I've been a fan of this show for quite a long time. I've never read any of the books that the show is based on though. Have you read any of them?

message 3: by Gail (new)

Gail | 15 comments I watch the show and have read all the books. and both are great! But- read them in order. To find the order go to www.stopyourekillingme.com and put in Kathy Reichs( author) or Temperance Brennan ( character). The books are a little different- different settings and many characters are changed- So don't go looking for Booth, Sweets, etc.

Jan C (woeisme) | 39173 comments The show isn't based on her books but on her life. Although Max Alan Collins and Kathy Reichs, I believe, did write a book based on the show. It took place in Chicago. Buried Deep.

I'm still on the first book.

And I like the show.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) I couldn't get into the books

Lauren | 71 comments I really like the books, so last night I watched a few episodes of the TV show on Netflix. Liked the show, but I agree it is not very much like the books. It's a little disconcerting for the show to be based in the DC area, where I live (the Jeffersonian?), when I have pictured Brennan in NC and Montreal. And I agree with an earlier post that she seems more flaky and colder than in the books. It's early in the series for me, though, so maybe that is part of the character development. Still ... the show kept my interest, which is rare, as I hardly ever watch TV.

Katrina | 51 comments I adore the television series, it is the relationship between Booth and Bones that makes it work. I have read the first two of the books series and it is alright. I would prefer it taking place in D.C., and was more like the television show. The Jeffersonian I assume is the legal way of saying the Smithsonian, probably couldn't clear it with the bigwigs to use an actual place which happens a lot.

I don't know, I liked them enough to want to continue to read them and Kathy Reichs comes out with a new one like every 6 months. Last time I was in the D.C. area(over Labour Day weekend) the metro station right down the street from my parents house had a few big ads for her newest Temperance Brennen book -it made me sad they were set in the location I was currently standing.

Pollyanna (polly8) I love the series, I was watching it before I read my first Reichs book. I was halfway through Bare Bones and realised that it was Bones. I love both, they are very different but fun. Booth and Brennan make the show and I love their relationship. I like Temperance in the books aswell, how different she is to TV Temperance, a lot more fun and human.

message 9: by Abha (new)

Abha (abhalovesbooks) Really like the TV series. I think the show does a pretty darn good job developing all of the main characters. Anyone else glad Hannah is gone?

message 10: by Donna, Co-Moderator (new)

Donna | 2178 comments Mod
Oh yeah. I know why they had to have the character of Hannah but I didn't really care for her at all.

message 11: by Marena (new)

Marena | 35 comments Have read the books and really like them. Tempe comes across as far more human and fallible than in the tv series. Although I enjoyed the tv series, they started to throw in a couple of really silly episodes that made no sense to man nor beast, so I stopped watching it. Also in the books, the relationship between Tempe and Ryan is far more adult, interesting and at times bitter-sweet than that of Bones and Booth in the series. I would definately recommend them, but as Gail says, try and read them in order.

message 12: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) Oh good Hannah leaves, I wasn't keen on her at all. Although I have to say I like Booth and Brennan always near getting together but not actually becoming a couple.

Susan | 69 comments Bones is one of my favorite shows. I read some of the books the show was based on, but I haven't read them all yet. They are very different from the show though but still good.

Chad | 2 comments Bones is such a great show. It is so diverse with genres ranging from comedy, drama, romance, crime, and forensics.

Diane S ☔ | 438 comments The characters on this show just mesh so well and the storylines are always interesting. One of my favorites along with House.

message 17: by Maryfox (new)

Maryfox | 398 comments Love both the books and the TV show - probably because I don't try to compare them. In my mind, the only similarities are the name and profession of the main character.

I once read that Kathy Reichs commented that the TV Tempe is a younger version of the book Tempe but I can't get my mind around that because of the huge gap between the characters. As others have noted, the woman in the book is more attuned to the real world.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I managed to watch an episode (the first ever) of this series last night (the husband was away and I had control of the remote control for a change!), but then I fell asleep half way through... rats! now I'll never know what happened.

I've got Déjà Dead coming up soon on TBR. Hope I love this series.

I've read almost all of Kathy's books and Flash and Bones has been out for a long time now.
In all formats - Hardcover, Paperback as well as Ebook and Kindle editions.
Unless there is a new one I don't know about just yet. :)

Can't wait to read it!

Steve Scott | 9 comments I've read several of the books-sometimes feel that they get bogged down in detail, almost as if the writer is proving how clever she is and how little we know !!They're still Ok though.
The TV series, however I think is top-class.Funny,moving,vivid and a very strong cast. It helps greatly that I find Emily Deschanel a mesmerising beauty-a bewitching mixture of briilance, shyness and gorgeousness. Am I the only person who thinks she's the hottest woman on TV?I've only just started watching this-we're on Series 5 shown 5 times weekly. I'm saving Series 7 till I've seen the previous six.Two or three of the episodes hasve reduced me to a sly tear or two and all of them make me laugh. It's as near perfect as anything on TV

message 24: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Green (stacygreen) | 30 comments I've read a few of the books, but like Steve, sometimes I feel they get bogged down in the detail. But maybe that's my own ignorance. I love the show - Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz have a rare chemistry, and the supporting cast brings a lot of humor. Can't wait for it to return this spring!

message 25: by Rapidio (new)

Rapidio | 5 comments I had read several of the Reich books and kind of burned out on the series well before the TV series debuted. The books are much more serious in tone than the TV show, but the humor and the interpersonal relationships, and yes, the occasional silly episode keeps the TV series fresh, imho.

Ben Guilfoy | 8 comments I've kind of fallen off on the show. I really liked it the first three or four years, but after a while I just got tired of it. I'll still catch an episode here or there and be entertained, but it's not high priority for me anymore.

I would definitely check out one of the books at some point, though.

Jojo Nicholas (mystichaze) i love this show. me and my best friend watched it from the begining to till recent and i have started reading Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, #1) by Kathy Reichs

I love both the show and the book series. Though they are completely different, the books always leave me feeling wicked smart afterward. You can really learn a lot about forensics. The Body Farm book series is similar and just as good.

I really enjoy the show as well.

David Freas (quillracer) | 2956 comments My beef with the TV show is how someone as intelligent as Bones is supposed to be can be so monumentally stupid regarding normal human interactions. I stopped watching the show for that reason.

Dave wrote: "My beef with the TV show is how someone as intelligent as Bones is supposed to be can be so monumentally stupid regarding normal human interactions. I stopped watching the show for that reason."

I think sometimes when people are so smart, they don't really know how to be around people and feel comfortable. It doesn't really make them a bad person. Since she has become a mother I think she has changed a lot. Her character on the show is completely different from the down-to-earth character in the book series. I like them both.

message 35: by David (new)

David Freas (quillracer) | 2956 comments Kathryn: at first it was sort of funny, this hyper-smart person with no clue to how to interact with others. However, it went on (and is to some extent still going on) too long. If she's that intelligent, she should be able to learn - yet she never really does.
I live with a person as intelligent as Bones, maybe ever smarter, and she would not commit the gaffes Bones makes.

I understand what you're saying. I know people can be smart and have a good personality. I think she is realizing this season how people see her and is trying. I do like her honesty, though. I find that more refreshing than people who try to always say the right thing, whether they mean it or not.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1743 comments She really has no clue how to react around people to the point its often offsetting. Then when she does gaff, she is all self constious, which is true to form because that's how I feel most of the time.

Nikki The first book was difficult to get through, but the next few books got much better!
my only complaint is her driving details left on this street, right on that street, etc. otherwise, I have enjoyed the books I have read, and I am continuing the series.
