Yeah I was starting to worry about you Kaylani! Hope everything is okay? <3 I'm doing alright ... just graduated from college recently, and I've been doing some work at my mom's business while I'm waiting to find a full-time job. Haven't been doing much other than that.

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Congrats on the college graduation! :)

Well... things could be better but I'm hanging in there.

October my routine pacemaker surgery turned into an emergency revision, followed by a heart infection, removal, pneumonia, re-insertion in December, DvT (blood clot) in my arm that was really serious, thrombolectomy surgery to remove a hunk of clot. In/out of hospital. Shots of blood thinners. Once things calmed down a bit I got diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and then had to have another surgery. Am facing another surgery and have done a lot better, but I start PT soon for my MD and I decided to try and help myself a bit by jumping back into reading instead of trying to find ways to make everything better, since thats impossible.

Haha thanks, guys––I know, it really does feel like I just started college! It went by so fast.

Kaylani - of those books I've only read 13 Little Blue Envelopes and Wings, and I read them both a suuuuper long time ago. From what I recall I liked them both, but then again at the time my judgment probably wasn't the greatest since I was like 14 or 15. :P

Bad week health wise. With compounding bad news health wise (twice) and symptoms that I haven't had in a while has meant lots of injuring myself while doing things like trying to get in my wheelchair and a whole lot of not reading much because my eyes can't seem to focus for long enough to do much reading. Even online :(

Sorry Kaylani! You never answered me before when I asked you if you have tried audiobooks?? I know a lot of my fellow audiobook group members started listening to them due to health issues. Hope things improve!

Same stuff different day Shannen! My latest thing is Korean dramas. I am slightly addicted to them.

I read about your fascination with them. I haven't watched anything like that.

I just started about 2 months ago and ended up buying a yearly subscription to Dramafever (website with foreign shows) because I got sick of watching the ads on Hulu since all the episodes are over an hour long. I am sure it will pass!

message 175: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you get ads on Hulu even if you pay for the subscription?

message 176: by Heidi (last edited Sep 24, 2015 09:30AM) (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yes. Normally the ads don't bother me because they are short and quick and there are way less than on normal TV but with those long Korean shows it was driving me batty!

message 177: by [deleted user] (new)

That sucks. I always thought that if you paid for Hulu, it would be ad-free. Can't stand ads.

Right? It's really irritating. :-/ I remember the beautiful days when video streaming sites like Hulu and YouTube didn't have ads ... *sighs dreamily*

I agree Brigid. At least the Youtube ads are upfront. I would much rather watch them all and then watch the show uninterrupted. Normally the ads on Hulu Plus don't bother me - there will be like four 20 second ads for a 30 minute show but with those K-Dramas that are an hour plus long they seemed to throw in way more ads than usual. It was really bothering me. I would give up on Hulu Plus now that we have some more cable channels and I can watch things On Demand but the problem is that On Demand has ALL of the same commercial breaks as live TV so an hour show like Castle is an hour with 20 minutes of ads! At least on Hulu an hour show is 42 minutes with just a few ads thrown in there. I refuse to pay $18 per month for a DVR though so it is my least painful choice :)

message 180: by [deleted user] (new)

And you can't fast forward through the ads On Demand! Dumb!

Shannen *aka Mrs. Jericho Barrons* wrote: "And you can't fast forward through the ads On Demand! Dumb!"

Yup! They aren't stupid. They want you to get a DVR for $18 per month :) And with live shows like the Voice you can't even pause them! If you have to pee you better do it fast during the commercial :) I can't watch shows like the Voice without fast forwarding through all the stupid stuff!

message 182: by [deleted user] (new)

I tried watching The Voice the other night but couldn't stand all of the commercials and stories. I just want to hear the contestants sing and the judges bicker. Haha! Even the judges' bickering was grating on me so I think I might be over it. But I still love the judges, especially Blake. I might try watching it once they all have their teams because I love seeing how committed the judges are to their team.

I didn't watch much of the spring season of the Voice last year and kind of wish they would only have it once a year like Idol. I fast forward everything now except the performances and the last few seasons I only started watching when the live performances started. I am on the fence about watching this season.

Once a year would be perfect. Keep Gwen and get rid of Christina.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I like to watch the auditions and then I usually stop watching it. I watched it this week but it didn't hold my attention all that much. I might be done with The Voice, too.

On a whim I called Xfinity and asked how much a DVR would be for me and it was only $10 per month, Since Hulu Plus is $8 a month I decided to get the DVR and I will just cancel Hulu. It is worth the extra $2 per month for no commercials. Yay!

message 189: by [deleted user] (new)

Excellent, Heidi! I *heart* my DVR!

message 190: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
It's been at least 5 years since I have had one (probably more)but it will be nice to skip commercials again. I get some new internet plan that was the same price as my basic cable plus internet but it gives me 40 channels now so thought I might use the DVR more although I have had these new channels for two weeks now and remember why I went to basic cable - there is NOTHING on unless you want to watch Ice Road Truckers or other such stuff that I do not like. I so miss the days when Discovery and History actually had shows that fit their title.

message 191: by [deleted user] (new)

Agreed. Have you tried Alaska The Last Frontier?

message 192: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Nope. We just got Discovery and History added to our current plan so I have no idea what shows are even on them. Yesterday I went to set series recordings and figured out there is very little I want to record so who knows if the DVR is even worth it! I forgot that the Mindy Project is on Hulu now so when I cancel my account I won't be able to watch it :( Oh well. I can get it for a month after the season ends and power watch them all. I think that is the only comedy on the air that I really still love.

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

Alaska The Last Frontier is really good. It is Jewel's dad and his brother and a couple of their adult kids living on the family homestead in Alaska. Very interesting and sometimes funny.

Sorry you couldn't find more to record. So much for that DVR! Grrr.

message 194: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Oh ok. I will look for it and watch it if it is on Shannen. One of my all time favorite shows is about homesteading/early farming. It is a BBC series where these three historians go back to certain times in history and farm using only the tools and things available to them for an entire season/year. The first one was Tutor Farm and then there was Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm, etc... We watched them all on Youtube through our Roku and I can't say enough good things about those series. I wish others would watch them!

On a good note I love those cheesy Hallmark romances so am using the DVR for those now. :)

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

You can probably find the first seasons of it on Netflix.

I would probably like those BBC shows. There was a show on PBS a long time ago that was about a group of families who went back to the 1800's and farmed, etc. It was interesting but I can't remember the name of it.

I don't know that Hallmark romances are an adequate use of a DVR. ;)

message 196: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I will see if Netflix has it. They have a lot of shows like that but I normally don't even look at them since there are so many reality shows on TV now! Oh yes. I watched all those "reality" shows that PBS had years ago. I loved those! Here is the first show in that series. The main 3 people are in all of the shows and I really like the two guys. They are entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRj1Y...

Hahaha - I just noticed your comment about using the DVR for Hallmark movies. Hey...at least I am not recording the Duggars or Kardashians or some other family that I care nothing about! :)
