Welcome Ella Rose! I love the nursery idea! I have a newish baby girl (8 months old tomorrow), but we went with a fairy tale woods theme. I say that, but she came early and we are still in the process of decorating it.
One of my favorite board books to read to my daughter is Rapunzel by Chloe Perkins.

I come from a long line of women writers and readers. I don't have a favorite genre or form of text. I love poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Really, I just love good writing. I love to talk about writing, too, and I thank my mom for passing that onto me.
I also love to write. I am a lyrical, imagistic love poet by my base inclination. I'm working with a Canadian hacker to translate the ghuzals of Saidi, Fez, Hafiz, Rumi, and other Persian poets. I also wrote a sci-fi TRPG. And I am working on a collection of myths and folklore; some are originals and others are re-telling of older myths.

Sorry for my late reply Ella Rose! I did not see your post until now! A belated welcome to this group! I love Rapunzel tales too! Have you read Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth?

Thank you. I already really like the books I've found in the reading lists. I am so excited to dig into all of them. Seriously, I'm a kid in the candy aisle.

Welcome! We read retellings in lots of different genres, from fantasy, to contemporary fiction, to nonfiction.

I have a few old editions of the Grimm and Anderson stories I like to reread from time to time, I really enjoyed The Book of Lost Things and I am currently reading Ash and really liking it so far. I'm a sucker for Cinderella stories in particular.

Welcome Sadhbh! I recently finished Ash, and quite enjoyed it! If you're looking for another Cinderella story, I really liked Geekerella by Ashley Poston.

Ooh, Cinderella and cosplay, two of my favourite things! Thanks, I'll give it a go once I'm done with Ash.

Then you are definitely going to love it!
Then you are definitely going to love it!

And during the past eight years or so, I have been overdoing it on nonfiction.
Lastly, I see some different people in this group, which I really am looking forward to get to know better.
I will participate as much as I can, and thank you Susan Budd for introducing me to the group.
p.s. I run a nonfiction buddy read group for GR, and it's a small group but active, so a fair amount of energy goes to that group. Still, really pleased to have found this group!
Sher

Nice to meet you :)
We have much in common. You're a retired interdisciplinary Humanities professor. I was a professor of English for 18 years before moving into administration. I retired from my position as VP of Academic Services in 2013.
I read in your profile you like reading about world religions. I share your interest and I combine it with my interest in feminism. I wrote a multicultural/international text for Women in Religion classes years ago.
This is a wonderfully supportive group with varied interests. Folks here have led me to some great book recommendations. I'm more interested in reading and writing about mythology than fairy tales but because of some of the discussions and group reads here, I've lately developed an interest in magical realism. Who would've thunk it?
Welcome, again. I'm glad you're here and look forward to your comments and recommendations.
all best.

I've already started interacting with you, but have only just found this thread.
So, belatedly, hello. I'm Amanda and I live in Britain's rural south west with my husband and two personality-plus border terriers, Carlos and Carmen. My background is in plant science from where I evolved into international development. I also write creative fiction. I love trees.
In reading, my favourites are myths (most familiar with Greek and Norse) and their retellings, and magic realism.
I'm not wild about YA. At least, I don't think so, but I'm sure there is a YA book out there that could engross me.
Best wishes.

I read quite a lot in English, but it isn't my native language (I'm Polish), so please, forgive me my mistakes ;)
I love fairy tales, retellings and myths, so this is just perfect group for me!

Edit: I thought I should add that my favorite fairytale is East of the Sun and West of the Moon and recently I’ve been enjoying Angela Carter’s collection Strange Things Sometimes Still Happen: Fairy Tales from Around the World.

Welcome, Danielle! I completely understand about having trouble finding leisure time in college: that's why I ended up writing all my papers about fairytales and SFF, ha! :) Participate where and how and whenever you can. East of the Sun is a favorite around here, as is Angela Carter. Of course!

I also love what I think of as "contemporary" magical realism--that is, Alice Hoffman or Sarah Addison Allen. And I wrote one, and am working on another! Both of my books involve forests. So Into the Forest sounds like my kind of place.
I'm "retired," which means I have way too many projects, ranging from going to the theatre (I began as a playwright), volunteering for the local arts foundation, and wrangling my three pet cockatiels. Oh, and writing, and reading about writing, and reading and reading and reading!
