Hodgesensei | 1 comments I was talking with a math teacher who had seen No Country for Old Men and read The Road, and he was surprised to know that these works were written by the same man.

I said to him, "Well, in a great deal of McCarthy's works there is a central image of the fire of civilization be carried forward regardless of death." We discussed this, and in NCfOM, there is the literary and cinematic recollection of the Sheriff's father, and his galloping ahead with a horn of fire, carrying it to light the fire again. The Road features a constantly questioning son, who continually asks about "carrying the fire."

I was wondering if any of you had found a similar trend in Blood Meridian and such. The only other McCarthy I've read is "All the Pretty Horses."

Just read them all. Finish the New Mexico Trilogy and sit back and smile.

I have just done a re-read on Child of God and Outer Dark [McCarthy's 2nd and 3rd books] and have re-blown myself away. If you have read him in the past go tackle him again. So much better the 2nd time around.

Dave (crzydjm) | 20 comments I really liked Child of God. Haven't gotten to Outer Dark yet. Currently finishing up Suttree. I've enjoyed all of his stuff up to this point, with the exception of Orchard Keeper.
