What's good and why?

message 2: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Rose (amandarose) | 11 comments ok i'll list my favs
Night huntress series by jeaniene frost. Great stories and amazing characters.

Black dagger brotherhood by JR Ward. love how she writes about a war between two separate groups that join in certain parts of the book. and the men are to die for.

Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton. Really good paranormal series... but can get a bit aggravating at times.

dark elves series by Jet Mykles - if you think Anita has too much sex DO NOT READ THESE!!!

ummm i can go on forever with these lol

message 3: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) Is dark elves worst than Anita? Can you fit more than 8-10 people in a bed?

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Rose (amandarose) | 11 comments worst? what do you mean by that? What don't you like about Anita? I'm just trying to get a feel for the books you like

message 5: by Heather (last edited Feb 09, 2010 10:24PM) (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) I was okay with the sex in it at first, but then it got to where it'd be 4 chapters of one sex scene. That's a bit much. When it starts taking over the plot (which, i get it's integrated because of circumstances within the book) it gets to be too much. 2-5 pages then move on. 10 at the most. Or, just disperse the scenes throughout the book at appropriate intervals. When words like erotica are used to describe a book I generally pass it by. Although, Hamilton finds a bit more of a balance in the last few that she lacked for a while there. I fell in love with the characters and that's what kept me interested. If I hadn't been invested in it, I probably would have been scared away. But, that's just me. I use to only read historical non-fiction and classics so sex scenes in books are new to me. I'm still easing into it. =)

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Rose (amandarose) | 11 comments lol well Anita is definitely not an ease your way into the erotica world lol. I'm a big fan of erotica but I think you have to be able to keep an open mind about it. Anita's sex life is absolutely necessary for the story line IMO It's what shapes her relationships to those men we all love so dearly. Eh ok i'll get off my soap box lol. Sorry if i seem a bit over the top about these books it's just that they give people fair warning on how these books go.

message 7: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I highly, HIGHLY recommend Meljean Brook's paranormal Guardian series. Its an epic series that deals with good vs. evil, heaven vs. Hell, demons vs. Guardians & vampires. This is an intense series that is very complex but soooooooo incredibly worth it. Brook's voice is amazing and the romance is uber passionate and insanely hot.

One warning though, due to the high complexities, you MUST read this series in order.

I've heard a lot about this series, Amanda, I currently have all the books in my TBR. Must start this one soon. ;)

Amanda Rose (amandarose) | 11 comments oh night huntress is great!!! if you can read just one of those books without falling in love with the characters then i don't know what to tell you lol.

message 10: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (readsbydanig) | 20 comments ANITA BLAKE ALL THE WAY!! I looooove this series and I agree with other people saying that she losses it in te middle of the series and then it starts to pick up.. The sex scenes are very... Hmmm.. Interesting!! Not something I would recommend reading at work (even though I did, well at least it kept a smile on my face.. Haha)

Book Huntress (bookhuntress) | 30 comments I've heard really good things about the Night Huntress series

BDB series - OH YEAH

Anita - absolutely but see above as I ditto Amanda and everythign else

Merry Gentry series - LKH's other series is great

Guardian series is a new one, I will look into it as it sounds great.

message 13: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I highly recommend Night Huntress series too! And one of my all time fav's is Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series!! BDB of course is awesome! I am also a fan of P.C. Cast's House of Night series, it's YA and it's another that you either love or hate, but I really like it personally. I know there are others but for some reason I'm drawing a blank at the moment... *hangs head in shame again*

message 14: by Lauren (new)

Lauren you know i still haven't read the night Huntress yet. damn i have to get on that.

most of mine that i highly recommend are ones i have listed already as my favorites in the other thread. so i will pick these:

the highlander series from Karen Marie Moning oh my god! i can't even say more then that.

Also i really enjoy dark hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon if you love mythology (cause i love it)
then this is for you. tortured souls/ ridiculous punishments from gods and goddesses. hot ass kicking men! and also girls that kick ass too! Sherrilyn makes it fun too cause i laugh a lot in them.

message 15: by Book Huntress (new)

Book Huntress (bookhuntress) | 30 comments crap, OK I am really torn about these topics as I love to get new ideas but AHHHHHHH I don't know what to do, my TBR list has just gotten SO long and now I have to go to the library.... I might have to take some vacation time to read everything!!! LOL

message 16: by Lauren (new)

Lauren hahaha Jennifer if it makes you feel any better
i have 1818 books on the to-read list...

message 17: by Christie (new)

Christie (cibarra)

The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning is one of my favorites. The first book is Darkfever.

Patricia Briggs is awesome. Her Mercedes Thompson series is one of my faves and the Alpha & Omega series is good too. She creates such likeable characters. I can't get enough of her books.

The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost is fantastic. I LOVE Bones! :)

Richelle Mead's Succubus and Dark Swan series are both good. The author has a fun sense of humor and it really comes through in her books.

message 18: by Angela (new)

Angela Heather wrote: "Is dark elves worst than Anita? Can you fit more than 8-10 people in a bed?"

HAHAHAHAHAHA I love the Anita Blake series but that response was just awesome! :)

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm also a fan of the Anita Blake series but here are a few recommendations for some other really good series.

Kimberly Frost's Southern Witch Series is great, a 2 book series so far and so funny, she is definately a new author to put on your radar.

Also Nicole Peeler's Jane True series is another great up and coming author, the series currently has 1 book out with another coming soon, it's a great mix of Urban Fantasy with a little bit of romance tossed in for good measure.

message 20: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Garrison Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dark-Hunter.

I have found this to be my favorite series so far, I love how Kenyon has a mixter of Gods, Shape-shifters, humans, demons and vampires. so, you get something different in each book.

message 21: by Lydia (new)

Lydia | 24 comments I agrees with Kristi on the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. LOVE this series and can't wait for the last book. Barron's is delicious.

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. Good twists and great dynamics between characters.

Of course, The Sookie Stackhouse series. Eric alone makes this series and he is so yummy.

On a different note, The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins is awesome. Great mixture of struggle, humor and romance.

message 22: by Christie (new)

Christie (cibarra) Lydia, I love the Hunger Games! I can't wait for the third book!!

message 23: by Lydia (new)

Lydia | 24 comments Me too Christie.

message 24: by Bookworms (new)

Bookworms | 43 comments Anita Blake is very good, I love this series and the sex, well, very interesting and necessary for her crazy life I think.

Night Huntress series is very good, too. Bones and Cat together - jummy :-)

Midnight Breed series from Lara Adrian is very good, too.

And the Black Dagger series, but here I have problem with some books, I don't think that all of them are very good.

message 25: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 14, 2010 07:46PM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I see a lot that I love, but I did not see my tied favorite PNR series with the BDB:
Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole. IMO, this series is brilliant. I'd also recommend the Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl, and Dirk and Steele by Marjorie Liu, and Rae Lori has a great start to her series with Kiss of Ashen Twilight.

That is an awesome series. I can't wait for the new release in July. I can't believe there's only two more full length novels before it's over!

I agree that it's best to read them in order too. The first book, Demon Angel, isn't everyone's favorite (I really liked it though) but it adds so much to the world she builds.

message 32: by Kim (new)

Kim | 0 comments Some of my favs are as follows
Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine
Dark Hunters/Dream Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton

message 34: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 18 comments I love most, if not all, the series listed so far, so I'll list a couple that I didn't see posted just yet.

The Breed Series by Lora Leigh (Warning: VERY Erotic although they are paranormal romance so if highly sexual scenes isn't your thing, don't read them)

The Dark Swan Series by Richelle Mead

Cassandra Palmer and Dorina Basarab Series by Karen Chance (I haven't read DB, but they are on my list, and Cassie is good, although I have some issues with her. Very good reads though!)

The League Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon

June | 1 comments Hi I am new to this group dont normally have much time to comment but on leave this week. Reading the Rachel Vincent series been trying to read for a while, so far I am enjoying it. Thanks for info re authors I know many of them but there are a number I did not know

message 36: by Britski (new)

Britski | 14 comments I am not exactly sure where to post this. I have it posted in another group as well, but I was hoping some of you might have reading suggestions.
One of the first series I read that got me hooked to PNR was the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. It is a YA series and I was hoping there was something similar in an adult series. Any suggestions?

I love the whole love triangle, wiccan, turmoil, suspense of the series.

Thank you, Brit

The Romance Reviews (Carole) (The_Romance_Reviews) | 6 comments Love Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series. It's now on Book #6! And we're having TWO GIVEAWAYS!!! One international, one for US Residents only. Come and join!

Archer | 205 comments OK didn't see these added to the list..

I'd say this are more story and character building than anything else.. I think that none of these series holds sex to be that focal point of the story..

Carrie Vaughn Kitty Norville Series and Patrica Briggs Mercedes Thompson series alsp the Weather Warder Series by Rachell Caine

Here are the first books in each series..

Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, #1) by Carrie Vaughn Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine

message 39: by Lura (new)

Lura (luraj2612) | 18 comments Lots of series I can recommend... I think I'll start off with the YA ones, since those seem to be my current obsession.

Soul Screamers (PNR/UF) - Rachel Vincent My Soul to Lose

Evernight (PNR) - Claudia Gray Evernight

Darkest Powers (PNR/UF) - Kelley Armstrong The Summoning

Morganville Vampires (UF) - Rachel Caine Glass Houses

Now for the more adult series...

Carpathian (Dark) (PNR) - Christine Feehan Dark Prince

Dark Hunters (PNR) - Sherrilyn Kenyon Fantasy Lover

Dream Hunters (Same universe as Dark Hunters series; often listed with the other.) (PNR) - Sherrilyn Kenyon The Dream-Hunter

Demonica (PNR) - Larissa Ione Pleasure Unbound

Accidental Friends (PNR) - Dakota Cassidy The Accidental Werewolf

I think that's enough for now. I'll likely add more later.

Oh! One more. This one's not out yet, but I'm supper excited about it!
Indigo Court (UF) - Yasmine Galenorn Night Myst

The Romance Reviews (Carole) (The_Romance_Reviews) | 6 comments JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I just started the first book and it's a great start to what I hope would be a wonderful series. (I've heard a lot of different opinions that I don't know what to believe.)

Agofroggy | 5 comments Amy Lane Little Goddess Series is definately my favorite Anita Blake fans will definately want to read this seriesVulnerable
Wounded
Bound
Rampant

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 405 comments Looks like a lot of the books I love are already up there, but one that hasn't been mentioned is the series by Shelley Laurenston, if you like your heroines slightly crazy (okay a lot crazy) and kick ass and you heroes insufferably arrogant and adorable then the Pack and Dragon series are for you!

Also Kresley Cole, Ilona Andrews and J R Ward are definately ones to look up!
