Fire and Ice by Anne Stuart.

message 102: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments I just finished Delicious (Wicked Lovers, #3) by Shayla Black which was good, but the hero was a prick through most of the book.

message 103: by SheLove2Read (new)

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I'm reading Dangerous Highlander but I'm not really feeling it. I'll give it a few more chapters to improve but if it continues the way it is, will be a DNF for me

message 104: by Alycia (new)

Alycia One of the books I am currently reading where the hero, Royce Westmoreland is definitely a dangerous bad boy (he did scare me some) was A Kingdom of Dreams (Westmoreland, #1) by Judith McNaught . I am a little over half way through this book, it is very, very good and I definitely recommend it! :)

message 105: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm reading Heart of Darkness. The first two stories were okay. I'm hoping the third is good but the description at the back of the book sounds awful.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments I am reading Cry No More, not sure if it has a bad boy in it, but it looks like it might.

Danielle ~ I finished this one and just loved it. Books rarely make me cry, but this one did.

Yeah, a bad boy! But one of the best bad boys ever!

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments You are right Pamela, if only we all couldn't find our own Diaz.

message 112: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 151 comments I'm still working on Lover Eternal. I just don't seem to reading as fast as I used too for some reason.

Darcy, I'm so glad you loved it.

Michelle, you sound you have reader's block. I suggest a palate cleanser. Find the shortest book in your pile, with the simplest writing style. That will sometimes get you out of your rut. Or just watch some good tv for a night.

YW, Michelle. I hate the reading block!

message 116: by Sans (new)

Sans I'm re-reading the BDB book for Lover Mine's release in April (currently 2/3 of the way through Lover Awakened) and starting Wild Instinct by Sarah McCarty.

message 117: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished Heart of Darkness, the stories by Showalter and Shayne were okay but the one by Krinard was bad. I'm now reading Highland Vow, which I'm really enjoying.

message 118: by SheLove2Read (new)

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I don't know that this hero is dangerous (other than to my heart!!) but I'm re-reading Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas. ;-)

message 122: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I am currently on a non-fiction jag right now. I tend to read as my moods hit. Currently I am reading Anatomy of Melancholy. It is the 1850 edition and can be best be classified as a mixture of philosophy and history.

Wow, Anne Stuart share a book title with Suzanne Brockmann. My baby Dave Malkoff is Into The Fire. Suzanne's book.

She shared Fire and Ice book title with Julie Garwood.

message 125: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments Maybe she sees titles and likes them and then uses them as well. It does seem odd that one author has doubles with 2 different ones.

Oh, I know. I don't think authors pick their titles.

I don't mind a writer sharing titles.

I like Anne Stuart writing. Fire and Ice was my first book by her. I can't wait to read more of her contemporary books.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments I do like Anne Stuart, I love how you think the hero is so bad, but by the end of the books he isn't quite what you think.

Darcy wrote: "I do like Anne Stuart, I love how you think the hero is so bad, but by the end of the books he isn't quite what you think."

Yeah, he realizes that he's human.

Anne Stuart is my favorite, because she really shows how love can change a person's heart. And she does it in a really cool, non-sentimental way. The hero is a bad as he can be. He's not looking for love at all. But the heroine is his Achilles' heel, the one person who can make him feel human. Okay, I'll shut up now.

message 132: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments Well I finished Into The Fire and I had big problems with the hero in this book. He was little better than a thug and the first time they had sex it was pseudo rape. Plus when they were teens he took advantage of the heroine and her crush. The hero did have some of the qualities that both Arch and Danielle talked about, but still I didn't like him.

I can see why you'd have issues, Darcy. While, I don't deny that there was some dubious consent in Into the Fire, I really loved the book. I guess I like an edgy storyline in a romance.

SPOILERS******************************

I admit I was iffy about him at first...then I found out why he went to prison. Dillon truly loved Jamie. I don't think he quite knew how to show it, though.

END SPOILERS***************************************

Ready to duck tomatoes now. I don't mind dubious consent in a romance, depending on the execution. I have a big problem with the hero violently raping the heroine. But I'm fine with forced seduction, and did she really say yes scenarios, depending on the execution. That does not mean I advocate rape in real life, mind you. I don't. I think a man's pretty foolish to go there if he's not sure she wants to go there too. And vice versa, if the woman's the aggressor.

message 134: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments Danielle, I did like finding out about the reason that Dillon went to jail, but for some reason the rest was just over the top for me.

But that is why I like this site, I can talk to people and have a different point of view without it turning into a screaming 'I hate you' type of thing.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 9851 comments Mod
I can respect that, Darcy. I know some things don't work for me in romances. I don't read any romance books with anal sex in them. That's a big ick factor for me. I don't care for BDSM or violent sex stuff in romances (I don't mind tying up, although that's not something I love to see). I know a lot of friends who don't mind that. I'm okay with dubious consent, and that's an issue for others. Same with stalkerific heroes. I'm really glad when we can talk about things and be okay with feeling different in our opinions. :)

message 136: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments I know that I have read books with this same situation and liked the book, but something about this book and what happened just made me not like it as much. I am not sure why.

It is a good thing that we all like different things, that way there is a book for everyone. :)

It's all in the execution, isn't it? Some authors really 'bring it,' when it comes to a storyline, and others authors leave you cold.

I think that Anne Stuart's unsentimentality when it comes to the reactions and the characterizations of the heroes does leave some readers cold. Can't say why, but it works for me. Whereas, some authors don't do so well with gamma heroes. They come off as abusive and misogynistic to me.

message 138: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments You are very right the execution part!! I have read others of Anne Stuart's and loved them. I will keep reading her and hope this one just hit me wrong.

I like Anne Stuart and it surprises me. I find myself being drawn into the story every time I pick up one of hers. The heroes are often a little too gamma for me but I still love em. I say I don't like something and I usually have that exception that makes it ok.

As far as plot, I definitely have exceptions to the themes I normally like or dislike. I absolutely despise adultery and cheating in a romance, but I have read a few exceptional books that I was able to love with this theme.

I agree with you about those themes. I hate them in real life and sure don't want to read about them.

Sans So I left Wild Instincts and Lover Revealed at work. And I'm not going there on the weekend. So I started Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore this morning and have been thumbing through The Mercenary (T-FLAC, #1) (Revised Edition) by Cherry Adair . Took some time out to watch The Red Green Show. ^o^
