Algo0117 Gonzalez | 18 comments And you see all these books you want to read what do you do to remember what they are? Do you write them down, or are you like me and take pictures with your phone. Or, is there another way you keep track?

When I am at the book store I pull out my phone turn on the camera and go row by row and take pictures of books that look good. Maybe that is why I have a thousand pictures on my phone.

What a clever idea, I'd of never thought of that. I try to remember, yaw like a lot of good that does me. I try saving to my cell next time.

message 3: by Lekeshua (new)

Lekeshua I have never thought about taking pictures. Man if I took pictures I would have too many. I walk around and log them into my phone through GR. Before I discovered GR I wrote them down on paper. I had list everywhere and if I stumble over a book of interest while listening to Books on the Nightstand podcast, and I'm at work, I would have posted notes everywhere along with list.

Ez (ezrah-rah) I take pics with my phone, too! If I don't have my phone for some reason, I'll write the author/title down. Otherwise I'd never remember on my own. Eventually, I add all of the books I was interested in to my Amazon wish-list and delete the pics.

message 5: by Angie (new)

Angie (bookhugger) | 2 comments This is a great idea! I usually dig an envelope out of my purse & try writing down the title & author. All the while trying to be inconspicuous, so as not to get busted by the bookstore employees. LOL

message 6: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I keep a little notebook in my purse to write down titles. Actually, I do the same thing at the library because if I took out all the books I thought looked good, I'd never be able to carry them home!

message 7: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead I take pictures with my phone too! I always feel a little awkward about it though, like other people are going to wonder the heck I'm walking around snapping pictures of books...

message 8: by Jenny (last edited Apr 26, 2010 07:26PM) (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 209 comments I send myself samples from Amazon to the Kindle app on my phone, then go back and read the first few chapters later to see if I actually want to buy it. If I like it then I leave the sample on the phone until I can go back and purchase the full copy.

Elizabeth (Alaska) My phone is a phone, not a camera, and I use it only when I'm traveling. When I'm just out and about, well, I'm just out and about - there are real people out there to talk to face to face. I have a list here on Goodreads of the books that are of interest to me. I love my Goodreads friends, they have such good taste in books.

message 10: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I am ashamed to admit the Borders people know me on a first name basis. I talk books with one of their managers every time I see her. I get such great recommendations and ideas from all of you and from Sarah! I should own stock...

Elizabeth (Alaska) OH, Nancy, no need to be ashamed of that! You should be proud!

message 12: by Nancy (new)

Nancy No - they're probably just sucking up because I spend so darn much money there! He he

message 13: by Angela (new)

Angela Holland (bookaunt) I also carry a little note pad in my purse and I write down the books I want to read then put them on a wishlist I have here at home that my husband and kids can look at during Christmas and buy me books from that list.

message 14: by Algo0117 (new)

Algo0117 Gonzalez | 18 comments I wish they knew by first name at the book store lol.

I have gotten looks for taking pictures, but I don't care. I then come home, pull up GR and then add all those books to my list lol.

message 15: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) Hehehe, I do a mix! I will take many pictures with my iphone (but since there's only 16 GB space on it, I need to watch how many I take!) so I'll also keep a list in my AwesomeNotes app. I have a folder in there labeled "books" and whenever I find a book I want to look at in more detail, or want to buy, I'll add the author, title, picture and/or ISBN! It works pretty well :D

Also, Nancy, the people at my local bookstore know me pretty well by now too :P Not first name basis, that's too "improper" for Germans, but almost! Sometimes I feel they want to kick me out because I read so much and don't buy enough....

I agree, I'd be proud of that!

That reminds me, I keep a memo of books I want to buy on my Blackberry too. When I'm in the store though, it's usually just easier to take the picture, and then I add it to my list later.

message 18: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) I write the details on spare pages in my appointments diary as it's alway in my bag, then when I'm home I add them to my to be read list on Good Reads (there's only about 100 + on it!). In the past, I've been worried about forgetting the books that look good so end up buying them which is why my book shelves are creaking with books I've not got around to reading yet. The virtual bookshelf is better for my purse!

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 390 comments I have my TBR list here on GR and then I have my "wishlist" on Amazon for my Kindle. When I know that I am going to the bookstore, I compare the two, and print out a list of the top 10 or 20 on the lists. When I get to the bookstore, I find those books, look to see which ones REALLY capture my attention at the moment, and get those.

I dont usually find a new book in the store that I havent already seen on here.

message 20: by Suze (new)

Suze (suzed) | 69 comments I'm ashamed to admit (kinda) that I have no will power and have to stay out of book stores, esp. Borders. I shop almost exclusively on Amazon now, although my wishlist is HUGE, mostly because of all the recommendations on GR. (for which I am very grateful!)

I wait till the price drops, then pick up a few at a time, used. Saves me a *ton* of $$.

message 21: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Yeah Suzi, Amazon is where I keep most of my wish/wants. When I spot them in a store or otherwise, they go on there.

I do the same with my cell phone camera, lol!!! Then every so often I add them to my list in my cell's memo pad and here on goodreads.

message 23: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Godwin | 17 comments Actually, how about a shoutout to your local library. I can order all sorts of books online from mine and pick them up at the branch near work. They have some e-books and audiobooks you can download(unfortunately a lot of them are PC only and I have a Mac.) In these days of tight budgets, use and support your library!

message 24: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Oh you are so right Suzanne. I would love to support my local library. But my work hours don't permit it. Maybe some day when I retire.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) The library is a great money saving resource for me and I quite often order the books I put down on my lists from them (if my Aunt doesn't already have it!).

message 26: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead I use my library a lot too. I go every week. I have hundreds of books at home that I still have to read, yet I go to the library each week and pick out others to try, lol! My library has a great used bookstore inside it too, I love it.

message 27: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) | 212 comments Sarah, I like the sounds of your library!

Anyway, I usually either get on Goodreads on my phone and just add them to my to-read list, or I also carry a little notebook with me so I can jot the title or the author down.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Our libraries have books for sale too and the one in town has a shelf of free books in addition!

message 29: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (Dreamworldbooks) | 17 comments Haha! I have an Android phone and I downloaded an app for taking notes. I have a folder called Book Wish List and I type everything I want into it. Then I come home and add everything to my paperbackswap.com wish list. Nice to know many other people are as book-hungry as me!

message 30: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 533 comments Y'all are very smart. Normally I just walk around and look at books I want....and then I forget as soon as I get in the car ;)

message 31: by Renee (new)

Renee (reneebergeron) I keep track of books I want to read by recording them here on goodreads and to-be-read. Then, when I'm going to the bookstore, I take a list with me. I don't have an iphone...but, the goodreads app is tempting me to get one! I do have a memo pad to record notes on my phone, and I will usually try and list out at least 5 books that I want on there, so I can have it handy when I stop at the bookstore. I love to browse bookstores.

message 32: by Katie (new)

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 319 comments I have a list on the MemoPad feature on my phone so I type the title and author in there. I also use the camera in my phone sometimes if I don't have time or both hands free to type. I punch them into the list when I get a chance.

message 33: by Elizabeth (Alaska) (last edited May 03, 2010 08:07AM) (new)

Elizabeth (Alaska) So much for lists. I have a Wish List here on Goodreads that I have meticulously created and added from books that you and my friends have read. There are now over 200 books on that list that I want to read. Yesterday I was on Amazon ordering a book for my husband and wanted something else so I would have $25 and free shipping. Of course, I got out my Goodreads Wish List. LOL The book I ordered isn't on that list! I did order a book by an author on that list, does that redeem me in some way?

message 34: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments I have a little memo pad in my purse. I write down books that spark my interest then come back and look them up on GR. I get some funny looks at the bookstore sometimes, but who really cares? :) Don't want to miss a good book!

message 35: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 654 comments Sooner or later, you'll see in the larger bookstores those hand held scanners which will add the book to your wishlist. The technology already exists! Giant has it so you can check out more quickly! And some wedding shops have it to build your bridal/baby list!

Just imagine, you scan, build an insant list and can have a print out!

message 36: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 26 comments I use the notepad on my iPhone now. If I hear about a book on a podcast or see a book I don't want to forget I add it to my ever growing list then it's easy to just quickly bring up my list. Before I would just try to remember...yeah that never worked so well.
