Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
Too much Pride. Definitely too much Prejudice. Not enough Zombies.
For those who have read, and enjoyed "Pride and Prejudice" and thought "needs a few Zombies" here is the book for you. As those who read "Pride and Prejudice" and thought "this a tedious love story that belabours the point" you were correct. Adding Zombies, while providing the occasional comedic relief, does nothing to make this Jane Austen classic less tedious and belaboured. It's sensibilities are droll, overrought and pretensious. The cover claims that "Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literatureinto somethin you'd actually want to read." It was wrong, at least for this reader.
The core story of "Pride and Prejudice" is left in tact. All of the major story beats are hit and a few Zombies are thrown in here and there for effect. Ninjas are also thrown in, as practice of the deadly arts is a virtue in this rewrite of the famed literary work. Cute gimmick, but I'll stick occasional Jane Austen movie remake. Clueless will do.
Next Up: Eragon by Christopher Paolini On Deck: The Colorado Kid by Stephen King
The List: 1. "Last Words" by George Carlin (3 Stars) 2. "FlashForward" by Robert J. Sawyer (3 Stars) 3. "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold (3 Stars) 4. "The View From the Bridge" by Nicholas Meyers (3 Stars) 5. "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith (3 Stars)
