Because he didn't like allegory, which Narnia uses. :)"

But he uses allegory as well ..... but he DID hate them.....I think it was because he found it innappropriate for the situations C.S. Lewis used it

message 64: by Renae (new)

Renae (renaener) | 258 comments Because he was an extremely strong Catholic and if I'm not mistaken C. S. Lewis was while he wrote Narnia but then he became Anglican (another type of Christian) and Tolkin was angry. He thought Lewis was belittling his faith.

but don't quote me lol

message 65: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) that's absolutely untrue.
Lewis was an atheist, then became a theist through his friendship with Tolkien, but Tolkien was a little disappointed (not "angry") when Lewis became a member of the Church of England and not Roman Catholicism, which was Tolkien's faith. They were still friends, though, and the basic principles of religion they agreed upon.

I've read 2 Tolkien biographies and just took a college course of the life and works of CS Lewis. This is a subject I am very much familiar with.

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

how about "the last knight" by hilari bell, its my current obssesion.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

What's it about?

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

its the first book in a fantasy series set in a sorta medival land. certain plants and animals may be "magica" and there for are protected and cant be killed/eaten without proper sacrifice first. there are two main characters Fisk and Micheal, Micheal is a noble who has left his home to become a "knight errent" who travals the land doing good deeds but mostly just getting in trouble. Fisk is a *ahem* retired con man who was saved from hanging by micheal and now travals with him even though he thinks knight errentry is stupid. many adventures ensue...

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh. Sounds good. I'll have to look for it. :)

message 93: by Ji Mei (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) If I were into princess books, there's Gail Carson Levine's books, Shannon Hale, Jessica Day George, and Sally Gardner. If not there is Atherton by Patrick Carman, Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver, House of the Scorpion, Sphinx's Princess(it's about Nefertiti)and more! If you look at my profile and the books I've read, most of them are my favorites!

message 94: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I love Esther M. Friesner's books! And Gail Carson Levine's and Shannon Hale's. And I like Sally Gardner's (so far, i mean, i've only read red necklace....tehehe)

message 95: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (benjamintkw) | 16 comments Hi I'm Benjamin I'm new to this club but I like romance with a small twist of fantasy. My favorite books are the Mortal Intruments Series. But I also like books like As You Wish And others but mostly I need a book to read and personally I don't want to read the books on my to-read shelf I just think they're....boring? But thanks!!!

message 96: by MrJsPancakeHouse (last edited Sep 09, 2010 09:41AM) (new)

MrJsPancakeHouse I really enjoyed the The Elvenbane from Norton and Lacey. The first book in the trilogy seemed over descriptive and a bit of a chug to get through, but was very rewarding in my opinion.

message 99: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne (rschmread) | 14 comments (Do people really read these threads or just post?)
On the previous page, Skye, people have responded to you...
Anyway, I have and have read the Vampire Academy (by *Richelle Mead* ) books. Spirit Bound is waiting in my TBR pile. I'm trying to read through the entire library first. (Kidding... kinda)
I am probably partial to them because of my and the Main Characters namesake. But I do like the drama of undying love... literally. I actually thing that VA is better than Twilight. But that is merely my opinion.

What can I add to this recommendation list that wasn't already said...

Well, I don't remember seeing any *Robin Wasserman*?
She has a mystery/thriller series for YA/Children called Chasing Yesterday: Awakening, Betrayal, Truth ... These are fresh in my head, I just finished the series and they are still lying on my bedroom floor.
I like her syfy YA series: Skinned was Jaw Clenching Good, Crashed was Just as good, if not Better!!, Wired <--On my TBR list
Here are the covers:
Skinned (Skinned, #1) by Robin Wasserman Crashed (Skinned, #2) by Robin Wasserman Wired (Skinned, #3) by Robin Wasserman
Skinned was blurbed by *Scott Westerfeld* author of the Uglies Trilogy/Series:
Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld , Pretties (Uglies, #2) by Scott Westerfeld , Specials (Uglies, #3) by Scott Westerfeld trilogy + Extras (Uglies, #4) by Scott Westerfeld ; My Favs.
And the Midnighters Series: Touching Darkness,Blue Noon,The Secret Hour<--I love what happens to Jessica at the end ;) ;) OH and, of course, Leviathan--which I'm reading at the moment. It's good, so far.
