Karen M I haven't been reading on my Kindle lately because I'm trying to get the TBR pile of physical books down a bit but I am waiting to download A Dance with Dragons as soon as I get that email from the library.
A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5) by George R.R. Martin

message 2307: by Betsy (new)

Betsy The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, for a Goodreads group monthly read, is looking really good.

Also, The Hermit of Lammas Wood is the third installment of the Tanyth Fairport fantasy series staring a menopausal woman. It's great.

Susanne (heysus74) | 35 comments Sammy and I are now reading Spellbound, the second book in the The Books of Elsewhere series. We read the first book The Shadows when he was five and he loved it. It kept him hooked, and at the end of each chapter, he wanted to read the next one. He's now six, almost seven. This book isn't as engaging but we're still at the beginning--hopefully it'll pick up soon.

A good middle-grades series.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments Has anyone read Dangerous Dream or/and Dangerous Creatures - Kami Garcia? If so, would you recommend reading Beautiful Creatures before or don't matter?

message 2310: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments If you've read and loved Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl, then you are going to love Dangerous Dream - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl and then you have to read Dangerous Creatures - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl.

Alfreda Morrissey | 2 comments To myself: I just finished The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4) and now I am starting The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #5)

To my 5 and 7 year old: We just finished the Kendra Kandlestar series and are two books in to the Ramona Series.

To my 5 year old (when the 7 year old is not around): We read the second Derek the Ghost book Monsters on the March, then realized the there was a first one. We started the first one Scary school, but stalled half way through, then switched to Ivy and Bean.

Thank you so much for this. I am looking for something to read to my kids (5 and 7 year old girls) that is as exciting as Kendra Kandlestar but not quite as scarey as Harry Potter. We will give this one a try. They loved Kendra Kandlestar, once they got past the description in the first half of the first book. Then they were hooked and we are waiting for the last book to come out.

message 2325: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments I am around, just not been reading much as I have had a bad case of thinking I liked a book and it turned out I didn't. Then there is my eldest son who wanted to move to Scotland and now isn't and my fridge/freezer blowing up and having to fork out £100 (GBP) for a new fridge lol.

On a good note, I am reading Exquisite Betrayal - A.M. Hargrove which I am enjoying.

message 2326: by Heather (new)

Heather Fineisen Sisters|18050053]The Moon Sisters is 1.99 for kindle and Nook. This is a whimsical book about two sisters, one with synesthesia, who go on a quest to scatter their mother's ashes. Beautiful descriptions and compelling sister relationship that will strike a chord with most siblings. Well worth the bargain price!

message 2327: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments Since I last posted on here I have read Daughter by Jane Shemilt (got 25% into it and gave up as it was getting so many twists and turns).

Then read Exquisite Betrayal by A.M. Hargrove (which I absolutely loved)

Then I've been reading Dirty Nights, Part One by Emerson St.Clair & Dirty Nights Part Two by Emerson St. Clair (which I am finding rather intriguing with the way the characters are a mess in their heads and stuff), I'm reading Dirty Nights Part Three by Emerson St. Clair at the moment.

message 2341: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 12 comments I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck in celebration of the novel's 75th anniversary. Just as powerful now as it was the first time I read it. If you're interested in this novel, you might also look at The Harvest Gypsies, a compilation of the series of reports Steinbeck wrote for the San Francisco News. This series, reporting on the plight of migrant workers escaping the Dust Bowl, formed the basis for Grapes of Wrath. You can see my blog review at www.2manybooks2littletime.com for more information.

Linda Acaster (goodreadscomlindaacaster) | 51 comments 'Joinings' by Stuart Aken, the first of a trilogy (A Seared Sky) of an epic fantasy quest. I like it because it isn't focusing on some object but is a chance journey of enlightenment for the characters. For readers it's the slow unpicking of beliefs, of separating "truth" from ideology in a world very different but surprisingly similar to our own.

Oh you will. Not just the great interweaving storylines, but the good writing. Haven't delved into Bk2+ yet as it will take over my life. Decided, though, *not* to see the series until I've read the books. [not sure if I can hold out...]
