David McCann (dmccann) | 11 comments Alternatively, most recent books you've borrowed from the library?

Despite all intentions not to purchase any more books until I got through most of my to-read list, today I bought the following:

Mistborn: The Final Empire
Fool Moon
Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World

Joon (everythingbeeps) Holy crap, if I post in this topic every time I buy a book, almost all the posts will be mine.

Here's some of the books I've picked up recently:

The Desert Spear by Peter V. Brett
Return of The Crimson Guard (Malazan Empire, #2) by Ian Cameron Esslemont
Rides a Dread Legion (The Demonwar Saga, #1) by Raymond E. Feist
Coyote Destiny by Allen Steele
Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher

David McCann (dmccann) | 11 comments If you've checked out my "to-read" list, there's 32 books on it - 32 books I own but have never read. I buy a new book just about every week - and only get through one or two a month.

Interesting to see Dresden Files are up to #12, considering I only just picked up #2... I can see where a lot of my money may be going...

James (jurassic_bond) | 5 comments Oh, God. I went on a crazy book spending-spree after coming back to America after 4-years abroad. I got:
The Mote in God's Eye - Larry Niven and Jerry Purnelle
The Talisman - Peter Straub and Stephen King
Black House - Peter Straub and Stephen King
Whirlwind - James Clavell
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Victor Hugo
Demons - Fyodor Dostoevsky
A Fall of Moondust - Arthur C. Clarke
Moscow 2042 - Vladimir Voinovich
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance - Robert M. Pirsig
Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid - Douglas R. Hofstadter
The Last Cavalier - Alexandre Dumas
The Baroque Cycle - Neal Stephenson
Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the Tenth Dimension - Michio Kaku
Parallel Worlds: A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions, and the Future of the Cosmos - Michio Kaku
The Periodic Table - Primo Levi

Combine those with a couple of my Dad's books I found laying around the house and I should be busy for quite a while.

Most recently I picked up A Clash of Kings at a Half Price books, so it ran me about four dollars. This completed my collection of ASoIaF, in addition all the ones I own are the solid color cover, small paperback editions, so they match, which is kind of nice. And there's no vomit-inducing awful fantasy art on the covers, so that's a plus. At the same time I also picked up a Neurosis EP, but that's neither here nor there.

Leigh Watkins (LeighWatkins) | 4 comments Last book I bought was The desert spear which lasted me all of about 4 nights! And now I got a couple of years to wait for the third.
Need to buy some new books just don't get much time to go look!

Christopher Whelan | 2 comments Recently bought A Clash of Kings. I don't buy books all that often, so my next book will likely be A Storm of Swords

message 9: by Joon (new)

Joon (everythingbeeps) I ordered Metro 2033, though it's being sent from the UK since it's not available in the US yet, and that stupid Iceland volcano's got it delayed.

Sigh!

Couple things coming out tomorrow I expect to pick up. Don't remember what at the moment.

David McCann (dmccann) | 11 comments I'm doing well - haven't bought a new book in 2 weeks.

Boing, you'll have to let me know how Metro 2033 is. I'm interested because the game looks okay, but hesitant because I've heard literally nothing about it.

Honestly, I know very little about it as well. My interest in the game came from comments that it was the story and atmosphere that made it so fascinating, and there's been kind of a lot of hype surrounding the book, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm one of those people who has to read the book before seeing the movie, so I guess it's no different with video games.

Oh, and new purchases today:

Storm from the Shadows (Honorverse Saganami, #2) by David Weber
Outcast (Star Wars Fate of the Jedi, #1) by Aaron Allston
Escape from Hell by Larry Niven
Manifold Time by Stephen Baxter

Joon (everythingbeeps) Still waiting for Metro 2033, and in the meantime I've ordered another book from the UK, Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Omnibus, and who knows when I'll get that. (Though this one is coming from Amazon UK, so maybe it'll be shipped more promptly.)

message 13: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) I recently ordered Who Is Killing Doah's Deer? by Jeff Markowitz from Better World Books. Now I'm waiting for it to come in the mail.
