I've always loved the woods and forests, hanging out with the ancient oaks. Woodlands is a place of magic and home to some of our favourite myths and legends.

I love fairytales and mythologies. My favourites are Irish myths and legends and Arthurian mythology. I grew up reading those stories with my Mother as she is Irish and I was raised in England.
My favourite book genre is fantasy and has been ever since I was a child when I watched The Lord of the Rings and read The Chronicles of Narnia. My favourite book is The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon.
Nice to meet you all! :)

I love fairytales and mythologies. . . .
I love fairy tales and myths, too, Bethany! I also like retellings of the above, even satirical or snarky ones. (Right now I'm reading How to Fracture a Fairy Tale Happy to meet and talk books with you!

Hello, Robin--glad you came to hang out with us!

You can call me Jo!

A belated hello and welcome to Jo!
I've had my head down in proofreading manuscripts for several months and got way behind on Goodreads meet-ups.
I read anything fairytale, too, including retellings, including snarky or funny ones and historical ones. (I'm also in the Fairy Tale Retellings group, and I think you'd enjoy the discussions there, too.)

Hello Susan! Yes, I really enjoy retellings too! :) Hope you are enjoying your current read. It sounds fun!

Hello, and a belated welcome to you, Ken. I was buried in proofreading projects for several months, and fell behind on Goodreads conversations and challenges.
I enjoy classic fantasies and sci fi (among many other genres both literary and popular).
Have you considered challenging Stephen Colbert to a Ringish trivia match?
Hi. You can call me Tee.
Since I was a little girl (a VERY long time ago) I was drawn to fairy tales. Fantasy, folklore (especially my local area I live in the Hudson Valley in NYS), myths, all of it are stories I'm drawn to.
I found this group doing a search and I hope to find fun with like minded readers.

Do you guys do group readings on any book? If yes, could you please share some examples with me?

I would suggest browsing around. All our threads stay open, so you can leave comments even if it is an old thread. Many older discussions have been brought back to life that way!
We no longer have group reads every 2 months, however if there is a particular book you wish to discuss you can go to the group reads folder and ask if anyone wants to read it with you. You just need one other person to do a “buddy read” and you can set up your own thread.
We have yearly challenges. This year it a “Around the World” one.
Basically we are a pretty laid back group and don’t have many rules except to be kind and courteous!

Hi there Jalilah! I am SO grateful for this introduction! I will follow your advice and browse around. This sounds like a lovely, peacful group, the kind I prefer! I am so glad I am here!

Welcome!
Welcome!

Thank you very much, Margaret! : )

I've tried my hand at writing collaborative fiction with friends focussing on old stories and legends. I'm not bothered if they are 'real' or not - they become part of our histories when we share a tale or pass something on.
In terms of reading, I do pick up anything and everything but I have read a few things recently that touch on mythologies and legends other than from my own culture. I also usually have too many reading challenges on the go, but I do want to undertake a 'fairy tale / mythology / tales of old witchcraft / folk realism' challenge so I have joined this group for a little inspiration and a little motivation.
