Phil | 11837 comments My latest B&N purchase arrived today. Can't start watching it until my son is asleep, but it's queued up and ready to go.

Any other Carlin fans in TC?

Any favorite bit you think I should watch first? Usually I'll search out his bit on religion, or maybe baseball vs. football.

The man was an absolute genius regarding observation of the human species. I never had the opportunity to see him live, and will probably regret that as long as I live.

Félix (habitseven) I do not. It's all good, as far I'm concerned.

Here!

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I like him, but I don't seek him out. Maybe I'll look for this one at the library. Thanks for the tip.

So-so. I prefer Cheech & Chong.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I like him, but I've heard enough that I don't have a need to seek him out.
I like "Icebox Man," and the "Is it meat, or is it cake?" bit. :)

So you're saying you prefer the older, younger Carlin to the newer, older Carlin? Hehe.

Lori Aw Carlin was genius. Just last night, I forget why, Richard was saying "handicapable" - that's the new PC word for handicapped - and how Carlin would have a ball with that.

My favorites are football vs baseball, and Stuff. His last concert was great.

Rannie I've reached the age where my older generation is passing on and I'm left with their "stuff." Some of it is very nice "stuff," some of it I always thought I'd want. But you know, my kids are grown and I no longer have to care for the old folks, so I'd really like to travel. But if I travel, I'll have to worry about all that "stuff" at home. Thank you George Carlin, for telling me about "stuff." I can own it, or I can let it own me. I'm giving most of it to the kids. And, of course, Carlin had another name for "stuff."

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Ditto King D..... sums Carlin up perfectly..... (and that coming from and cold hearted NE soul, go figure)

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Carlin did get a lot bitter towards the end, but he was still funny. A lot of his riffs on Complaints and Grievances, recorded 2 months after 9/11, were hilarious and insightful; Carlin was well-aware we were heading towards a lot of flag-waving, falsely patriotic nonsense, and he was right.

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Oh I am not saying he wasn't very insightful and politically/socially astute, he was amazing (and you are so right after 9/11 a perfect example) ..... but as his delivery became so angry and bitter it became less funny commentary..... and more like ranting..... Still superbly relevant just not really what i would call funny as much.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I agree, old Carlin was so bitter, he wasn't funny anymore. I couldn't get through Brain Droppings.
