message 2: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I've read this series over too many times to count. I can't wait for the newest, I'm practically salivating. I will definitely buy it, there will be no library for this one.

I just hope that everything is okay with Curran. I keep thinking about how he WOULD NOT willingly miss showing up to his dinner date with Kate. So why wasn't he there????

message 3: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I have this in my stack to read for April.

message 4: by new_user (new)

new_user Poor Curran. ;_; Maybe it's Kate's turn to save him.

message 5: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments new_user wrote: "Poor Curran. ;_; Maybe it's Kate's turn to save him."

That's the only thing I can think of that would keep him from her. He must be in some sort of scrape. Kate saving his furry butt would be great to see! Imagine a humble Curran having to thank Kate. That would just be fantastic.

message 6: by new_user (new)

new_user Indeed, it would be fantastic. Add to their dynamic. That's the only thing I can think of that would keep him from her too, considering how dogged his furry behind can be, LOL.

message 7: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments LOL. Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of when I read that little teaser. But IDK, maybe Andrews will throw us a curve ball or something.

Maybe Curran didn't think Kate would go through with it? Although, then he would be there to mock her for being a chicken lol.

What do you think about the next book in terms of Roland (I think that's his name). Do you think something is going to happen there?

message 8: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I feel like her show down with Roland will be the end of the series. I think this book we will see Hugh and hopefully Nick I mean what is he doing with Roland's right hand man?? IDK though Andrews has a way of working things out so ...

Did anyone read her blog like two days ago? She posted a chapter from the new book with Raphael and Andrea, apparently it was up before but it was new to me :-)

As for the Curran not showing up I still think someone tried to sabotage their date and she was at her home in Savannah and Curran was in Atlanta so he is mad.

message 9: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. That would be a little anti-climactic. "It was just a misunderstanding, honey." xD

I agree, the showdown with Roland probably won't go down for a while. So I wonder what else we'll learn besides the source of the crazy magic disease that we saw in the teaser.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Doesn't she end up calling him the Keep when he doesn't show, and he won't take her call. Sigh... I definitely think something is up, and maybe he's avoiding her to keep her out of it. He wouldn't not show for no reason and he wouldn't intentionally hurt her like that - and I hated how affected by it she was.

I will definitely try to work my way through the series again on audio before Magic Bleeds.

message 11: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Honestly I'm surprised she even went through with it to begin with. I mean, we know she cares about Curran but I figured that she wouldn't have done it so that she could try to keep him at a distance from her.

I'd be upset if Curran is avoiding her :( I want them together dammit!

It seems every book we learn a little more about Roland, so something is going to come up. But I agree with everyone that the final battle won't be until the very end.

message 12: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I just cannot see Curran thinking he could not protect her from whatever that seems to go against who he is.

@New_User yes I know it is a little weak but I still think it is totally plausible. I mean they are both pig headed add it a little intentional sabotage, who knows I have a new theory every week but I keep returning to this one.

Like 54 days or so **sigh**

message 13: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments @Dawn, the question then becomes if it's true that it was sabotage.. who is behind it and why?

An ex girlfriend of Curran's who's jealous? Or would it be something more evil and related to Roland.

message 14: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments @ Jess I am going for sinister more like a Roland spy or someone from the Games. I mean the shifter population keeps growing so that seems plausible.

message 15: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I think 6 or 7. I could be wrong though.

message 16: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Ilona Andrews said on her blog that in this next book, K&C will either get together or go their separate ways. She actually said she knows some people will be mad because they like the "will they/won't they" tension, but that in real life, people who are that attracted to each other try to make a go of it and it either works or it doesn't--and we'll find out which way it goes in Magic Bleeds. Ugh. She's killing me.

Jess | 3721 comments Laura Lulu wrote: "Ilona Andrews said on her blog that in this next book, K&C will either get together or go their separate ways. She actually said she knows some people will be mad because they like the "will they/w..."

Now I'm even more anxious about the book... Will they or won't they? That question will be on my mind until I read the damn book.

I just hope that the way they teaser set things off will be how the book ends :(

message 18: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I just cannot imagine the it does not work out. That seems so wrong!

message 19: by Laura Lulu (last edited Apr 05, 2010 10:13AM) (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) I know. There's no way she won't have them be together. It will piss off a lot of readers if it doesn't work out with them.

It will just show how good of a writer she is/they are to see if they can keep it good for us UF fans who love sexual tension in our series. The usual UF formula is tension...fighting...smooching...
fighting...tension...small hookup...tension...??? until the last book. If K&C are together for the next 3 or 4 books, the writing has to be really good to not have the romance aspect go boring, kwim?

new_user Laura Lulu wrote: "If K&C are together for the next 3 or 4 books, the writing has to be really good to not have the romance aspect go boring, kwim?"

Know exactly what you mean, LOL. But I loved the three books leading up to it either way. Four books is a good run (and she is right that she is being more honest by finally joining the starring couple; irl they wouldn't beat around the bush for so long). Not that I'm planning to stop reading after the fourth, I will stay the course! LOL.

message 21: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Even if they do end up together (they better!) I think there will still be tension. Just because they will start having sex, doesn't mean they won't argue. I can't see Kate bowing down to Curran and listening to his every word, nor do I see Curran not arguing with Kate about stupid things she does.

So there will still be that great tension, but now we will get to see great makeup sex!!

Or at least, this is what I'm hoping will happen.

message 22: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL, Jess! One can only hope.

message 23: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments :)

message 24: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I think they will be together and I think that is going to be so so so challenging. You know that part in magic strikes where Kate tells Curran about the dead were and then she says something like ..we had managed to have a conversation without wanting to kill each other and I cannot help but to find that fact deeply troubling....then there is another part with Dali and she says something like that is the same thing Curran told me almost word for word . Forgive me if I misquoted but I hope you get the idea. Anyway my point is...ok I am all wrapped up in the book and I forgot my point but they are really cute together it just has to work out :-)

message 25: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I think even them together will be tension-filled. Curran and his Pack issues, Kate and the Order. There's still plenty of potential for clashing and/or having to work together.

Plus, if they do get together (which by Jove they'd better!) Curran still doesn't know Kate's mission in life. I can see that becoming another source of conflict! Think about what could happen when he finds out who Daddy-dearest is!

message 26: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) And...Curran has some deep dark secret past that we (and Kate) don't know about...

I can almost see his reaction now. Your father is who?? I'll kill him for you.

::sigh:: Is it almost May yet?

message 28: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Laura Lulu wrote: "And...Curran has some deep dark secret past that we (and Kate) don't know about..."

Right like why do they keep calling him half breed??

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Isn't it this book that we get some real back story on Curran?

message 30: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Who is it that's made reference to his secret again? I know there IS one, but I forget who precisely has alluded to it...

message 31: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) I don't remember anything about his secret, except for the fact that he has one. But Dawn is right, he has been called a half breed.

I definitely have to reread before this book comes out.

message 32: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Who called him a half-breed dammit! Why do I remember him being called that, but not who did it!!

message 33: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I think the book was Magic Bites, it was either Bono or Olathe that said it and then it happened again with the witches in Magic Burns

message 34: by new_user (last edited Apr 06, 2010 01:09PM) (new)

new_user It was Olathe in Magic Bites who called him half-breed, but I don't remember anything else about his past. *itches head*

message 35: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Oohhhh there was something with the witches, right? And I'd forgotten about Olathe saying it.

What's the requirements for someone becoming a shifter in Kate's world? At least one of your parents being one?

Could he be half shifter, half necro?

message 36: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I think you can be born or bitten, Derrick was bitten remember they thought he would go loup.

As for what is Curran no clue, totally forgot about the necro thing. I was think he maybe half god and half prehistoric lion, based on the comment from Raphael's short story, sorry cannot remember the name for the life of me.

***sigh*** I hate waiting for books speculation is killing me I am already obsessed enough

message 37: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Ooooo, I didn't read that short yet!

message 38: by new_user (new)

new_user Oh, the "primeval" comment? Good point. I completely forgot about that.

message 39: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Acckk! Must. Read. Short!

message 40: by new_user (new)

new_user Do you have the anthology, Flooze?

message 41: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I do!

message 42: by Jess (last edited Apr 07, 2010 09:07AM) (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I must have missed that short as well... I don't remember reading about this primeval thing. Which book is this short in?

Well that would explain why Curran is able to half shift and no one else that is a shifter can do that. I remember Kate commenting that he was the only one who had the ability and if she hadn't seen it, she wouldn't have thought it was possible.

Because if he was just a half breed, as in one shifter parent and one human or something like that, I don't think he would have the powers that he does. He wouldn't be the head of all the packs. So his other half, while it might not be shifter, has to be something powerful.

Okiedokie! I'm going to go put a hold on it. I think I'm in Kate and Curran withdrawal. Maybe I'll re-read the first one tonight.

message 45: by Mrs. (new)

Mrs. Badass (mrsbadass) | 28 comments Ya'll won't be disappointed when you read Magic Bleeds :) The book is fantastically written, strong, and well... I don't want to give anything away :)

A lot of things will be answered, a few new things come up, and of course there is lot's of blood :P

message 46: by new_user (new)

new_user Oh, I'm jealous. LOL.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) They have to get together in this next book! I don't think i can bear the tension lol I think he ditches their date thing (think it is hilarious the way he gives her the menu at the end of Strikes!) because either him or the Pack are in troubles.

Can't wait for Magic Bleeds! Surely it is May soon!

message 48: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Erika where you one of the lucky ones who received an arc??

message 49: by Shannon (last edited Apr 13, 2010 04:19AM) (new)

Shannon C. I'm loving re-reading these books, because you start to see some of the hints in a different light. I didn't catch some of them the first read through. Awesome series!! Can't wait for the new book in May.

<>

After Magic Strikes, Curran and Andrea figured out whose blood Kate has, right? The scene with the sword brought that cat out of the bag.

message 50: by Shannon (last edited Apr 13, 2010 04:31AM) (new)

Shannon C. What are your favorite scenes from the Kate Daniels books?

I love in book one when Kate is out for her dinner date with Crest at the fancy restaurant, and when she sees Curran staring at her she has the waiter send him over a saucer of milk with her compliments. So funny!

Also the vampire hole puncher scene was a classic!!
