Heather Anybody else watch Seinfeld enough that you can quote it in every day situations? Michael Kindness is my "Vincent" as in "Vincent's picks." Every book he RAVES about, I read-and always enjoy...even the books I don't think I would. I promise to not pull an Elaine and try a Gene pick. Thanks, Michael for your enthusiasm that makes me read!

That's a great analogy -- Ann & Michael are my Vincent's as well!

I am unbelievably honored!!! Thank You so much Heather! Which books in particular have you loved?

I'm a Seinfeld fan, but can't place that episode... off to Google and Netflix right now!

Heather It's the one where Elaine decides to pick a movie from Gene instead of Vincent. Vincent wants to meet her and ends up being a pimply faced kid that asks for booze and cigarettes! :)

The best was Gurnsey. I've also read and loved Await Your Reply just because you kept talking about it! I'm currently reading Dragon Tattoo only because you and Ann said it was great. I would've never picked it up otherwise. I'm only 1 chapter in though. Did I get The 19th Wife from you guys? Another great one. Bridge of Sighs, Fun Home, OH The Book Thief!! Did you guys lead me to The Magicians? Wow that was fun! Mr. Pip, Ann...my shared love for Ian McEwan. Pretty much it boils down to you guys make me look at books I would not normally pick up just by talking about them. I'm so glad you do what you do! You've changed my ideas from I read "this type of book" to "I just love a good story!"

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was my Vincent pick.

Wow! I kind of remember that episode.
Thank you.
I confess that I entered this thread with great trepidation, not quite sure what I would find. Big sigh of relief ;)

Heather Ann...you just made me like you even more! :)

Melissa | 279 comments When I saw the thread topic, I said "Yes! Michael is my Vincent, too!" Wow, Seinfeld and Books on the Nightstand - two of my favorites things coming together is just fantastic. I started a Books on the Nightstand shelf on Goodreads just to keep track of the books I've read after hearing Ann and Michael's podcast. Some of my favorites have been Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) by Alan Bradley The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Thank you!

Melissa Railey | 291 comments I agree with all of the above. I have picked up a number of books that I probably wouldn't have read if not for your podcast (Guernsey for sure - and that was one of my favorite books from this year - I read it on 1/1/2010). Right now, I'm reading The Lost City of Z just because of your recommendations.

Thanks for the amazing podcast and fantastic recommendations.

John (taborcarn) | 45 comments I was at my library's annual book sale this weekend. I saw a paperback copy of "The Alienist" sitting on a table. I could vaguely remember Michael recommending it, so I picked it up. I wasn't sure if it was the right title, but at only $1 per bag for the books there was little risk.

After I got home I checked the website to make sure I had the correct book, and it was. It's probably going to be a while before I get through my backlog to this book, but I'm happy to have another "Vincent's Pick" in my collection.
The Alienist (Dr. Laszlo Kreizler 1) by Caleb Carr
