Love love | 120 comments I'm sorry but I have no idea what other bodice rippers are out there( I'm really new to br) but I will be watching your list for some good suggestions. =)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I've been wanting to read The Wind and the Sea for a while now.

Where Passion Leads by Lisa Kleypas 1987
This was the first romance she wrote when she was 24 years old. A bit towards the end-ish of the BR era. I do know it has a rape, but I don't know about any other BR elements. I don't think I have ever seen a copy of this anywhere for less than $50.... lots of people would love to get their hands on the first Kleypas!
Where Passion Leads (Berkley-Faulkner, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

That's the only hard to find BR I can think of not on your list so far. Looking forward to seeing what other books are recommended here!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I wish I could get a copy of this one. I won't pay $50 for a paperback, though.

D'oh! Don't give away our secret! :P

I don't understand why authors want to keep the older and supposedly worse stuff in The Drawer of Shame. Re-release them, and you'll have lots of people saying, "OMG, she's so much better now!" Or there'll be people who will love them, just because she wrote them. LOL

Eh, own up to all your creative endeavors. Because even if you don't think they're good, wouldn't you rather have the money than some third-party seller on the used market? :P

message 7: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) it might be that they don't have the rights to re-release depending on how their contracts were written. Or if they have died, and the rights have reverted to their family (i.e. Christine Monson of Stormfire fame), then they might not want reminders of what happened - IIRC she committed suicide not long after either that or her other book came out - not sure if they are related or not

--I agree, Karla. I read all LK's older books. I liked them. I thought they were good books and showed her writing talent. Of course, her later books are better, because she has been writing for a long time. I really don't like that decision she made. But, oh well.

message 9: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) thanks - i had heard it was in relation to that, but thank you for posting the correct information

Hah, that's priceless! :D Bad author! Bad!

ETA: And "acceptable" copies of Whitney Redux are going for a penny on Amazon. The 2 Joyces are cheaper in hardcover than in pb (one just barely, the other one far cheaper)

Unless you come across a pile of milk crates to store them all in, and then you can do the 30 + 2. :D

Which Angelique books have you read? Do you know that they made the first five books into movies in the 60s-70s?:-) starring Michelle Mercier (my french grandmother bought them for me yrs ago!!)? I LOVE those books, but they're terribly hard to find, even in French! They're starting to republish them though! Thank God! I really want to reread them all! :-) In the same vein, you have Juliette Benzoni's Catherine and Fiora series (a mix of HF and BR/HR... I love those as well!)

I subscribe to romantic times magazine...and it was said that laurie mc bain was re-realising her books?
have you heard? usually re-release happens in the states before here

message 14: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 09, 2010 11:02AM) (new)

That's good to hear, now that I've got pretty much her whole OP backlist. LOL I'm sure I'd like the older covers better anyway! But until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed that LB hadn't been in print in a LONG time.

Nona (goodreadscomnona) | 61 comments Devils Desire and MoonStruck Madness are my fav McBain, hope they release them soon though I do love the old covers, very artist and leaves something to the imagination

message 16: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I received Outlaw's Embrace by Francine Rivers in a box deal on Ebay a couple of years ago. Not super expensive to find but going for $6 plus shipping on Amazon. There was also an old Sherrilynn Kenyon book in it that had a long WL on PBS. The Kenyon has been rerelased now so not so hard to find anymore.

I also managed to get Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson a couple of years before it was finally rereleased.

I've been waiting for The Windflower for 3yrs now on PBS. But I haven't put much effort into getting it elsewhere either. There's one on Amazon now for $18. So not too outrageous.

message 17: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I finally broke down and bought a beat up used copy of Zinnia by Jayne Castle from Amazon for $13 w/shipping. Only to find out a few weeks later that they were being reprinted. I was so ticked. But more at myself for not investigating again before I ordered. Her website had said at one point that they wouldn't be rereleasing her older titles.

Have you tried ebay? I just saw they have a couple of the Angélique books! :-) I just bought over 300 books off ebay, and 88 of bookdepository... I'll be starving for the rest of the month, but no biggie:-)

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments I finally got Stormfire by Christine Monson!!!! I ordered a lot of 100 books months ago on eBay. I pretty much only bid on it because this book was listed in the lot. When I recieved the big box I went through it franticly searching for the book but it wasn't included. I emailed the seller and she apologized and gave me a refund for the price of the lot (I still had to pay shipping). Anyway, yesterday I recieved a mystery package in the mail and I didn't have any idea who it was from. I opened it and was soooo excited to find STORMFIRE!!! Yay! Yay! Yay!!!! Can you tell I'm excited? I guess she came across the book again and remembered me!

message 20: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) lol...congrats!! yeah, i got stormfire in a huge lot that I bought, but it was a mystery lot...so i had no idea what to expect

I got really lucky and found "The Wind and the Sea" in an ebay "pirate romances" lot of 14 books for really cheap. And I found Stormfire for only $5 (plus free shipping) off of amazon. But, I had to pay a pretty penny for The Silver Devil...

message 23: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Ok does anyone know if there's a list posted on the group of all the desirable OOP/HTFs? I read BRs years ago and some of the authors ring bells but I'm a little out of the loop so to speak. Anyway there's a UBS where I live that has boxes and boxes of BRs all for a few pennies. If there was list posted somewhere I could pull it off and when I'm next in town hit the boxes and launch a search for stuff we could then read the book and send it on to the next reader who'd like it read it. Just a thought:)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Good idea, Adrienne.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

maybe they could be added to the group bookshelf with a "HTF" shelf

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

OK, I did it. Added a "HTF rare expensive" shelf. Adrienne, you can click on that shelf on the Bookshelf page and then get a list of all of them. I'll be adding more today.

message 27: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Thanks Karla. I can't wait to get hunting:) As soon as I find any I'll add them to a list so we can cross reference.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I envy your BR trove! Happy browsing!

message 30: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Ok I have the list and will start my search, this UBS has boxes and boxes of 'old historical romances' so I'll work my way through them as and when......you never know I could strike gold for us:)

Amanda | 107 comments Good luck Adrienne! Happy hunting! :)

message 32: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) OMG! I found The Windflower by Laura Londong at a UBS today for $2.50. It's pretty beat up but still very readable. I almost passed out when I saw it there. I just moved here a few wks ago and popped into this store for hte 1st time today. It's been on my PBS WL for over 3 yrs now.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm so envious, Mary! It's also been on my WL forever.

SmittenKitten | 189 comments For anyone who is interested in a copy of The Wind & the Sea by Marsha Canham , right now on amazon there is a copy for 3.99 plus shipping (total $8)... that's about the lowest price I've seen for that book in a while.

message 39: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments Thank you!!!!!! I just ordered it!

message 40: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments At least I think I got it. The seller has it listed on at least 2 other sites. Not sure how that works. First come, first serve maybe?

message 41: by SmittenKitten (last edited Sep 08, 2010 04:25PM) (new)

SmittenKitten | 189 comments Glad I could help!

I've never had any issues ordering from sellers on amazon, so I think all is well. :-)

message 42: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Ok I searched through 2 boxes on friday and found......Juliette Benzoni Catherine and Arnaud 1967 edition, pages are tanned but otherwise in very good condition considering it's age, however the UBS has put a stamp on the front cover. The US lady didn't charge me for it(I bought Dance of the Butterfly by Cris Anson I'm regular, and it was only pennies anyway. Will keep my eyes open for the rest of the series:) If anyone is desperate to borrow CaA let me know.

The Mandingo knockoffs are trash, but I love 'em!

That's such a pity. No book should be burned for any reason IMO.

I agree Karla!!! That just breaks my heart a little!

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

The Mandingo movie is awesome trash. I just saw it recently and Susan George's performance is one that'll stick with me forever, I think. LOL Plus it's always fun to see a respected British icon like James Mason totally slumming it.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Definitely required viewing for a Sunday. :D

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, our family movie nights as a kid were Alien, The Howling, etc. :)

I also remember being about 9 and watching The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas too. I think "Rated R? What's that?" was the motto in our house. :P Meanwhile, a friend in school couldn't even watch James Bond movies because there was sex in them (while her mother read Kathleen Woodiwiss and Johanna Lindsey by the buttload.)

Whoops, highjacked the thread!

message 50: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments Karla, I love The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas!! We watched it everytime it was on at my house growing up!
