Mona Are you all currently reading a book for the book club? I didn't know if there was a book a few of you Moms were reading! Thanks! :)

Lasairfiona | 38 comments There is a comic book that was adapted from a short story. The case I am thinking of is The Wood Boy - The Burning Man. The stories were adapted by Sean J. Jordan (according to here into comic book form but the original stories were written by Feist and Williams respectively. This issue might be more straight forward as worldcat lists et. al. as the authors and it might be easier to just list the stories authors. However, there are probably other graphic novels that are adapted. I vote that the adapter gets top billing and put the author of the story the comic was based on second but I wanted some input.

A clearer example is Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere as it does not say Neil Gaiman is the author of the graphic novel.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I have generally seen the adapter listed as the primary author, and that makes the most sense to me.

Agreed. It also avoids the "graphic novel accidentally combined with original book" issue that we've had.

message 5: by julie (new)

julie (maguire708) I've already read Labyrinth (I have been suggesting it for a few months!) so I need to choose another... I TOTALLY missed the past 2 months' book club books... just never got to them! The last club selection I read was "Running With Scissors" so that tells you how out of touch I've been! Which one(s) are you interested in? I haven's picked yet!

message 6: by Lasairfiona (new)

Lasairfiona | 38 comments I have fixed so many of those with Neil Gaiman. Bleh.

So, I just have to find who adapted The Burning Man. Hmmm.

message 7: by Ellenjsmellen (new)

Ellenjsmellen | 0 comments I was not a fan of Burroughs Running with Scissors. I even tried to watch the movie and give it a shot, but never made it through. Sorry!

message 8: by julie (new)

julie (maguire708) I didn't love it either, but I plowed through... now I need to get on with more current club selections!

message 9: by Mona (last edited May 19, 2008 12:28PM) (new)

Mona I have so many books on my bookshelf to read!!! The list goes on and on and on and on! I LOVE TO READ so I pick up all sorts of books and say, yeah, someday I will get to that book. But since the kids are getting a little older (5, 4 and 19 months old!) I TRY to find some time to read... I just picked up The History of Love by Nicole Krauss this past week.
I have been reading Love Walked In, The Other Boleyn Girl, Wicked, and a few others for book clubs I am in. I am in the middle of so many books right now! :) Somehow I am able to do that. I think it comes from my college days as an English Lit. major! :) Hope to chat again soon! :)

message 42: by Suzanne (last edited Feb 01, 2009 08:55AM) (new)

Suzanne I read Lovely Bones a couple years ago. It was quite good but sorta strange. Depressing sometimes also. At times, it reminded me of a time travel book. The author would take us into the past & all of a sudden, she'd take us into the here and now. I had to read a fluff book afterwards.
