I appreciate you input. That's exactly how I feel about it. And don't even get me started on Methadone.

Methadone is a joke - all my clients will tell you if you are really in recovery you don't even want to take an asprin. My client just had an 11 pound baby via c-section and she freaked out because they made her take pain meds. She was really responsible about it and only took them a few days, but she was so worried I had to calm her down about it!

message 103: by [deleted user] (new)

That's how I feel about Methadone too. You're poor client. I would have been worried about it too if I was in recovery.

message 104: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm relieved that he wants to get help but very skeptical. We have been here before. Today is his eval appointment and I'm ready for a fight.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Shannen I hope all went well today at the evaluation. Keep your eyes and mind open along with your heart. I am telling you I am all about the drug screens!

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry I missed this, Heidi! If it doesn't pop up on the first screen, I don't see it.

So here's the update: After his eval, he used again. He got ahold of his final paycheck before I could and spent it on drugs. Since then, we moved him out of my mom's house and into my husband's parents' house. My mom is too soft on him and believed his load of crap. Thankfully, my FIL is retired and is willing to babysit him. He is going to group four days a week and is on Suboxone. After talking with the med provider at my sister's work and my son's med provider, I think this is a good decision for him. He had to sign a contract that he would go to treatment and if he doesn't, they won't refill his rx. He goes into in-patient on the 5th for three weeks then he will have heavy out-patient treatment. I don't have a clue what we are going to do with him when he gets out of treatment because my youngest son wants nothing to do with him and doesn't want him back in the house.

And these are the days of our lives... ;)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Shannen I am not surprised he used again - having money on hand for a person fresh in recovery is too much temptation. One of my clients actually told me she was afraid to get a job again because she feared having access to money. Sounds like he has a good treatment plan set up so I hope all goes well. I hope you know you are not alone because there are millions of families out there that suffer the same issue. Hang in there and make sure someone is a contact person with his treatment provider to double check everything (that he showed up, drug screen results, etc..). Addicts need to be held accountable above all else.

message 108: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, ladies. I think when he gets working again or gets unemployment (or whatever), I'll make sure he has a payee so he doesn't have access to his money. Even if I am the one who has to be the meanie with his money, I can handle it. Yesterday was a tough day emotionally and I'm praying today will be better. Having dinner with him alone tonight while my hubby is on graveyard. Wish me luck!

message 109: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
He needs meanies right now Shannen! I hope your dinner goes well.

message 110: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes he does. Losing his girlfriend has been the hardest thing for him but he had some hope that she would stay with him. I think that hope was quashed yesterday and it really sucks to see him so heartbroken (even if he brought it on himself). Hoping he is better today.

BTW - Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and words of encouragement and for just letting me vent.

Let's get this back on a better track...

My library is now using Overdrive for a very limited number of books. So I was all excited and downloaded the Overdrive app to my phone and checked out Bloody Jack (!) but apparently I can't directly access it from the app on my phone. I was planning on listening to it tonight at the gym. Now I have to wait until I get home to figure all of this out. Technology is so confusing!

message 112: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yay for Overdrive! Is your phone compatable with Overdrive Shannen? http://www.overdrive.com/resources/drc/ I would be happy to mail you my copy of Bloody Jack on audio - I mailed it to Wendy awhile back and she mailed it back already :)

Aww Kaylani! That sucks. I am telling you look into audiobooks. A lot of people with disabilities or suffering from illness turn to audio when they can't read print.

Heidi, why is it too early for you? its just as long to christmas for you as for us.

I meant too early mentally! We haven't even had Halloween here yet. I don't really get too many gifts since I am older now so it has lost some of the magic for me :(

message 138: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Actually, my birthday is coming up so I think I'll be getting the slippers then. I'll have to rethink my wish list after that.

Well here in Norway xmas is the next big thing. We have Halloween here but its not that big, and thanksgiving is off course not celebrated. I`m mostly looking forward to xmas for the free time. getting tired of university, even though I love it(am taking english) I still cant wait for xmas time.

With me xmas is not just about the presents anymore either(thought those are nice) but its also very much about family. I`m the youngest so its nice to see my sisters again. Also the good food, the feeling of total relaxtation, the board and card games. All of it makes me love xmas, not just the gifts.

message 140: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yes Oda. Enjoy Christmas while you are young. That is when it is the best! You get off school and get to see old friends and family. When you are an old boring adult it loses it magic. I am child free though so it might be different for parents of children out there :) Either way - enjoy!

message 141: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments The kids do make Christmas magical, but the having to visit every relative in the course of three days is stressful. (The kids' grandparents are 5 hours away from each other, my brother-in-law is even further away and we live 1.5 hours away from the closest one.). We actually made a rule that we would always spend Christmas morning at our house so don't expect us to come to your house any time soon. When the kids do get to see their cousins and they run off to play games and the adults play their own games and talk, it is really nice. It's just the getting there that's the hard part.

My family does not live close to me either. Closest family lives 2-3 days driving away. To me xmas has always been about my closets family(mom, dad, sisters).
I usually only see my extended family i the summer.

message 144: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I agree Kristen. I live in a different state from my family so the holidays are much less stressful that way :) Oda I can see why you are even more excited for the holidays if you live that far away!

message 145: by W.J. (new)

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments Yep, I'm with you guys. My hubby and I made a rule when we got married that we would always have Xmas day to ourselves instead of the stress of inviting Mums, Dads & siblings over for dinner. Thankfully, my extended family all live far enough away that there's no impromptu visits, I usually leave that for boxing day.

I much prefer to batten down the hatches and just chill out with my boys, watching the usual yearly films on the TV, while munching our own body weight in chocolate. The oldies are the best, even if I've seen some of them a hundred times, such as It's a wonderful life or the Sound of Music. The best bit of Xmas day for me is sitting down with a glass of bubbly to watch the Dr Who Xmas special after working up a sweat in the kitchen preparing the Xmas dinner. The madness running up to Xmas I could definitely live without, though. I have a huge family and it takes me ages to get through my list, not to mention the expense. I'm usually a grumpy Grinch up until the time I put up the tree & hang decorations to a bit of Michael Buble in the background :) Anyone else have any Xmas highlights?

I think for me the highlight of christmas must be after we have opened the presents(here in norway its common to open presents after xmas dinner) we usually end up playing cards or a board game. I love the atmosphere then, the joy we all share. We have great food in our stomaches, and great presents around us. We are all smiles everyone.

message 147: by W.J. (new)

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments Oda, that's a lovely tradition. I really like the idea of opening presents after Xmas dinner when everyone is more chilled out after their meal and a few drinks :) As my kids are getting a bit older now, they'll happily join in with a game of charades or the post it note, guessing game after the meal. It's a great way of bringing everyone together, even if it doesn't happen very often.

For me xmas is all about games, we usually play some kind of game every day of christmas.
Also its common with quiz here. We love our quiz here in norway. Theres always a new quiz book coming out, and espesially in easter and xmas we love to quiz.
