Hello Roger, welcome to the group!

Are you affiliated with the author? We do have a folder for Goodreads authors and ask that all self promotions go there. Please feel free to create a thread about your book in that folder.

Catherine | 2 comments Hi, Into the Forest members,
My name is Catherine, and I'm an elementary teacher that is fairly new to the career. Last year, I decided that I wasn't very familiar with children's literature and decided to start reading. I started off with Dr. Seuss and Robert Munch books and then I just started reading everything I could get my hands on. By early Dec. I knew I could reach 1000 books by years end (over 95% being picture books). This year I've decided to go up a little bit in age range and am starting to read some young adult novels.
I started poking around on the website and found your group and thought this might be a great way to find some good stories. I have signed up for the 2014 challenge and I'm well on my way to completing another exciting year of reading!

Christian Grover | 3 comments Hello, my name is Christian, a twnety-three year old student and I just recently discovered Goodreads while procrastinating an essay. I am super excited to have found this group and even more so by looking at the 2014 reading challenge. After several impulse binges at my towns new Half-Price book outlet I have many that will fit right into many of those slots.
As far as fairy tales go, I have been sucked into the genre by way of Tolkien. For my early English lit class, I have just finished reading his translation of Sir Orfeo and fallen even more in love with classic fairy tales.

Barbara, I totally feel you on the fantasy ink. I do not have any as of yet but I am figuring out how I want mine done of my interpretation of Trees of Valinor. I also want to get the JRRT character that is found on all his books.

My name is Catie. Long-time lurker, first time poster on Goodreads. I have absolutely loved this website since I was first introduced, and still have so much to play around with and discover.
I thought this would be a great group for me to join as I have always loved fairy tales, and I look forward to the new things the group may introduce me to.

Lidija, I was going to ask this and then I googled dairy tales in case there was such a thing, and found a few, lol.

Loved this one:
A Dairy Tale: The Three Little Pigs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2mldo...

It's a fairytale retelling and was hilliarious.

You realize there are no mistakes in the universe. :)

message 278: by Emerson (new)

Emerson Hi there. I'm Chelsea. I've tried using Goodreads before, but I got too lazy. This time I'm determined to stick with it, read more, and write reviews. I love mythical creatures and fantasy, specifically faeries. I want to learn about different creatures and myths to help me write the novel I am planning.
I'm down for any book recommendations, though I'm not big on romance or retellings.

message 282: by Keair (new)

Keair Snyder | 2 comments Hello. My name is Keair and I never quite outgrew my fascination with fairy tales. However, there were aspects of them that used to get under my skin when I was little. I was never fond of the Princess waiting in the tower for her Prince aspect. As I got older, though, I was able to see how deep simple little fairy tales are. Myths are very important to me. I am most familiar with the Greek myths but I know quite a few of the Norse, some of the Celtic, and some Egyptian as well. I also love a good monster though I've had a lifelong tendency to take the monster's side on things. I blame it on the books by Jon Scieszka that I read and loved as a child. It was my first introduction to retellings and it made me forever look at the villain's point of view. :)I am really excited to be a part of this group.

♥♡¢σσкιє♥♡ (Krystle) (kookiekrysp88) | 3 comments Hi! I'm cookie and I really love fairy tales. There is just something so beautiful about the way the main characters keep fighting until they get their happily ever after. My favorite fairy tale is without a doubt Beauty and the Beast, but I love them all really.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good retellings that were romantic, but not too sexual? I've been looking lately, and the retellings are either lacking in the romance area or a little too hot for me to handle. Lol

Also, feel free to friend me if you want, I need more friend who love fairy tales in my Goodreads life! Thanks! :)

Welcome to our group Cookie! We all love Fairy Tales here! You will discover lots of good books by browsing around here. There are lots of interesting discussions.
Feel free to comment, even on some of the older threads. We also have a book shelf.
If you love Beauty and the Beast, you might like Beauty. There is never any graphic sex in Robin McKinley's books, but there is usually a bit of romance. Other good B&B retellings are Heart's Blood by Juliet Marillier and A Beastly Scandal by Shereen Vedam.

Welcome, Cookie!

If you're specifically wanting romances, you might possibly like some of Cameron Dokey's retellings. They're much too focused on the romance for my tastes but if that's what you want, you might give one a try.

Or perhaps try Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series?

These are both wild guesses! We don't have all that many books in common, and some of what we have both read, we've disagreed on so it's kind of hard to suggest something - but at the very least, both are YA/NA-friendly, fairy tale romances, so hopefully they're somewhere close.

(By the way, I spotted To Say Nothing of the Dog on your bookshelf... It's very funny AND a romance. Don't feel you need to read Doomsday Book first.)

♥♡¢σσкιє♥♡ (Krystle) (kookiekrysp88) | 3 comments Okay! Thanks for suggesting some good romances. I have To Say Nothing of the Dog so I can read that soon, and it looks great. I think I'll give Robin McKinley another try too because I read Beauty such a long time ago. I think my taste may have changed a bit since then. I might even read Beauty again because I don't remember it all that well.

Thank you again for your great recommendations. It really helped me to get a good starting place for my fairy tale retelling collection. :)

Rebecca Porter (trolltails) | 8 comments I think I may have found my tribe. I clearly remember hugging my tattered copy of the original Grimm Fairy Tales as I fell asleep as a child. As I grew, I strayed, just like a naive character in a classic tale. But always I would find myself flipping around the channel dial and as soon as I saw the flash of sword, the glimmer of a magical spell, or a Unicorn, or be still my heart, a dragon, I was right back there with my beloved book.

Today, I clear the calendar for Once Upon a Time, Sleepy Hollow, and Grimm. I read a lot of fantasy and thrillers. I have been unfaithful to the genre of fairy tales. It's time to return.

Now, I have a lot of reading to do, but the dogs are staring at me. Guess it's time for a walk.

Sigh.

I hate it when our dog stares at me. Especially when I want to read. He's got it down to a science. :)
