Just wondering if there are any books I should avoid. Please tell me why though rather just list books! In your personal opinion of course! I do not want to waste my time reading really bad books :)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) one book ive read is wings. its a faery book and its soooooo corny. this was my review on it:

this is one of the worse faerie books ive ever read. can we label this under little kids books. im not even finished wit yet but i only have like 100 pages to go so mite as well rite. i knoe that nothing compares to melissa marr's wicked lovely series, but i thought that this had suck good reviews and everyones talking about it plus a movie is in production then it would be good. but god i kinda had to force myself to read it. im gonna try to sit through the sequel but i dont have high hopes for it. i dont really like the characters that much. but it really was not enjoyable at all. i dont get the title of this book, and laurel is a plant?? im not sure wheather to give this book a 1 or a 2...ill think about it some more.

this book kinda made no sense to me at all and i dont plan on reading anymore of this series. i didnt really like any of the characters in this book.

Archer | 205 comments One persons reason to not like a book is going to be different from another person.. I dont think there is a great way to tell someone to avoid a certain book or author..

Check out peoples reviews of the books you are interested in that's the best way to go about it..

message 4: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) that is true. i think it depends if it suits your taste or something. look through lots of reviews on the books page. i usually read quite a lot of reviews before i read a book and if most are high reviews ill read the book. most of the books ive read i havent been disappointed in.

but its good to check reviews of a book before deciding. but the book i listed above wings a lot of people did like and some including me didnt, so it all depends..

i suggest if your not sure read 1-2 chapters of the book and then decide, do i wanna keep goin. but usually takes me like half the book to decide if it worth reading.

Totally agree it can take for me almost half the book before I can tell if I really like it.. Take the book Gideon (by Jacquelyn Frank. It took half the book before it got good.. If I hadn't kept at it, I wouldn't have gotten to the next books in the series..

Jacquelyn Frank

twinfish2 | 7 comments The NYMPH KING by Gena Showalter. I disliked everything about this book. But there are people who liked it so something for everyone I guess.

LOVEFORBOOKS (nosaintsfan23) | 4 comments They are right you should read the reviews and then decide from there.

I agree everyone has a different opinion. I read dozens of reviews, good ones and the bad ones, before I decide on a book that way I get a feeling for what the book might be like.To be honest I have never read a truly Horrible book

Heather B (heatherbenson) One book I would avoid reading is Angel by Cliff McNish. I bought it because after reading the back of the book I thought that it sounded really interesting so I got it. It turned out to be nothing like I thought, the ideas were original and creative, but I found that they were not thought out enough and not presented well. The plot was lacking and a little underdeveloped. Also the characters fell a little flat and I think that they could have been more developed. All that said though this is totally my opinion and I normally don't like to tell someone not to read a book because everyones idea of a good book is different, these are just my thoughts.

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) im glad i get books at the library first. like if i like that book ill end of buying them, otherwise if i just bought b/c i thought the book would be good and it actually isnt i wouldve wasted my money.

Heather B (heatherbenson) I wish I could do that, but we don't have any good libraries where I live, it sucks.

message 12: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot It's the same for me Heather. Our horror section is full of old Stephen King and Anne Rice books. When I started getting interested in new UF/PNR I looked up the internet and got a big list of names-at the library I only found Kelley Armstrong(Industrial Magic and Stolen), Charlaine Harris(Living Dead in Dallas), Sherrilyn Kenyon(a dark hunter one) and Laurell K Hamilton(Bloody Bones). That was it. And I was at the library again last week and those are still the most up to date books! If we want to order a new book it's one pound fifty per book(about 2 dollars?)Not prepared to do that!

One book i absolutely hated was Thirst No. 1: The Last Vampire, Black Blood, Red Dice. it was awful. I didn't even bother to finish it. whenever something good happened, the main character went and screwed it up. And she was always talking about how strong and irristable she was.

Our libraries don't have anything new either, it really sucks.

and my review This could be another book jumping on the whole TWILIGHT thing, but it does stand on its own with orginiality. Of course we have the whole female who needs rescusing and will it be a human or the fairy. We have a conflict between good and evil. We have the whole must hide from parents thing and threats everywhere. What makes it work, is the descriptive world of fairies, the tight writing and the ability to twist things and make it work. I gave it 4 stars.

i guess it just depends if the book is for you though. and this book was not for me.

Regina (reginar) Just removed it off of my TR shelf, my shelf is too big as it is. :) Thanks Mariya

message 18: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) u mean wings? yup, ur welcome.

message 19: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot Other people's reviews don't really influence my reading-whether they like or hate it won't change my mind on if I'll read it or not.

However if a lot of reviews described a PNR/UF book as 'gothic Anne Rice/Christine Feehan style'(for example) I would know not to bother with it because I'm not a fan of that style of book. This is why I like reading detailed reviews that talk about type of writing/plot etc.

Ya I know, I alway look into the book before I buy it to make sure that I will like it, unless the book is really cheap.
