How's thing on your side? All is well?

Same thing here. Boys are all grown and out of the house. Oldest is in the Army stationed in Germany and the youngest bought his own house nearby. He and his girlfriend live together. Maybe an engagement will be in the works in the next year but son says he's in no rush. Haha!

I can't remember if you have kids or not, Bluemoon.

No kids for me yet.

Glad both your boys are doing well :)

First, thank you, Bluemoon! That photo is from when I first joined Goodreads. I guess I should update it so you can see all the wrinkles my boys have given me. I cover the grays religiously!

It's such a relief, Heidi. They both had rocky moments so I'm glad that they are doing so well now. And my oldest just told me this weekend that he re-enlisted for four more years. He will go to South Korea for a year and then to California. Can't wait for him to be stateside!

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Sorry for disappearing!

Things have been really hard since before my brother died and they just went to crap.

I'm currently waiting on a test to find out if I need urgent back surgery, and waiting to find out if the tumors they found during a medical test are cancerous, pre-cancerous or benign.
Along with the fact I'm having seizures all the time and my REM Behavioral Disorder is making itself present in the day with the neurological issues some days I can barely function.

Yesterday was my mom's 69th birthday but she passed away 3 1/2 years ago. She has a FB account that we can't shut down because we don't know the password. So I use her page as a kind of memorial to her. Every year on her birthday and the anniversary of her death, I post on her page. It is very obvious from my posts, and others' posts, that my mom is no longer with us.

After posting to her page yesterday, I noticed people posting to wish her a happy birthday. I have noticed this the last couple of years and it irritated me but I ignored it. Yesterday, a guy posted a Beatles video and wished her a "rockin" birthday. I snapped. I posted on all those birthday wish posts that my mom passed away 3 1/2 years ago. Not sure why but that felt really good!

ETA: I told my sister that for some reason, all rationale went out the window and I had the self control of a boy going through puberty. NONE! Haha!

I'm sorry Shannen, that's so painful to have to deal with. :( But it's probably best that you let them know so it won't happen again.

message 216: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you, Brigid. It isn't painful to deal with the FB thing, just frustrating. If these people took one minute to look at her page, they would know from the posts on there that she had passed away.

She had been sick for a long time so we had time to prepare for her death. I tell people all the time that her death wasn't the difficult part; it's learning to live without her that is hard.

message 217: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
That is very frustrating ... I think the problem is that now FB prompts you to wish people happy birthday without even having to go to their timeline. :-/

Awww sorry Shannen :( My mom passed away when I was 13 - long before Facebook was around luckily for me. Probably good you told them she passed away.

message 219: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Heidi. You ladies don't have to be sorry. Like I said, it was frustrating. Of course, they are all responding that they didn't know and are sorry to hear it. I know that FB prompts you but they obviously haven't looked at her FB page in four years. So weird. Anyway, my rant is over. Haha!

Got good news today about our camping lot. We have a tree that we need to take down and got an estimate for it. It was crazy expensive. Got a second estimate today and it is about half of the first AND we don't have to move our 5th wheel. Yay!

P.S. I can't imagine losing my mom at such a young age, Heidi. Hugs!

Thanks Nour. I did not vote for him and today I feel very empty and sad at the way my country looks to the rest of the world. Where are you from Nour? I hope you are happy with your election results.

message 230: by Nour (new)

Nour Rzk | 13 comments Yeah I could see how the public are somehow disappointed but that what happens. Hope he will flourish the country anyway. And I'm from Lebanon, this tiny country, located on the seashore of the Mediterranean Sea. Actually our president is such a good man he was an army commander in the past. But the idea that in America, people who vote for the president while in Lebanon the parliament is responsible for that. And I think it is more democratic if people choose their president.

Ashley Marie I'm with Heidi here. I'm afraid of what may happen but heartened by the optimistic views of people like Obama, Clinton, and Sanders. Time will tell.

I'm sorry but I'm not a big supporter of the winner for American President this election.

I'm not American, but I'm not sure a person with Trump's history should be the leader of such a powerful and influential country

It is hard to take the way our great country looks to the rest of the world now. I hope the rest of the world understands that the majority of America actually did not vote for that man and does not condone his hateful speech in anyway.

message 235: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I won't support him until he proves he deserves it, and he's got a long way to go toward accomplishing that. Honestly though I'm more terrified of him dying in office and the VP taking power.

message 236: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
He has yet to speak out to unify people and denounce bigotry and misogyny and his silence continues to divide this country. The people who voted for him have no idea how Washington works IMO and nor does he. The Republican leadership will get their agenda passed and he will be their puppet. Sorry but there is no draining the swamp - there is just adding to it. I think he regretting winning the minute it happened and doesn't really want the job. The job comes with intense scrutiny and questioning and we all saw how well he handled that during the campaign. I already miss Obama's classy ways and he isn't even gone yet. Ok off my soap box now! Evidently it is still too soon for me!

Don't get me started. I am a literal ball of bitterness.

Happy Thanksgiving to our US members!

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) As a Canadian, we have been watching the US Election feverishly and everyone in *my* circle of friends, anyways, is....scared that Trump won. Scared is the only word to sum it up. Never have I seen someone so VILE be a candidate let alone WIN an election! And for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, no less! I mean, he's the guy who fired ppl on reality TV, hates women, hates Mexicans, hates African-Americans, etc etc and OPENLY SAYS SO!! Um...WHAT!? Scary stuff...

Try living here Jennifer Lynn :( I feel like I am in the movie Idicocracy. I could not believe how the worse he sounded the more people excused it. I remember 8 years ago when Obama was deemed "not religious enough" and here we have a serial adulterer with loose morals (draft dodger too - but that was swept over) and because he claims he is on the right no one on that side cared about it. If he would have been on the left he would have been eaten alive. I will point out that half the country did not vote at all and more than a quarter that voted, voted for Hillary so that leaves less than a quarter who voted for him. I will deeply miss the Obama's and their classy ways.

message 246: by Nour (new)

Nour Rzk | 13 comments I've watched a report saying that only 9% of the whole American public have voted, and that's why trump won. Is that true?

message 247: by Heidi (last edited Nov 26, 2016 06:37AM) (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Not sure of the percentage that voted for Trump but it was definitely less than 25% because Hillary got more votes and
40 some percent of American's voted total- not 9%

message 248: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie The voting numbers were ridiculously low.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) It's like- didn't Americans understand that they had to band together to get the #s to get Hillary to win, because then if she was/is awful, at least the country is now in the hands of a normal, sane person...? Trump's entire outfit seems just...nuts. But again, I am only watching on TV and discussing him over coffee and poutine, so sorry if I don't 'get it'...It was as though the man could do/say whatever he wanted. On TV. At a debate. For PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. And he could barely form coherent sentences. He was/is a racist, sexist, scary, but also NOT very smart person. The sheer ignorance scares me the most...Damn.

Sorry I'm late to the convo but.....ugh yeah. I'm so upset about this election it's literally taken a toll on my mental health and made it difficult for me to be happy/productive in the past month. I'm so disgusted and still can't wrap my head around it. And I'm with you Ashley, I'm definitely scared but I'm actually more terrified of him getting impeached or dying and Pence becoming president ..... he's such an awful person, I can't even comprehend it. I'm still clinging to the hope that some miracle will happen to make this ... not real, haha. Anyway, I'm glad to know you guys feel the same way I do.
