Another TV mystery series which recently had an *explosive* event. Anyone watch this series?

It is about a mystery writer Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) who works with/as a consultant to NYPD Detective Kate Beckett(Stana Katic). The story lines have been pretty good and there is an occasional bit of humor plus now a little romantic tension. All in all rather enjoyable.

Melani D I love this TV series! Of course, I have a little bit of a thing for Nathan Fillion. I read the tie-in book that they published - it was ok, nothing grand, but a fun read anyway.

Hi Melani, I was wondering about the tie-in book. Watching a TV show or movie based on a good book is one thing but reading a book based on a TV series/movie can be risky.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments This is a nice little series. (But I've liked Mr. Fillion since he was on One Life To Live.)

John Karr (karr) | 122 comments I watched several of these and liked them. Maybe I have entertainment ADD, but I just don't stick with a series very long in general so it has faded to the background.

entertainment ADD

lol... a nice way of putting it! I think I have that syndrome too!

The other problem I have with TV series is the constant switching of day and time or worse yet when a series disappears for 3 or 4 weeks because of special events (sports). It's very hard to keep interested.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments Or when a network is dumb enough to let three or four months go by between airing episodes.

And then they wonder why the viewership is down? Hello!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments This show is my favorite one on TV! The banter between Castle and Beckett is so witty. I'm finding that I even enjoy reruns of it. The show airs on Mondays, but in my area, I also get to see it on Saturday night. Yay!

message 10: by John (new)

John Karr (karr) | 122 comments Glad they are doing re-runs 'cause I've been missing it completely lately. Busy times.

Our recent acquisition of a DVR has saved my sanity.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 407 comments Hmmm, I've got the first few episodes to watch, as it's only just started in the UK. Nathan Fillion is lovely though, I've had a soft spot for him since Firefly.

message 13: by Paula (last edited Apr 28, 2010 07:28AM) (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Nathan Fillion scared the heck out of me when he appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His character was down to the core evil. Later everytime I saw him on TV I saw him as the Buffy evil madman. Castle was the same way. I have watched enough episodes of Castle to acclimate myself to the spirit of the show and no longer cringe when I see Fillion. He is Castle to me now. It's all good!

By the way, I liked Fillion a lot in Firefly. Stupid Fox for cancelling the show!

My son loved Firefly, should have listened to him. I now want to go back and watch the DVDs, love Fillion.

I just watched the season finale that I recorded and I loved the poker game with James Patterson, Michael Connelly, and Steven Cannell(?).

The joke about publishing one - or more - books a year was probably lost on most of the viewers but mystery readers were laughing I'm sure.

Glad Castle and Beckett will be back.

Donna, I thought the comment on publishing more than one book a year was especially funny in view of Patterson's prolific production. Very funny stuff! I, too, am delighted the show will be back. The ending made me go "Ah, no, not again."

Sandy (SandyLamar) | 33 comments It's worth renting the dvd's of Firefly. Nathan Fillion was a terrific hero in that series ( I agree, it was really dumb to cancel that). Anyway, if you like Richard Castle I think NF in Firefly was even more charming.

My son wants me to buy Firefly so he can rewatch them after I watch them for the first time. I may have to do that.

Vince (vchile) | 163 comments After you've watched Firefly, get the movie Serenity. It wraps up the story.(sorry-back to topic.)

message 20: by Faith (last edited Jul 11, 2010 04:25PM) (new)

Faith | 136 comments I already bought Firefly for my son (okay, and for me too) and he just mentioned this morning that we need Serenity. You can also find NF in the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer playing an altogether different and very, very disturbing, character. (sorry - NOW back to topic!)

message 21: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Well, I actually have seen Serenity, went to the movies with my son and saw it. However, it's been long enough that I can watch the series and it won't be ruined for me.

He's Back!

message 23: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I enjoy Castle, Firefly, Serenity & loved when NF made a brief appearance on OLTL some time back. I absolutely love the relationship between Castle & his daughter. Both actors are so good in their parts. I think I enjoy that as much or more than his relationship with Beckett. And it's great to have them back!!

message 25: by Faith (new)

Faith | 136 comments NF was actually a regular on OLTL for quite a while. He may have been the very first and was certainly the first adult Joey Buchanan ("Joe" to his older lover, Dorian). Yes, I'm showing both my age and my guilty pleasure! He was adorable back then too.

How interesting, Faith. I didn't realize that.

Miles | 7 comments Just finished watching the first two episodes of the new season. The plot on the first one reminded me of a certain book but to save spoilers I won't mention it here!!!

Love Castle though and the chemistry is palpable!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments I love Monday nights!

message 29: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 218 comments We've just started to get Castle (S1 ep 3) but I had heard so much about it and it doesn't disappoint. I watch each episode twice once for the plot a second time for the banter.

I was introduced to Nathan Fillion by Joss Whedon and am the proud owner of both Firefly and Serenity DVDs.
I also watched Mismatch for NF's charming performance.
And I've just seen interview up on youtube where they show him getting some lip-action in OLTL.
He's so adorable!

Abha (abhalovesbooks) LOVE this show!!! Nathan Fillion is so great in this role.

I read the two tie-in "Nikki Heat" books written by "Castle." I agree that the books themselves aren't earth-shattering, but they are quick and fun reads. I enjoy when references to the books and the characters are made on the show.

I love the show and will continue to read the Nikki Heat books as they are published (as a tie-in with the show).

message 32: by Abha (new)

Abha (abhalovesbooks) my favorite part of the books is picturing Beckett and Castle in the roles.

whoever thought of producing real books in ABC is a genius!

message 33: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 182 comments Love Firefly. I am rewatching it now. And always put it at the bottom of my long online rental queue, so that it pops up again for another session.

I hardly ever watch television anymore. I'd rather read and rent series that I like and watch all at once.

If I hadn't noted Nathan Fillion was in Castle, I probably would not have started watching this series. I think the writing is very clever. Love the relationship between father and daughter.

Eye Candy not bad either!

Yes, they created a great mother and daughter for him.

Curlyhair | 187 comments I love watching this too. although I think here in the UK its not got that much to go before the end of season 2 - boo hoo!

message 37: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Will Castle and Beckett ever get together? My hopes go up and then get dashed. I know the teasing keeps us tuning in and interested, but I still want them together. Don't I?

Rook and Nikki do in the book so I have high hopes.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 407 comments Curlyhair wrote: "I love watching this too. although I think here in the UK its not got that much to go before the end of season 2 - boo hoo!"

But I think they're going straight into Season 3.

I want to know when season 1 is coming out on DVD over here!!

message 40: by Abha (new)

Abha (abhalovesbooks) I believe something is going to happen soon between Beckett and Castle.

I was so disappointed with last weeks episode (part 2). The first part was so nail biting and it fell flat. Still love the show though.

message 41: by Susan (new)

Susan | 69 comments I love this show. I can't wait for the new season to start. There were so many surprises in the season finale.

message 42: by Chris (new)

Chris This is one of my favorites. That was some season finale. I've also read the books and enjoyed them too.

message 43: by Marja (new)

Marja McGraw (marja1) | 114 comments Castle is one of my favorite shows, too, and I enjoyed Nathan Fillion in Firefly and Serenity, a lot. I still can't believe they cancelled Firefly.

message 44: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Dingwall (wendyld) | 10 comments I love the show too and how the characters all work well together. They are doing a good job at keeping the chemistry going between Castle and Beckett. Maybe one day they'll get together and hope it doesn't mess up the series as sometimes happens. It's a nice escape from reality.

I also like the little romance developing between the coroner and the other detective (name escapes me). Everyone knows but hasn't let on.

message 46: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments I'm missing my Castle! Sob, sob!

message 47: by Marja (new)

Marja McGraw (marja1) | 114 comments Anyone old enough to remember Scarecrow & Mrs. King? When they finally hooked up it only added to the show, so I hope that's the way it is with Castle.

I like the romance between the coroner and the detective, too. And the relationship between Castle and his mother and daughter. Come to think of it, there isn't anything I don't like about all the characters.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments Indeed yes, Scarecrow and Mrs. King went on fine after they "hooked up."

Unfortunately, it borked up one of my favorite shows of that period, Remington Steele.

message 49: by Marja (new)

Marja McGraw (marja1) | 114 comments Ah, yes, Remington Steele. I think it might have worked better if they'd waited longer before they hooked up. I agree with you.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments Yeah, you have to be very careful how you do it.
