The Mystery, Crime, and Thriller Group discussion

Just finished The Leviathan Effect by James Lilliefors. Really entertaining thriller. Now I'm starting Prophet of Bones by Ted Kosmatka.

I just finished Whiplash River: A Novel . This was a fun wild ride of a book. The writer has his own style but it's reminiscent of ELmore Leonard. It's about an ex con who's trying to build a new life in Belize by opening a restaurant there but all kinds of mishaps happen and he ends up having a lot of people chase him from hit men to FBI agents all the way to Cairo.

Just finished The Distant Hours. I was hooked from the first page until the last. It a moving story of love, loss and murder.The pages just seems to come alive and draw you in. Love Kate Morton and have read all her books.

Just finished . Hard-hitting crime fiction, gave it 4 stars. Just started by the late Rick Hautala.

I thought that part was weird, too, but I did really like the book. I wonder if it will become a new series for Patterson.

Finished by Veronica Roth, very entertaining read. I gave this book 4 stars, I would definitly reread this one.

Now I'm reading The Lock Artist by Steve Hamilton.

My favorite author, Carolann Hays has a new book out for FREE, for the next five days. Jump on the bandwagon. I just started it, and it's GREAT!

I just started Divergent. I resisted it for so long, as well as Ready Player One. But I finally caved and bought copies of each. Although reading them at the same time proved problematic so Divergent is first up.

Just finished Fuzzy Navel, from the Jack Daniels series. Once past the cutesy title it's a great suspense and mystery/detective series. This volume is a non-stop, packed 18 hours in the life of one of those people who have snipers and serial killers and socio-paths as part of their daily routine. We all know someone like that, don't we? Well, Konrath makes it work.

Love tana french's books. Can't wait to read her latest one

I've finished The Morganville Vampires Book Four: Feast of Fools - Rachel Caine. Now I am going to read The Morganville Vampires Book Five: Lord of Misrule - Rachel Caine.

Anyone tried this out? It could add a whole new dimension to the experience of the reader if the authors could just get on board.

Just finished The Devil's Grin by Annelie Wendeberg. The main character is a woman who is forced to pose as a man to be accepted in her profession as a bacteriologist in 1889 London. Her partner in the story is non other than Sherlock Holmes. Recommended. Starting today The Sentry by Robert Crais, one of my favorite authors.

I just finished Come Home and really liked it. next up is Oath of Officeand Zero Day.

I've already read Gravity, The Surgeon and The Apprentice by Tess Gerritsen and I liked all of them very much. Looking forward to reading more by this author

I just finished A Death In Vienna and starting The Art of Racing in the Rain for the second time!

Currently reading Surface Tension on my Kindle and am loving it. I have the next 3 in this series, intend to follow this author. I love books set in Florida, my home state.

I'm currently reading by Steve Robinson which is book 3 in the Jefferson Tayte Genealogical Mystery series. Really loving this series!!

Just finished House Rules and loved. Just picked up Black Seconds, Broken Harbor and Pig Island. Still have Face of Betrayal going on my e-reader but since the others are library books I will read them first. I've only read one Tana French book and hopefully they don't need to be read in order.

I've recently gone back to the first Ngaio Marsh, A Man Lay Dead. Interesting that both she and Margery Allingham had their first books (1934 and 1929, respectively) taking place at a "murder" party at a country estate.

I'm reading The Likeness by Tana French. I like how each of her mysteries highlights a different detective from the Irish police force.

I read it in January. It was enjoyable and an interesting intro to Inspector Alleyn.

I am reading Linda Castillo's third book . I'm about half way through and it's moving a little slower than the previous two. I still love these Amish set crime books. Author opens up a different and interesting setting. I will be reading more of these.

Just finished "Surface Tension" Surface Tension really liked the book and will continue the series. Now am trying to finish a non-mystery Porch Lights I am also listening to audio of A Cold and Lonely Place, I read her first book, Learning to Swim and it was really good, this one continues with the same main character.

Just finished The Geneva Decision , an action thriller that doesn't slavishly follow the formula. Its protagonist is a non-Special-Forces woman, her organization isn't some ultra-secret government spook shop, and she's not trying to save the universe. People miss their shots, get in fights they don't win, and bicker. In short, it has more resemblance to the real world than a lot of other entries in the genre. A solid four stars.

Just finished Nine Dragonsby Michael Connelly. I'm disheartened to say I'm losing faith in MC. I had previously read Crime Beat and that was just a bunch of accumulated newspaper clips.

Nine Dragons, and I'm going to spoil it a bit, started out with great promise. A character with a minor connection to an old story gets killed. Harry Bosch is assigned the case. All is well. Enter Chinese Triads, kidnappings, foreign intrigue. OK, I'm on board.

At the end, a suspect who has already seen Harry and police have attempted a clumsy bluff and failed, suddenly decides to confess. Here's a guy who knows with certainty he will never be indicted, who has called for a lawyer, suddenly figures the jig is up and caves. Then a few pages later the kidnapping thing falls apart and the reader thinks back and is forced to conclude, 'that would never go down that way, too many holes in the story'.

Even worse, Harry Bosch has turned into a five year old with tantrums. I won't elaborate on that aspect but trust me, you almost start rooting for the bad guys.

I started , so far I'm enjoying it.

Hi Katherine. Rebecca is a great classic. If I remember rightly the ending of the book is slightly different to the ending of both movies that everyone knows. I would be interested to know if you (or anyone) noticed the difference.
