Rachel (rrgoettl) | 10 comments I guess I was a little uncomfortable with the thought of Lucan as a romantic lead, as in the first book he was a rapist.

While I enjoy the character of Lucan and find him interesting, it makes me worried for any female he might be interested in sexually.

One of the things I found most interesting in the series was Viehl's treatment of sexual coersion. It happened all the time, but it was never really directly addressed. Are people under the influence capable of giving consent? Is taking someone's will and using their bodies acceptable?

That being said, I did like this book once I was able to make myself overlook the Lucan-is-a-rapist aspect.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) LOL wow I didn't even think about that! great points. I have to reflect and then come up with some rebuttals.

new_user It's been some time since I read his book. Is there a specific incident you're thinking of when referring to him as a rapist? (I do agree that sexual coercion is definitely an element in her books though.)

In If Angels Burn he rape's Alexandra's nurse/assistant.

new_user Hm, I think I vaguely remember that one. Was she under thrall? He is definitely a troubled man, yes. I think his role and reputation have made him bitter.

One point that I did notice is that both thrall and rapture exert an intoxicating influence over characters, so neither seems to be in their right minds (although I'm not sure that applies to Lucan in that situation- maybe?).

Rachel (rrgoettl) | 10 comments I don't think it was thrall, like it was with Michael and Alex, it just seemed like he used his scent. I'm pretty sure Lucan knew exactly what he was doing.
