Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments Yeah, its something to read in between!
Thanks for the suggestion but the gay stuff just doesn't appeal. But there is so much out there of paranormals, I just keep trying new books and authors and I always find things I like.

Irene Hollimon | 10 comments I started off my vampire reading career with Charlaine Harris Love Her!
I read Patricia Briggs next Love Her!
I think after that I went LKH and became a die hard Anita fan - cannot get enough
I read the Merry Gentry series because I couldn't get enough Anita.
I tried but I couldn't really get into Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, Carrie Vaughn, Mary Janice Davidson

a couple that I thought were good but I haven't seen mentioned here are
Jeanne C. Stein
Jaye Wells
Richelle Mead

message 53: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments Thanks! I'll check those out!

Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments Thanks, I haven't tried Patricia Briggs yet but it looks interesting. Anne Rice and Kim Harrison somehow weren't for me, but keep letting me know if you come across other authors you liked cause I always like to try new stuff. I do read lots of books besides paranormal, in romance some historical, some contemporary. I also read a lot of mysteries, a few thrillers and cozy mysteries and even occasionally other stuff that's completely different, like the Harry Potter series or true stories about animals. I won't read any Oprah picks cause they are just too depressing. I especially like romances with humor. ( Sally Mackenzie's series, THE Naked Duke, The Naked Baron etc cause of the humor)
Thanks for your suggestions!

Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments Thanks! I already put a few from the earlier authors you mentioned on my to try list ( Richelle Mead, Jeanne Stein and Jaye Wells. I'll take a look at Briggs too.
Cool that you like lots of different stuff as well. Nice to know there are other people that actually like to read all kinds of books! ( I have a friend who will ONLY read crime novels, I read a few once in awhile but its hard to recommend much to him).
There are a several mysteries I've read with culinary themes, don't know if you would like them but I can dig around and find the names of those if you want??
Let me know.

all great choices, I didn't see any Emma Holly in there, she writes a fabulous "upyr" series, and her fairies are pretty hot too! Also, Octavia Butler, Tanarive Due, Susan Squires, Susan Sizemore. *sigh* so many books, so little time

message 57: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments Wow! So many books and not enough time!!! I can agree with that!!I've read Squires, Sizemore,Holly liked those and I'll try the others.

Mysteries with culinary themes: Joanne Fluke( main character is the owner of a bakery, light mysteries, cute), Diane Mott Davidson ( mysteries set in Colorado where the character ownes a catering service)
Both of these books have recipes. Peter King has a gourmet detective mystery series, these are a little slower but I love hearing about the travel and food anyway.
GA Mckevett, funny mystery series with food names, everyone is always eating or fixing something to eat, interesting characters.
Also, Miranda Bliss has a maybe 4 books set in a restaurant.

Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments No Problem! I'll let you know when I try some of these that you suggested, but give me a bit of time. And yes, of course I've had authors I just have to read everything they've done!( by the way, check Diedre Knight- Red Fire, Red Kiss, I just finished both and they are paranormal romance, you might like her too!)
Watch posts and I will get back to you might be a month or so till I get to them. I have lots I'm working on, just got the new Sookie Stackhouse, and of course it will be done very soon. And let me know too if you liked any of those..

Lisa Malmquist | 35 comments Just finished Dead And Gone last night! Excellent! And Eric is back in the picture...cool. I had thought Quinn was going to be but I think I like Eric better.
I didn't like that the fairies are sealed off from the humans but...we will see what happens, maybe that won't be forever? I will look into those also. Whew! Sounds like you read tons like I do.( each time you mention an author I check it out and add to my list, not to promote amazon or anything...just incase you didn't already have this...they have a wish list feature so you can put down what you want next..helps me to remember even if I don't get them all from Amazon)

Lisa I LOVE ERIC Too! I didn't like how quinn kinda was just dropped off after he made his first appearance in the book. That was a little weird. I just don't know if sookie feels the same way about eric that I do about him. Honestly I think that She will end up with sam even though I like Eric way better.

yaeh I agreed about dropping Quinn so quick, sortof felt like that was left hanging....still do somewhat, but who knows maybe he will at least get to talk to Sookie later?? Agree, not quite sure I trust Eric....Sam might not be a big Viking warrior but way more trustworthy!

Romeesa Sulkowski Has any read the The Immortal series by Alyson Noel? They're YA-PNR. The first is Evermore. It was really good so I'll bee getting the next ones. Similar to Twilight with the chaste-ness, but a quick easy read with interesting storyline and well written.

message 64: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (audiobookmel) Although Laurell is my favorite, there are several other great authors out there. Here is my list of some that you should look into (in no particular order):
Patricia Briggs Alpha and Omega series and Mercy Thompson series.(she also has a new graphic novel that is good for anyone who may be interesting)
Kelley Armstrong Women of the Otherworld series and Darkest Powers series
Jenna Black Morgan Kingsley series
Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress series
Stacia Kane Personal Demons & Demon Inside
Karen Chance Dorina Basarab series and Cassandra Palmer series
Christine Warren The Others series
Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games & Catching Fire
