Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

This has happened to me a couple of times now, when I've searched for a book, and it does not seem to be in the goodreads system or amazon, etc. so I have manually imported the book. What happens thereafter though is that I cannot seem to bring then book up when I look for it, when I click on a group, click to add books to the bookshelf, and then go search for it. I can find it on a roudabout way by searching via the author and then sometimes it comes up on a list of the works the author has done, but then I seem to be beyond the pages of "adding to the group bookshelf." What is happening? Does it take a while for goodreads to completely integrate manually imported books? Why can I find it one way but not another?

Jenna, I suspect that this has to do with a known bug. When super librarians delete editions of the book, the only way to find that book for a short time is to go to the author's page. The book, all its editions, become not searchable. It's temporary, but some books have a lot of these deleted and manually added editions and the cycle continues.

I'm not sure where Goodreads is in being able to fix this. Otis?

I go as often as I can to the books that are known to be affected by this, but when I delete the "extra" editions, it sort of perpetuates the problem.

Edit: Jenna, Re adding books to group shelves: Have you tried going to the author, clicking on that book, clicking of view all editions, choosing one, and trying to add from there? I'm not sure that would work since it's "backwards" from the way we usually do it. The other option is that sometimes a manually added edition is still active and you could add that one, then when the super librarians/librarians delete it to combine it with other editions, the edition it's combined with would then appear on your shelf.

Should be fixed next release (I hope - its a slippery one)!

Thanks -- though I am still having trouble with it. Therefore my new related question is -- is there a way to find the books one (i.e. me) added? I notice at the bottom of a book it was say book added by [name:] or [amazon.com:]. Is there a way to click or find just the books I've added? I've imported/added books (usually pre ISBN books) that I wanted to add to a group bookshelf, but then had problem described above, so could not add it at the moment, and now (weeks later, if not months) I no longer recall what books I've added! (And I remember I made a mistake on one, but now of course have no idea what is either!)
