Ruth | 11076 comments The Pulitzer Prize for Poetry this year goes to California poet Rae Armantrout.

Here’s a poem, although it’s not from Versed, the book that won the prize.

The Fit

In a fit of repugnance
each moment
rips itself in half,
producing a twin.
*
In a coming-of-age story
each dream
produces me:
an ignorance
on the point of revelation.
*
I'm at a side table
in a saloon
in Alaska,
my eye on the door
where a flood of strangers
pours in.
*
The door or the window?
It's morning.

—Rae Armantrout

And here’s her home page, with a selection of poems you can read. There’s also a complete book in PDF, which you can read online or print out. Click on Extremities. http://epc.buffalo.edu/authors/armant...

Kat | 1967 comments Once again I find myself not getting it--but wanting to.

Ruth | 11076 comments I find Armantrout's work puzzling, too. But I just try to relax and enjoy it for what I can get out of it. Phrases like "...each moment rips itself in half producing a twin."

Carol | 7657 comments I chose the window, too many people at the door. Let my other half face them, I'm going fishin'. That is my coming of age story. Gone fishing.

Article: http://papercuts.blogs.nytimes.com/20...

I read this book based on NY Times editor recommendations. It was amazing and I since wondered why I haven't heard any interest in this book. Well - they got it right. This is a short, haunting, brilliant piece of ether. That is all I can say.Tinkers
