Tim (nottimbook) So far I've read 3 books by Flann O'Brien, two of which are on the 1001 books list. These two books ( The Third Policeman and At Swim-Two-Birds) were some of the funniest and most entertaining books I've ever read.

His writing style is so unique and articulate that it is sometimes difficult to read, but well worth wracking your mind. I highly recommend these books to anyone. Make them the next books on your list to read!

I can't wait for The Poor Mouth to get here from Amazon :)

Kim (kimbobo) I'm reading the third policeman right now...and it's so odd. I think I like it...but I'm not completely sure quite yet. I am amused though! =)

Tim (nottimbook) I got The Poor Mouth from Amazon and read it in a couple days... a very funny book. I'm not really aware of most of the Irish-only jokes, but I am told when and what they are by footnotes so I know when I'm missing something.

I really did appreciate the black humor, though. Funny, short, clever book.

Tom The humor in The Poor Mouth is much darker than in other O'B novels, so much so that it ticked off lots of Irish who resented O'B mocking the Gaelic revival. In some ways, though, it's my favorite of those 3 works.

Sophie (imsophiedavies) The Third Policeman is an absolute favourite of mine; it made me laugh more times than I can remember, however, it also terrified me something rotten in places.

At Swim-Two-Birds was equally magnificent.

Yes, I really enjoyed At Swim Two Birds too, and I plan to read more of O'Brien. See http://anzlitlovers.wordpress.com/201...
