This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For | 949 comments Does anyone know what a publisher's dump list is? I happened to notice yesterday that there are a lot of entries with "dump list" as part of the publisher's name.

For example, Methuen Publishing Company (Dump list) is the publisher of this book. There are some which are very very common, such as "Pearson Education dump list" and "Arrow Children's Dump List".

For the most part, these do appear to be legitimate books (or at least, there are not absolute clear other indications that they are not real books), but I'm curious as to what this means since the term is clearly not meant to actually be part of the publisher name.

Given that LoC and WorldCat list the publisher without that, I removed it. My guess is that the appellation gets added to excess stock of older books.

This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For | 949 comments Well, there are > 2700 books with "dump list" as part of the publisher, so we've got our work cut out for us if we want to correct it :-)

I view it as a lower priority than fixing authors and combining editions, but I suppose as long as I'm stumbling across them. Of cour, if anyone is feeling bored...

I'm not going to look. If I see them, I will want to fix them . . .
