6 comments Oh, I started to read Salem's Lot and got really freaked out by it! I never did finish it, though. I should give it another try.

message 23: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pfaff (kl_pfaff) Oh! I didn't even know that there was another book that was in English! I'm going to have to get that one!

I just finished Salem's Lot last week. It definitely had its chilling moments, that's for sure.

message 24: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** I love the horro movies too...I don't think I have actually read a horror book though . I think once I get a few of the others books on my list done I will read a horror book and see how that goes for me. I think I am going to read shutter island. I have been told it's a great book.

message 25: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 130 comments Actually, I did read Stephen King for a while. Then I read a short story compilation of Dean Koontz's which totally creeped me out, and I haven't read a horror movie since then.

message 26: by Peanut (new)

Peanut | 25 comments I started to read a Stephen King but I decided not to finish, Which I don't do too often, but decided it was for the best.

message 27: by Cathrine (new)

Cathrine (cathrine_bock) I've never read much horror, but I really would like to. I just bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I don't think that's considered horror. ;) I'm definitely adding Let the Right One In to my TBR list since I loved the movie. Thanks for the recommendation!

message 28: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Dracula! it's hard at first, and requires a lot of work to wade thru it, but it is so worth it!

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Misery!

message 30: by Denise (new)

Denise (redreader) | 34 comments I just picked up some horror today- This is my true love genre! I have been away for ahile and can't say I have had a book that really scared me...so this is my challenge for myself and this group. I will find one to report as a true scare! (at least for me)

message 31: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) [image error] - I read this last week, and while not truly scary through out, had me up late one night totally creeped out. Both the creature aspect and the human monster aspect were scary!

message 32: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** I am gunna have to see if my mom has that Stephen King Book (Under The Dome). He is my mom's fav author and she has almost all his books!!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

i want to get that one sooooo bad! I ♥ Stephen King!!!

message 34: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Me too - I don't think there is anything I haven't read. I don't love it all - but it's all so compulsively readable, and then the ones like The Stand, Bag of Bones, Lisey's Story, and Duma Key - all such solidly amazing, wonderful stories...you cannot miss any King. (oh, and his article on Pop Culture in Entertainment Weekly should be written in stone and be required reading for all Americans...I'm just saying.)

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never read anything by King.

message 36: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 86 comments Nor have I, but I really want to!

message 37: by Pandy (new)

Pandy I want to read more by King - so far, I have only read Misery, The Shining, (both of which I love) and Pet Sematary.

message 38: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) has any of you read Violin by Anne Rice ?

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

i am reading Misery but i own Misery, IT, Thinner, Pet Sematary, The Dark Half and Needful Things.

message 40: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** There are a few books I want to read by Dea Koontz too. I haven't read any of his yet but I have heard nothing but good things about his books and he has been rated as one of the best horror autors along with Stephen King.

message 41: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pfaff (kl_pfaff) I have On Writing, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I am definitely excited about it though. I got it on a very good recommendation.

Was I the only one that didn't think The Exorcist was that great? I just finished it last night.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Kristen wrote: "Was I the only one that didn't think The Exorcist was..."

I have not gotten to this book yet.

message 43: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) i didnt think of it as horror, i mean, it was disturbing but more like scifi

message 44: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Elyssa - if you've never read Stephen King, start with The Stand or The Eyes of the Dragon...then if you like, move on to the others. There are some solidly horror genre that I don't love, but the 70's and 80's were very different decades. :) And hey, for your hefty page-reading goal, The Stand is going to get you about 1/10 done by itself! it is 1000+ pages, and fabulous all the way through!

message 45: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** I have heard really good things about the Stand and think my mom has it. Might have to borrow it in the summer from her!

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

i want to read that.

the movie of let the right one in sucked (no pun intended). it was slow and boring. i suppose i should read the book.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess the stand would knock out some pages... I heard over the dome was pretty intense as well.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

I picked up The Stand yesterday. I'll you know what I think of my first King novel once I get a few other half finished books out of the way.

message 50: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Jo wrote: "I wouldn't say that Under the Dome was horror but yeah it was pretty intense. I like that it was such a huge book and it never really dragged a lot. I was expecting it to be tough to get through"

I don't think most of what King has written in the past 10 years is really "horror". I think he's prolific enough he's managed to make his own genre of suspense/thrill/good vs. evil thing. He's a great writer.
